West Brom have this evening announced the loan signing of Ben Foster from Birmingham. The stopper joins on a one-year deal with Boaz Myhill moving in the opposite direction.

Foster’s return to the Premier League is not only significant news for the Baggies camp, it’s also a huge development for Fantasy managers.

Foster proved a major Fantasy asset whilst at Birmingham last season, despite suffering relegation to the Championship. He kept 9 clean sheets but also topped the rankings for saves scoring 32 Save Points in 38 starts. That allowed him to emerge as a strong value option with an initial 4.5 price tag in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, earning him recognition in our Fantasy team of the season.

We now await Foster’s valuation throughout the games with a price tag of 4.5-5.0 expected in the FPL. That would see Foster earn plenty of initial squad investment – there’s little doubt that he will have plenty of opportunity to fetch a strong Save Point total at the Hawthorns. However we should also consider that the Baggies kept just 2 clean sheets last term – the lowest in the league.

The shrewd Fantasy manager will note that Foster works superbly in tandem with Villa’s Shay Given – another early favourite for the goalkeeping position in our squads. That particular pairing offer up a strong run of opponents and fixtues (ful BLA WOL nor NEW FUL WIG WOL WBA LIV NOR BOL swa qpr WIG bla) right up until Gameweek 17. That’s by no means the only combination available however – Foster’s arrival back in the Premier League will now cause many of us to reconsider our options between the sticks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Q Do you know why most people use their wildcard by gameweek four?

A Because they start the season by picking 15 players that all have good fixtures. By gameweek four their fixtures all changed to bad , while all those they ignored suddenly have good fixtures

Normally people go with a few bandwagons on here for one. Also by game week four you will tend to have more of an idea of how players are settling in to the new season, especially the newly promoted ones. Plus people don't want to miss out on the price rises. Whether using your wild card then is right or wrong only time will tell.

I think playing the wild card early this year could be a huge mistake. We'll have 2 international breaks before gw8 and you always have injury issues stemming from those.

Is anyone else not convinced by N'Zog? He may be and out and out winger at Villa and not as pivotal as he was at Wigan. I am sure I will go with him but maybe Downing at only £1m more is the better value? Carrol could really profit from his service. Mind you, fixtures are on Villa's side. Not sure there is too much value in this post but I have typed it now.

          Hi Si

I am little on the fence with Zog & Bent despite Villas fixtures. Villa were poor last year, now weakend by losing young & downing (bents supply) plus Alex McMgr is shal we say... a little on the negative side.

I think Bent in particualr will profit less from Nzog, than either of the other 2 as he is more selfish !

Would prefer a Silva to zog day 1 if i can raise the £s....

I suppose it's fair enough, I would be a bit annoyed if someone came into my work and started on a higher wage for no good reason. Just because it's stupidly large amounts of money doesn't change the fact that other integral members of the squad could feel undervalued now.

I don't think it'll stop Kompany being an integral player in their starting XI, Tevez's constant moaning didn't change anything about his inclusion.

Brunt is not a fantasy prospect as he always ends up assisting the assist. Not a bad pick, but surely, they are better players out there.

Albrighton might be rotated. Bannan's looking good in pre-season.

Don't buy the Sinclair love. Think Swans might struggle this time. They've lost Pratley and their keeper, and have hardly improved their squad. It's worth a punt, but I am not convinced.

Sess looks the best of the lot.

    Classic Wenger quote - 🙂

"Business will be done sooner rather than later," Wenger said at tonight's news conference ahead of the Emirates Cup.

"At the moment you have two categories of movement, one from zero to 10 million, and one from 30 to 50 million.

"We are in between, and in between nothing happens at the moment, there has been very little movement.

"All the clubs who live from the money which football generates do not buy.

"The only clubs who buy at the moment in Europe are ones who buy with money which is not generated by our industry."

Wenger added: "There are two categories of club - those who travel with sweat and those who travel with petrol. We are those who travel with sweat."

He will be at times... The prob is when. Once Champ League starts and FA cup etc etc.... He will Obv rotate. I'm sure he, young, and Nani will play 30 games each but how many are PL games are anyones guess.

Not sold on Bramble and Moses. Sunderland have a lot of defenders. Moses did not play a lot last season. Could you downgrade either so that you have some money left in the pot?
Also you might want to bring in Malouda at gw 2 when you know the chelsea formation. Was thinking about Graham too as he was the top scorer in the championship, could be a good sub. What formation are you planning to use?

Bramble might become o shea(fitness depending) or Wilkinson. I like the look of Moses as having good potential this year. He was kept out by Nzog last year. I will prob play 3-5-2

Wilkinson & Briggs both regulars for Stoke and Fulham and at 4.0 are a real bargain. Rooney has a poor run of fixtures at start if season so may nit want to buy into him just yet. Zamora is inconsistent and if Defoe does go to Fulham then he may lose out a bit. With a fit Adam Johnson, Zamora may also suffer. I'd choose Odem ahead of Zamora. be wary of VDV, I have him but his 2-5th fixtures aren't great. maybe consider nasri or Ramsey as either of them will take over from Cesc as playmaker for the Gunners and could be a bit of a differential as FF managers look away from the Emirates due to the recent poor press they've had.

yes, both Full backs. Briggs is cheap because he wasn't around last year but he's played ever game for Fulham so far in pre-season and Europe qualifiers. Wilkinson is a snip too and has played pre-season.

