West Brom have this evening announced the loan signing of Ben Foster from Birmingham. The stopper joins on a one-year deal with Boaz Myhill moving in the opposite direction.

Foster’s return to the Premier League is not only significant news for the Baggies camp, it’s also a huge development for Fantasy managers.

Foster proved a major Fantasy asset whilst at Birmingham last season, despite suffering relegation to the Championship. He kept 9 clean sheets but also topped the rankings for saves scoring 32 Save Points in 38 starts. That allowed him to emerge as a strong value option with an initial 4.5 price tag in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, earning him recognition in our Fantasy team of the season.

We now await Foster’s valuation throughout the games with a price tag of 4.5-5.0 expected in the FPL. That would see Foster earn plenty of initial squad investment – there’s little doubt that he will have plenty of opportunity to fetch a strong Save Point total at the Hawthorns. However we should also consider that the Baggies kept just 2 clean sheets last term – the lowest in the league.

The shrewd Fantasy manager will note that Foster works superbly in tandem with Villa’s Shay Given – another early favourite for the goalkeeping position in our squads. That particular pairing offer up a strong run of opponents and fixtues (ful BLA WOL nor NEW FUL WIG WOL WBA LIV NOR BOL swa qpr WIG bla) right up until Gameweek 17. That’s by no means the only combination available however – Foster’s arrival back in the Premier League will now cause many of us to reconsider our options between the sticks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Dunne, Samba, Clichy, Odemwingie, Hoolahan.

Improvements to be made there for sure.

Downgrade Dunne, Clichy, Hoolahan, Samba, and get a good striker in place of Odem.

Probably better to pick one of hoolahan or holt, give you more options to play the fixtures.
Maybe hoolahan & graham or Moses & holt. Either option will save you 0.5

    Given - Ruddy
    Kompany - Cashley - Staylor - Bramble - Orr
    N'Zog - VDV - Sess - Tchoyi - Surman
    Aguero - RVP - Odem

I'm feeling fairly happy on Odem, think WBA will have a good season, and he'll be central to it all. He's class.

Tchoyi is a WBA mid who looks like he's going to be played in an advance role. Surman is a Norwich player for 4.5 who should nail down the LM slot and be solid.

      I'm on it!

      You've got a good team...

Stephen Taylor's an interesting choice, but still pretty solid.

Don't like Tchoyi. You must be a baggies fan to choose both Odem and Tchoyi. Get Sinclair or Barton instead.

Odemwingie isn't a good choice simply because of fixtures and price. You can get Zamora or Ba for less who have more potential.

You've got to separate your team allegiance from FPL. I'm a Rovers fan (yeah it's rough...) but I've come to accept we're just hopeless from a fantasy standpoint this season, so I'm not picking them.

Gone for Taylor just for his goal scoring threat, don't fancy Newcastle to keep many clean sheets, but he rotates with Bramble and should score a good few goals.

I'm not a Baggies fan actually. I'm a Charlton Athletic man, so it's not great for me either. I've only gone for them because I can see them having a really strong season. Tchoyi looks like a great potential OOP 5.5 mid, and there isn't much else value for money in that price range. I've had Sinclair in, but budget made me downgrade him.

Odemwinge has great fixtures after the first two games, and I'd bet on him getting one against either Chelsea or United. 7.5 is a good price for a player who will be involved in most good stuff they do and also get's a lot of assists. Really don't fancy Zamora just never felt the love for him. And you won't catch me getting in an attacking Newcastle player, they're for the drop under the mug that is Pardew.

Personally I see Odem carrying on his form, and he always seems to perform best when people doubt him in terms of FPL. Tchoyi is a total punt, but I'm happy to take it at that value. He can easily be changed up for any cheap form player such as Hoolahan is required.

You've made a decent case. But for safety's sake, I'd look to diversify, just in case you're wrong. Having 2 attacking players from West Brom, you tell me if you feel good about that especially with the top 2 in the opening weeks?

Also, price rises. You want people who will get off to a flyer, and that's just not going to be the case for West Brom, surely.

Hmm you make a very good point too. Might go and swap out Tchoyi and Surman for Hoolahan and Dyer, that way I can feel a bit more sure about all my players starting, Surman is a slight risk I feel, and I wouldn't want two Norwich mids.

I'm sticking with Odem. Last season he missed a pen at Hawthorns vs United and scored at the bridge, so he has potential for point scoring in those games. But Tchoyi is maybe better to wait and see.

