West Brom have this evening announced the loan signing of Ben Foster from Birmingham. The stopper joins on a one-year deal with Boaz Myhill moving in the opposite direction.

Foster’s return to the Premier League is not only significant news for the Baggies camp, it’s also a huge development for Fantasy managers.

Foster proved a major Fantasy asset whilst at Birmingham last season, despite suffering relegation to the Championship. He kept 9 clean sheets but also topped the rankings for saves scoring 32 Save Points in 38 starts. That allowed him to emerge as a strong value option with an initial 4.5 price tag in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, earning him recognition in our Fantasy team of the season.

We now await Foster’s valuation throughout the games with a price tag of 4.5-5.0 expected in the FPL. That would see Foster earn plenty of initial squad investment – there’s little doubt that he will have plenty of opportunity to fetch a strong Save Point total at the Hawthorns. However we should also consider that the Baggies kept just 2 clean sheets last term – the lowest in the league.

The shrewd Fantasy manager will note that Foster works superbly in tandem with Villa’s Shay Given – another early favourite for the goalkeeping position in our squads. That particular pairing offer up a strong run of opponents and fixtues (ful BLA WOL nor NEW FUL WIG WOL WBA LIV NOR BOL swa qpr WIG bla) right up until Gameweek 17. That’s by no means the only combination available however – Foster’s arrival back in the Premier League will now cause many of us to reconsider our options between the sticks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Baines - Yay or nay?

I can't make my mind up. 8pts is a lot, but if he's in the same form as last season he can be an extra midfielder with clean sheets.

Then again, downgrading is very tempting.

    Evening gents. Here goes my (first) RMT. I'm basically looking at your thoughts about doubling up on Villa/QPR defence until the first wildcard....here goes ;

    Given/ Kenny
    ACole/ Kompany/ Collins/ Orr/ Simpson
    Sinclair/ Lampard/ Sessegnon/ Moses/ Duff
    Bent/ Carroll/ Zamora

you can do more with that 5.5 than Collins. there are lots of good defensive options for that price.

the front line is uninspiring but should deliver fairly consistently

sinclair and moses aren't certain to perform. is duff? is lampard going to be an attacking threat?

actually i'd find someone who rotates well with simpson (a sunderland defender) - then we'd have the same defense 😉 - and invest the extra money in the midfield.

        Thanks for the reply.

Collins is the top rated Villa defender in the members points projections, and like I said I'm considering strongly doubling up on Villa/Qpr Defs.

Agree with you on the front 3.

Sinclair and Moses are punts I know but every1 has a couple of punts in Midfield at the start. Duff could do well with Fulhams start and I think Jol will rest him in the Europacrap league due to his age and injury history.

Lampard, you are right, is prob the biggest question

Risky doubling up on QPR and Villa at the back I dont see QQPR getting many cleanies. I would maybe have Taarabt instead of Duff since youve got Zamora already. Or maybe try and get Rooney or RVP up front.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe just maybe I can capitalize on QPR's early season "buzz" that's my thinking anyway. They defended well last year.

Don't fancy RVP or Rooney until their fixtures ease up and I would have the money invested up front to a swap if form came into play

I reckon you would be better off taking advantage of the SUN/NEW rotation... avoid doubling up on Villa and use your QPR coverage to good effect cos it works well when those two have tough fixtures...

I posted something earlier along those lines, maybe you can make some sense of it...

Yep 3 at the back with Komapny and ACole every week with the gk/def from the two rotating teams if that makes sense! (in your case New/Sun)

Why is Kompany such a hot prospect? And Pennant I may reconsider, Benayoun will be starting unless we sign Pastore or someone of that ilk, AVB's system means a player like Yossi is essential and hes the only one we have, Lampard looks set to be playing a deeper role. Yeah the defence is weakest but you cant have everything. Cheers.

This season's Boselli. Wigan player scores a few goals pre-season with a few easy on paper fixtures to begin. Wigan are useless and will probably end up winning one of the matches at most, and it's unlikely Moses will do much at all.

It's Moses or dobbie for my cheapest attacking slot. Dobbie's got better points potential imo but is more of a rotation risk.

