Newcastle United have this afternoon placed Joey Barton on the transfer list. Following the player’s criticism of the club on his twitter account yesterday, managing director Derek Llambias has met with owner Mike Ashley and the pair have subsequently moved quickly to address the matter. Barton is allowed to leave the club on a free transfer.

Barton was a proven Fantasy performer last season, with his set-piece delivery a key factor in the club’s successful season back in the Premier League. Despite his renowned reputation, Barton seems to have settled of late and his hint of unrest behind the scenes follow those of team mate Jose Enrique. With Kevin Nolan also leaving St James Park this summer, Alan Pardew looks set to lose another of his consistent performers. In terms of Newcastle set-piece takers, it’s worth noting that both Yohan Cabaye and Sylvain Marveaux have had their fair share already this pre-season and perhaps offers a pointer as to who Pardew will opt for in light of Barton’s departure.

At 28 years old, Barton still has plenty in his locker and Fantasy managers will be hoping for a mid-table move that guarantees starts. Priced at just 6.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Barton should still prove great value for money with his free-kicks and corners always reliable to garner points- he picked up 4 goals and 9 assists last season.

Barton had earlier in the day stated he will comment on the situation at Newcastle via his twitter stream at 4pm this afternoon….

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

It is has been proven that writing in upper case is harder for the brain to read than lower case. Have a bit of courtesy for all the people reading here 🙂

Also please bear in mind that you have a point of view, and not everyone will share it. Writing in caps will not change that.

Bit too steep for a gamble for me. I like to know what I am getting for that amout of cash. Guarenteed starts and high chances of goals are what I am looking for.

Torres at the moment is a maybe for both until he settles in and claims the number on striker spot - or doesn't.

You can get one of two fixes for your caps lock problem
        1) The elegant way.

        a) Open a text editor on your computer. Notepad will do.
        b) Key in, or copy and paste the following text:

        Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

        [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
        "Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,3a,00,00,00,00,00

        c) Save the file as “disable_caps_lock.reg” somewhere on your computer.
        d) Double click the new file in Windows Explorer.
        e) Click Yes on the pop-up message box
        f) Your fellow FFS contributors will love you for ever.

2)The old fashioned way: procreate elsewhere.

Clichy is a marquee signing for Abu Dhabi group, pinching another player from the old 'big four'. Don't you think he will be solid first choice? I do. Plus the attacking potential is vastly superior, no?

I'd argue Kolarov's attacking potential is superior to Clichy's and he isn't half bad at defending either.

City buying Clichy is good because they're in the champions league now, so will need a bigger squad.

Clichy will rotate with Kolarov and Zabaleta, whereas Kompany is nailed on, due to being their captain.

Agreed - decision-maker for me is the captaincy/likelihood of not being rotated. A 6.0 defender who doesn't play turns into a 4.0 def right quick.

CL teams 'need' to rotate as the games come fast and furious. Kolarov will compete, as might Zabs.

I can't, actually I don't know what all the over-analyzation is for. They are basically going to be getting the same points. IMHO, rarely will either get healthy BPs. Clichy will take his 15+ hideous strikes at goal along with a handful of useless crosses. Kompany will be rock in the middle and get absolutely no credit for it...there! So the only way i see Kompany getting more points is if he puts on a show in central defense. Can't see that more thahn on one or two occasions.

    RMT please:

    Given / Kenny

    Baines / Kompany / Figueroa / (Simpson) / (Bramble)

    Taarabt / Cabaye / Moses / Silva (C) / Downing (V)

    Rooney / Bent / (Graham)

with 1m to spend to potentially transfer Silva -> Malouda in GW2.

My thoughts about the team are that it will be 3-5-2 most of the time so that's why I've gone with Graham up top. My concerns are the midfield however where I had Barton but have now gone with Cabaye. Can put Sinclair in instead but have Graham up top and don't wanna double up. As for the defence, Figueroa is one I'd like to switch out but nobody looks particularly seems decent for GW1 at a low cost. (Bramble can be played in GW2, Simpson in GW3)

    Any thoughts please?

Simpson and Bramble must go from all teams!!! Wasted space for such a decent team...(outside of Downing...not a fan...at all). You had the nerve to name Downing as your vice captain. He's the new Joe Cole/Steven Ireland. It's a stretch, but Bramble may actually come out with a clean sheet...but I doubt it. Same with Simpson, I don't have faith that they can take care of business against QPR. I feel a lot better about Wigan's chances defensively over Sunderland and Newcastle's given their already sketchy preaseason. Sunderland has like 1 clean sheet in six matches...we're talking Arminia Bielefeld and god know's what NY team they played. As for Newcastle, when Joey Barton is sabotaging his place on a team...and you concede against Orlando City (wtf...?) and 3 against Leeds...

Do I need to tell you that Cattermole and Bramble WILL piss in your cornflakes...