Reckon a mid of VDV - N'Zog - Sess - Hoolahan - Dyer makes more sense?

Alright cant resist the urge to jump in. I like this team:

Given-Moreira (or whoever is starting for Swansea)
    Kompany-Luiz-O-Shea-Baines-Simpson
    Silva-VDV-NZogbia-Sinclair-Moses
    Rooney-Rodallega-Graham

Yes, I know ManU has a tough early schedule but I still think Rooney is going to score. He is in great form. Rodallega to Odemwingie or Zamora when the fixtures turn against Wigan. Too many Swansea players for sure, i might switch out Graham for another (or perhaps Sinclair for O'Hara). Basically I want to see who is the penalty taker for Swansea and will switch out the other. But this is a pretty good squad I think.

      I like that idea too.

      A midfield of:

Sessegnon, N'Zogbia, Taarabt, Sinclair, Moses is better than a few other midfields I've seen around which are far more expensive.

Then you have funds up top to load up.

Yep certainly a punt. No more so than taraabt though imo and at his price its easier to just bench him if its not working out rather than having to waste a trade replacing him.
No rotation risks and no more than 2 unproven attackers is my starting team mantra this season. One of them will be hoolahan or holt.
Another plus is norwich should be a lot less cautious than Qpr or swansea. Plenty of goals at both ends imo.

He scored poorly bc he didnt get no game time bc of Ndog. The games i watched when he was playing he looked deadly. Now zog has gone Moses is their go to guy, their creator which Ngozbia did so well. I have no doubt he will fill the gap quite well

His points total last season is irrelevant as he wasn't playing regularly. His potential is pretty good for 5.0 and it enables people to have the likes of rooney, rvp etc.

would like to get foster in instead of ruddy, would prefer better midfield cover than ferguson..waiting on the asia cup and community shield to tell me more ie. rafael, chelsea starters.think spreading my risk with downing, bent is better than going for say n'zogbia/bent or carroll/downing.have a feeling fulham will hit the ground running and that aguero will be a serious gamechanger for the fpl.whos better vice captain, downing or vdv?

      Nasri?
Is that based on fab leaving and him staying as the playmaker? Either way I'd wait and see until gw4 for him.
Not sold on lampard personally especially he'll probably play deep and they'll sign a playmaker.
I'm avoiding taraabt till he proves himself in the prem though most on here are going with him from the start.

The truth of the matter is that your guess is as good as mine as to how deep Lampard will play. I reckon he'll still make the late runs into the box and pick up plenty of bonus points.

Having said that, I had him in my team until yesterday and then went with Malouda instead.

I really want to get VDV in my team and keep arguing he is fixture proof but Spurs opening 9 games are all tough and with so many other decent mid options I cannot make a case for keeping him at £10m. Which is annoying. Especially as he is a likely OOP again and on all set pieces. Got a feeling Spurs may struggle a bit this season unless they get some new faces in.

Wouldn't have Clichy and Kompany myself either. Roon is usually a slow starter too and with their early fixtures I am going to avoid. His overall stats last year are average. RVP is a lot safer bet.

worth a million to upgrade ranger to holt. Guaranteed starts, on pens and free kicks. id probably downgrade dunne to a 4.5 defender. im sure intent is to double up on villa because of fixtures but in the stretch of games i think you can find a couple clean sheets elsewhere and holt will make up the rest.

I like that team alot, maybe go Kompany over Clichy for a safer rotation risk and BP allocation but one of the best teams i've seen on here.
I'm debating whether i should take a punt on Sessegnon....

    My team:

    Given (De Vries)
    Luiz Baines Kompany (Orr, Simpson)
    Downing N'Zogbia Taarabt Dempsey Yaya
    Zamora Van Persie (Beattie)

Pretty happy with it overall, my only concern is Luiz and the roation risk with Alex, especially against Stoke in GW1 i think Alex's power may be required.

Any thoughts people on Zamora->Bent and downgrading Dempsey to a 5.5 player?

Horrible strike force. Dont like the midfield. In fact start again, sorry. Take a scroll through these pages and pick up on the general protocol being followed. Players like Nani, Adam, Berb are very expensive and not sure starters at this point.

Thanks very much and yes your comments are the general consensus. Because I'm very new I don't really know who's going to play vs who's going to sit and basically I was just going by the points ratings of the players as a start.

Already working on a new squad and loving the information. Thanks again.