What is attracting you to those weeks for the WC. Personally I think of it as something to use in a time of crisis (and who knows when that's going to come) or a time of opportunity (dgws). This year I hope to hold off for as long as possible. But I'm intrigued about how and why you're considering such a thing already!?

yeah it is a little random 😆 - They're just two of the international breaks so I thought they could be good times.

Think it would be handy to plan in advance when to wildcard, so you can get the players with decent fixtures from now to then in.

The second wildcard makes things alot easier...too easy maybe?

I like Sessegnon personally. He's looked good, and he has form from last season as well as pre-season to back up his claims.

Bruce is also building the team around him, and to be honest, it's probably the best use of the players at his disposal.

Brown is a bit of a risk, but Sunderland defense rotates well with Newcastle, and Bramble is injured/not as good?

Dyer stays. I need a 4.5 bench sitter. If someone else comes up who's scoring better/rising in price, I'll hop aboard.

Would you not prefer Roney to RVP early on ? Would you get Aguero if Tevez is still there, I think Suarez could be a better bet early on .

        Yep all possibilities.

        Suarez + Silva or Aguero + N'Zogbia.

I prefer RVP to Rooney actually, although I seem to be in the minority.

I'd definately go with number two of those options.

Suarez won't play first two weeks and will see a nice price drop which will make it easy to bring him in when we've had enough time to asses who we want to sell. Silva on the other hand feels like another Modric type player in FPL terms, always assisting the assister.

I'm definately with you in terms of RVP though, Rooney will be deeper lying, wheras RVP is pretty much the one 'must have' for me this season. Everything Arsenal do good will involve him, and he'll be a bargain at 12 if he stays fit I believe.

Aguero is a slight risk, but I can see him doing very well and hitting the ground running. Can't see Tevez ever starting a game for City again, so I'm not too worried by that. Perhaps worth waiting on that decision. If Aguero looks off the pace in the Community sheild, and there are noises that Suarez will start the season, it may be worth switching back.

N'zogbia is a much more direct, goal grabbing, player than Silva, but more importantly those fixtures just can't be ignored.

Of course Aguero is a risk, but a player of his quality if hard to ignore.

If Tevez leaves and Kun plays well in the community shield, I'll have no hesitation sticking him in from the start. (Wish he was cheaper though :/)

I logged on today and immediately placed him in, I can see him setting the league on fire right from the off. Genuinely happy with my front 3 now, RVP, Aguero and Odem.

The price is a bit of a pain, at 10.5 would have had pretty much my ideal team, but a player of his class 11 is totally fair. Had to downgrade Kenny to Ruddy in the end which I'm not too fond of, but couldn't see anywhere else I wanted to downsize.

                    Odemwingie huh?

He's on penalties which is nice, but I doubt he'll hit the same form as last season. 7.5 is a bit steep too, and his fixtures aren't great.

Prefer Zamora, but hey, he's FFS standard, so if you want to take a riskier pick, by all means.

He's a class player and Hodgson will build around him. He scores lots of goals, and when he doesn't score he almost always gets an assist or two, most of their goals involve him. Reckon he'll be a BP whore this year. Penalties is a great bonus too.

The number of times people expected him to do less than he did week after week with people benching him was ridiculous. Can see him continuing to score well against the odds this year. Don't see him suddenly losing the point scoring ability, and I think he's a player who defenders can't really cope with because they aren't quite sure how to defend against him.

As for Zamora, I've never really liked him as a fantasy prospect. Not really sure why, just don't feel the Zamora love, he seems like a lesser version of Bent to me, with slightly less consistent goal returns.

Yes, but Arsenal's games aren't much worse.

Away at Newcastle then home against Liverpool (who haven't been so good defensively lately).

I also think RVP is a better fantasy prospect than Rooney. In fact, he's close to the ultimate fantasy prospect. A lone channel of attack for a title challenging side. Takes set pieces (all of them), and is a bonus magnet.

Arguably he's going to end up nearly as prolific and must have as Ronaldo did in his incredible season. Almost guarenteed at least a goal a game in the second half of last season, when at times Arsenal were poor.

If Arsenal really click this year and he stays, he could hit 200, and I'd be surprised if he didn't.

