West Brom have this evening announced the loan signing of Ben Foster from Birmingham. The stopper joins on a one-year deal with Boaz Myhill moving in the opposite direction.

Foster’s return to the Premier League is not only significant news for the Baggies camp, it’s also a huge development for Fantasy managers.

Foster proved a major Fantasy asset whilst at Birmingham last season, despite suffering relegation to the Championship. He kept 9 clean sheets but also topped the rankings for saves scoring 32 Save Points in 38 starts. That allowed him to emerge as a strong value option with an initial 4.5 price tag in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, earning him recognition in our Fantasy team of the season.

We now await Foster’s valuation throughout the games with a price tag of 4.5-5.0 expected in the FPL. That would see Foster earn plenty of initial squad investment – there’s little doubt that he will have plenty of opportunity to fetch a strong Save Point total at the Hawthorns. However we should also consider that the Baggies kept just 2 clean sheets last term – the lowest in the league.

The shrewd Fantasy manager will note that Foster works superbly in tandem with Villa’s Shay Given – another early favourite for the goalkeeping position in our squads. That particular pairing offer up a strong run of opponents and fixtues (ful BLA WOL nor NEW FUL WIG WOL WBA LIV NOR BOL swa qpr WIG bla) right up until Gameweek 17. That’s by no means the only combination available however – Foster’s arrival back in the Premier League will now cause many of us to reconsider our options between the sticks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Agree all about strikers max c.s. imo 14 and working down from that,I think theres a potential 4+ strikers can score 20+ goals jus need to be on them.

Not sure. I expect defenders on winning teams to get more baps this year. Still, picking the players on penalty duties is a sound approach.

There's nothing like a solid back 3 or 4 to keep your team points ticking over though. It looks a little light to me and you'll be relying on regular goals to score points.

I reckon being on penalties holds way too much weight with some on here. It's impossible to predict if or when a team will get a pen and a team can easily go months without getting one.
It's a nice bonus but shouldn't be a deciding factor in getting a player and is not as important/appealing as someone on free kicks & corners imo.

Use that 1.5m to get rid of Tiote for an attacking midfielder... maybe Sinclair... he's on pens and rotates perfectly with Taarabt...

Also consider downgrading Begovic to someone like Ruddy, and upgrade Luiz to a certain starter like A.Cole...

Pretty decent team though... and Benayoun is a punt that might pay off for you...

One of the better sides I've seen, but you're paying a premium for last year's star performers. Still, you can move to pick up the bargains as they present themselves so I can understand that approach.

Who's your alternative to Suarez if he's rested? (I'm looking at Rooney + Gervinho at the moment myself.)

Perhaps swap both RVP and Suarez for Bent and Augero. Villa have some good opening fixtures, and bent always seems to score no matter who he plays for. You would fancy Augero on his home debut (if he plays) against Swansea. Decisions, Decisions....

iv picked my midfield thinking they will score goals or get assists. my strikers are for scoring goals. at the end of last season i ended up with the best 3 strikers in the game so why not go out all guns blazing. obviously id like more in midfield but i am quite happy with what iv got. guna play the 3 strikers 3 defenders n nzogbia tarrabt n sincair for most of opening games.

True but Arsenal fullbacks aren't that good for assists either in the last couple of years. They don't cross the ball with no one to aim at anyway. Vermaelen would be the only one I would look at for his goals but at 7mil?

To be fair, Arsenal had only two less clean sheets than both Chelsea and Man Utd last season. Given that the average price of their defenders is lower, I don't see it as a bad move per sé.

After looking at the two games, i hate to say it but overall Sky Sports looks more impressive than FPL, not a big fan of the new layout..

With prizes such as a 50' LED TV for the weekly winner and an iphone4/ipad for monthly winner i reckon it should be looked at more often around these parts..

Hi Viper still prefer FPL myself out of all the FF games. I know what your saying about the prizes which are a bit stingy considering all the money the premier league make each year from fans.

Guys, how much game time has benayoun had preseason? I hear he played well but did he figure highly in AVB's strategy/tactics?

Keep an eye on Chelsea transfers, if there is no signing that you would consider a 'playmaker' then you can be pretty sure Benayoun will start a lot of games.

Baines stepped up to take both and cooly dispatched both of them, but he will step aside for Arteta on the Spaniard's return.

"Mikel will rightfully assume that responsibility when he comes back into the side. "He`s been the main penalty taker at the club for a while and it`s something he`s very good at.

"I`ll continue to back him up and when he`s not there I`ll willingly step up. Baines told the Echo.

    BYE BAINES

He's basically a very attacking winger that gets cs points. More crosses than any winger in the league and one of the best headers in the world on the end of them.
Penalties are a complete lottery if or when a team will get one and just a nice bonus imo. He's still the biggest attacking threat of any defender in the game and kind fixtures should bring some clean sheets too. I'll stick with him.

this article isn't up to date
Arteta hasn't missed a penalty since 2006, scoring 12 of his 14 efforts for Everton.
there were further developments and quotes after then once arteta missed about a week or so later

It would make the Baines decision harder if it was confirmed that Arteta was out for the first few games...

I think it would go to arteta to improve his confidence. He's been off the boil last season and moyes would be trying anything to get him back to his best.

Downgrade Robinson to a 4. If Jose Enrique moves, then Simpson, if not, QPR have some defenders at 4.0 and decent fixtures. Then use the 0.5 to upgrade one of Sinclair or Grahem. You don't want two swansea players yet.

You're right its a good team save the defense. I reckon you're one good defender short. The mid and fwd line may make up for it though if someone explodes.

you know it will drive you mad. i don't think it'll deliver. i think the best policy, for the rotation prone, is one chelsea, one city and 3 rotatables

Problem is, i think both Terry & Cole are overpriced. I would love Ivanovic as i think he's a threat from set play and he can cross the ball but rotation is a worry.

Assuming Tevez leaves, Balotelli is busy playing fart games with a Recaro bucket seat for most matches (when not banned), and Barry and Millner are also-rans for game time; who is most likely to be on pens. for City?