Hmm, he's 32 now. I think the days of him dominating every game he plays in and his ability to play 30+ games a season and surge into the box time and again to bang the goals in is long gone. He'll still win a few crucial games for Liverpool this term and might star in 20 games or more but his fitness will prevent more appearances than this and with Kuyt, Henderson, Adam, Miereles, Downing, Spearing, Shelvey, Maxi & Lucs- Dalglish isn't short of cover. There's better options than Gerrard.

Disagree with your closing statement, a half fit Gerrard is still the best LFC midfielder by a country mile. Once fully fit he can easily dominate games. Plus now he has much better players who want to play for LFC around him. I would consider him once he has some games under his belt.

No not to start with as he is not fit but I great belief in him once he is fit. I've watched him for years at Anfield when he's constantly carried us because noone else could. Like the Ladbrokes article states he has a great influence on both the team and fans alike. I admit that he won't be the same player as he was when he was younger but the same could be said about Lampard at Chelsea. Both class players who have a big impact on their teams. Will be bringing Gerrard in mid to late September or early October once he is fit.

Yes, I agree about Lampard. I pondered putting him in but it's the same thing. We've been lucky in FF to have these players because each week they'd score or grab assists and it was a certain payback. Problem is now their prices are still high but the 'certain' return isn't there like it once was. Still, never write them off....

Would be great to turn the clock back to their youth when you could have both in your team. However, as you state the return is not there. Only one or the other for me in a FF team. I'm biased towards Gerrard but have a lot of time and respect for Lampard. Possible rotation of the two throughout the season maybe?

I wish players got points for pride! They should at it to the bonus point criteria! I like the lok of Kelly and Gibbs, both at 5.5 but not for the first few GWs. I think with the start that Villa, Chelsea and Man City have it's hard not to get on that bandwagon.

Gibbs? Where's he at? Local lads who play for their clubs with pride should get extra bonus points instead of the foreign wannabees only here for the money. Cheers for the tip on Gibbs, I wanted some Arsenal but not sure who? West Brom seem a different team under Hodgson, could be another Fulham, thats what he does best with smaller teams. As for Ruddy, Norwich defence is not the best, they let in a lot of goals last season but he's there regular keeper and cheap cover for Given but I think Foster would keep more clean sheets should I wish to rotate.

But at 11.0 million! Very hard to justify that outlay for a player who isn't ready for the beginning of the season, will have missed pre-season, is 32 and injury prone. Great player and probably one of the best to grace the league. magnificent performances. But in FF league terms, he's just not a wise buy,

I'm not saying start with him but wait until he is fully fit. There are lot of good players at Liverpool now who will ease the pressure on Gerrard. He can attack, defend even play in goal if needs must. Just a very influential figure at Anfield. Also he's only 31!

Yes, 31! But as the ESPN artile you posted jut now says:

"Compare this with 12 goals for Liverpool in 49 appearances in the 2009/10 season and 24 goals in 45 appearances in the 2008/09 season and you can see the Liverpool captain is in decline."

He only played 24 games last season.

"In decline", my arse! Just because he's 31 doesn't mean he's in decline. Look at Giggs, he's 37 and still playing and still one of Utd's greats, although I don't think that will happen next season, too much scandal and opposition fans will rip him to pieces over which member of his family he's having next.

Yes, but Giggs doesn't play every game. As a fan the Giggs', Gerrards, Lampards etc are great players but as an FF manager they can be a nightmare. Too good to leave out but when you put them in they might not start every game.

Not both Carroll and Suarez, both great players but then restricting myself to One team's attack. I know that Dalglish has changed things around at Anfield but we are still a long long way off dominating every game. It's one or the other for me with some goals coming from other clubs. Hoping Aguero settles in qucik and scores like Torres did when he first arrived on the scene. Also got Rooney as he has a good pre-season and hopefully there will not be any hooker scandals unlike last year.

🙂 The fans I've spoken/chatted to, seem to think that Hendo is his replacement. If true, at 6.5, he's a steal ...

I can't see Adam featuring much, this season - but that's just me.

Ah! The days of Adam at Blackpool. 5.0 million and grabbing oodles of points every week - if only we could have that back!

Sinclair at Swansea and Tarrbat at QPR could be the new Charlie Adams.

Tough call. I've got both and believe in them. Both top scorers for their clubs last season, both have a bit of premiership experience, both working under managers with experience of the premiership clubs albeit in differnt capacities.

ESPN seems like a more reliable source to me

If anything I see the injury rumour as a typical excuse for Gerrard to miss the international friendly with Holland just before the new season kicks off

Good, I hope he does miss the international friendly as they are a waste of time for eastablished players. friendlies should be where up and coming talent are given a chance.