West Brom away won't be a high scoring game Hodgson will no doubt have done a lot of work on that defense this summer.

Tottenham and Arsenal are hardly easy games, and Rooney will probably get a goal or two, but can't see him doing anything spectacular, and to be honest he is more likely to drop even deeper for these games, leaving goals for players like Nani, Hernandez etc.

Hmm.. They are all good points about Rooneys deeper role, I just cant see United not notching a few against West Brom with Rooney being at the heart of things, and Spurs and Arsenal defence dont exactly strike fear into opponents.

As for RVP I know he is the focal point of their attack, but Newcastle are so unpredictable I wouldnt feel conmfortable captaining him against them. The 0-0 against Man U last season sticks in my mind. Then Arsenal have Liverpool and United after that..

Not sure Luiz is worth the risk. Burnt me badly at the end of last season, only had two starters on the last day and could easily be out of the team which will only cause selection and transfer headaches.

My assesment is he is not really a great defender, was suspect in quite a few games for Chelsea last year, and if he does get the nod to begin with, I can see Alex taking the position within a few weeks once he gets shown up by Odemwinge and Hernandez etc big time again. Personally I see his career ending up as a DM since he seems to be more comfortable higher up the pitch.

Malouda + Riise? I'd very much like Riise in my team but don't want too much value in defense, but I still reckon he'll score well.

Wouldn't touch Riise. Too expensive, old, playing for an attacking Fulham side who won't keep cleanies. His goalscoring record isn't even that great.

I like Luiz for now, although I agree with the fact he's not great defensively. Hopefully, we'll know more as the season's about to start.

An attacking team surely plays into his potential for goals, assists BPs, which is worth the extra million from Hughes who you have gone with already (as they get the same CS points).

But regardless of who you go for I'd definately go for the Malouda + Second value defender over the Lampard Hughes route. If Luiz does get the nod though he could be a great option with the goals he will surely get. Not a risk for me though.

Used to score plenty for Liverpool too.
Don't think he's worth 6 but he can certainly score goals. Fulham won't all of a sudden forget how to defend under jol either. They won't be far off last season's defensive record imo.

yup im 90% sure taarabt and sinclair will outscore adam total last year as they are the one man team that take all setpieces and both play virtually as strikers compared to adam as midfielder
taarabt esp but having watched a lot of championship last year can say both were involved in around 50% of team goals so even if they only score 30 goals that means there involved in 15 goals which is a great return for that money

lol sorry misread thought you said who should you downgrade nzogbia for not one of those 3 for nzogbia.

I would say out of those 3 downgrade downing.

Tottenham clean sheets in the seasons Jol was there:

    04/05 - 13 (6th highest)
    05/06 - 13 (6th highest again)
    06/07 - 6 (Lowest in the league)

Absolutely nothing. I wouldnt touch Hangeland and maybe Riise, but I think Hughes is good value at 5.

    http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Fulham-Bolton-join-Stoke-in-pursuit-Cameron-Jerome-Birmingham-striker-article778180.html

Not a chance I can see that happening. Jol already has selection problems with AJ's form and Jerome would not fit into his expected style of play. Oh and also he's shit.

    Given, Ruddy

    A.Cole, Kompany, Alcaraz, Hughes, (Simpson)
    VDV, Silva, Moses, (Taraabt, Sinclair)rotation
    Suarez, Aguero, Rodallega

moses will flop but other than that good midfield although i think silva doesnt get the points that his play shows i.e always starts move but maybe not get the assist

      good defence and keepers
only worry is that no rooney or rvp
maybe downgrade silva to get one of those two

Malouda will most likely get rotated, especially against the easier teams, and VDV's early fixtures aren't so flash. Also, we don't know how quickly Aguero is going to settle into the team.

I'm leaning that way at the moment. Gives me more options.

I can get any 12.0 striker with my money in the bank for GW 2, I can get Malouda in for VdV, the only attacking player I can't get in one transfer is Lampard, but the chances are, I won't want him anyway, and even if he scores 4 in the opening weekend, everyone else will also struggle to fit him in, so he shouldn't rocket in price too badly.