Personally I'm thinking of playing five in the back with:

      Rafael 5.5
      Samba 5.5
      Alcaraz 4.5
      Figueroa 4.5
      Hangeland 6.5

think my reply to you earlier got lost on previous page,,, let me repeat:

serious question mate – is this your first season? It’s just i’ve noticed you say you don’t need good subs because they won’t play…

Let me offer you some advice… Fantasy Football is a squad game

We all started off thinking we could just put 4 cheap subs on the bench and get maximum quality on the pitch but it doesn’t work like that… as the season progresses your subs become essential.

Get a good squad of 15 players – 5-6 of them being players you’d happily start/ bench according to fixtures and who (if benched) should come in for an injured/ rested player and at least play 90 mins and have a chance of grabbing some points

I can see him only breaking in at CB, screw all the 'SAF hailing his versatility', the kid looks a bt slow.

Evans: hot urine-can't see him breaking in.
              Vidic
              Evra: Locked in
Jones: weak teams pre/post champions league matches
              Ferdinand: strong EPL fixtures
Smalling: 36+ minutes spelling Ferdinand, FA Cup, weaker Championsleague opponents.
Rafael: RB, a good bet to play most days, but still will be spelled by brother and possibly Jones.
Fabio: RB heavily rotated, will also play a lot of the [hybrid advanced attacking defensive mid] (see Park) (A good 5er to have on the bench).

Raf and Fabs might tag-team RB - as Rio and Smalling will CB.

anyone thinking of starting the season with Monk as a cheap defender? Looks like hes making a bid to be ready by week 1, wouldnt need him until week 2. Team captain, should be a dependable cheap rotation option.
im sure hed be owned over many other 4.0 options already if it werent for the injury but I think it could be clever to have him now, because transfers are so valuble, one doesnt want to have to spend one on a 4.0 player like monk.

our 1st choice defense should be

      Westwood/Mignolet
      O'Shea,Brown,Richardson
with Turner,Bardsley & Bramble for the other spot.
Unless Richardson gets shifted to Left Mid(hope not)!

Richardson has been playing LB all pre season & was playing there until he got injured last year & Bruce wanted him as his LB originally.

O'Shea is injured atm & Brown has been playing Centre Half. Its hard to know at this stage who Bruce favours at RB atm.

For old times sake maybe, you know he will get a steady amount of points from saves. I've been unsure about Given but his game against Chelsea saw him make about 20 saves, so he's probably as good a choice if Foster is the same price.

Silva's the popular choice, but Cahill is a proven PL goalscorer. The new BP rules are supposed to favour goals scored (favouring Cahill), but also games won (favouring Silva).

Couple of questions/observations I'd like to get some feedback on (if possible).

    1. Leighton Baines - Here's my observation/question: Is he worth it? I did a bit of analysis on his goals and assists last year and in the first 21 games he had 2 goals and 6 assists. In the next 13 games he had 2 goals and 5 assists. My concern? The fact that period of time corresponded exactly with the loss of Tim Cahill. I just worry that his value has been overestimated because of the fact that the major scoring threat on the team was gone...

    2. Micah Richards - Could he be a better pick-up than Kompany? Now I'm not totally up on the rotation at the back for City, but it seems like Richards represents a better attacking option and less rotation risk than some of the other backs. Just as food for thought, Kompany played almost every minutes last year and had one assist. Period. Richards played 2000 less minutes and had a goal and an assist. If he is dialed in at the back, doesn't it seem like Richards offers a better reward than Kompany?

    Just wondering...

It would seem that Cahill would help Baines (and there are statistics that show how effective the combo has been), but it also seems from the data that Baines is (or was) more effective, efficient, and productive without him playing.

The problem with the Arteta argument is that Arteta started and played in every game over that stretch of 13 games while Cahill either was at the Asian Games, injured, or only made a brief cameo. If Arteta does have an effect, it seems to be a positive one, and if he indeed is moving to Villareal it would seem that Baines's value only suffers more...

Well lets look at the gameweeks when Arteta didn't play and Cahill did:

              GW9: Baines goal 8 pts
              GW16: 3 points
GW17: Clean sheet and 3 bonus 9 pts
              GW18: Goal 8 pts
              GW30: 1 assist, 3 bonus 8 pts

Ok. Here's a few (sorry, I don't have the GWs, just using ESPN and don't know about bonus):

                5/1 - 1 assist
                5/2 - 2 assists (Cahill on late)
                5/3 - 1 assist
                2/4 - 1 goal
                16/4 - 1 goal + CS

Again, without the bonus it's hard but it seems pretty equivalent at least...

Well you have picked games out there where Baines has done well rather than looking at an average over all the games. I don't think Arteta played in those last two games on 2nd April and the 16th April.

      1) From my analysis the presence of Arteta has more of an impact on Baines' points than Cahill.
He scored 6.5 points per game with Arteta missing (although this is a small sample) and 3.5 ppg with Arteta present.

      2) Certainly a better attacking option but as you say not as reliable as Kompany.
