The chase is on for Joey Barton’s signature. Owen Coyle tries out a new formation as Darren Pratley and Chris Eagles impress again. Swansea look set to grab another winger. Ben Foster comes in at 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). Stewart Downing crosses, Andy Carroll scores- that’s a phrase you may be hearing plenty of next season. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

The race is on to snap up Joey Barton following yesterday’s extraordinary events at Newcastle. Released on a free transfer despite having a year of his contract remaining, Barton will have no shortage of suitors as he looks around for a new club this summer. The player’s agent, Willie McKay, has already had plenty of enquiries:

We have been inundated with interest. We’re talking to top Premier League clubs and European clubs. One is very, very interested. I’ve got nothing against Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias. They can do what they want but I think it’s suicide what they’ve done.

Names such as Tottenham and Everton have been suggested as most likely and providing Barton can join a club where regular starts are a given, he’s still very much a viable Fantasy prospect, priced at 6.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Talking of free transfers, Wigan have signed up ex Wolves man David Jones. The midfielder was released by Big Mick McCarthy’s side in the summer and has been training with the Latics over the last few days. Roberto Martinez has said:

‘David is a talented player. He is technically gifted and tactically clever.’

Bolton’s friendly game at Hereford last night saw Owen Coyle try out a new formation which may intrigue Fantasy managers. Coyle went with a 4-2-3-1 shape, playing Chris Eagles and Martin Petrov on the flanks, with Mark Davies behind lone forward Kevin Davies. The second half saw Darren Pratley replace Mark Davies and both he and Eagles scored in the game, as the visitors coasted 3-0. Bolton lost eleven of their last twelve away games in 2010/11 and a change in shape, particularly for games on the road, may prove to be wise by Coyle.

Liverpool came back from 2-0 down Valerenga last night to eventually draw 3-3. Stewart Downing supplied the cross for Andy Carroll to fire home from close range and a Daniel Agger brace reminded Fantay managers of his scoring capabilities. Kenny Dalglish’s side were poor in the first-half but bossed the second forty-five and in the end, threw away a lead in injury time. The Reds boss said after the game:

“It was obviously more pleasing in the second half, we were closing down higher up the pitch. In the first half we stood off. They wanted time to play and we gave them time to play. The important thing is we’ve got to be better when we don’t have the ball – but the boys aren’t shy of hard work. There’s an educated week’s training ahead.”

Swansea have agreed a deal with Newcastle to sign Wayne Routledge. The winger will undergo a medical today and providing there are no hiccups, will sign on at the Liberty Stadium on a three-year deal. Although it bolsters Brendan Rodgers’ squad, it seems unlikely that Routledge will be no more than back-up to Scott Sinclair and Nathan Dyer on the wings in Swansea’s 4-3-3, unless the Swans boss is looking at a change in formation.

Yuri Zhirkov looks set to become the first player to leave Chelsea since the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas. Having weighed up his squad on their recent tour of Asia, the Blues boss is moving quickly to implement his squad restructuring plans and Zhirkov’s sale is the first step in what looks to be a busy month ahead.

If certain reports are to be believed, Fulham are eyeing up Cameron Jerome as the Birmingham summer sale shows no sign of ending soon. The move, if it transpires, seems a strange one- Bobby Zamora looks a nailed-on starter for the Cottagers, with Andy Johnson and Moussa Dembele fighting it out for the other forward place. Jerome’s arrival would cast doubts over the club’s strike-pairing under Martin Jol, which would not be good news for Fantasy managers. Another forward at the club would further decrease Clint Dempsey’s chances of playing as a makeshift striker on occasion next term, too.

Ben Foster has been added to the FPL game with a starting price of 5.0. Foster’s new club West Brom chalked up a mere 2 clean sheets last term and his presence between the sticks will boost that tally, without question. Foster proved last season, despite being relegated with Birmgham, that a keeper in a struggling team can provide plenty points even if clean sheets don’t come his way. Mark has pointed out in an article last week that Foster rotates with Shay Given all the way to game week 17, though with a combined Fantasy price of 10.0, this may prove too costly for some.

who cares, wont start. Dont see him in Dalglish's plans as he prefers Lucas to hold the midfield and will opt for adam ahead of aqua. they are the only 2 places he can play

could play Adam and Lucas as holding midfield in 4-2-3-1 formation with Aquilani behind Carroll? TBH I'm not convinced he'll be a Liverpool player by the start of the season but he has been impressing plenty of people in pre-season. He was on dead ball duties too yesterday with Gerrard out.

After many a night staring at the screen I have plumped for this team. I know will people will look at Lamps and Saha, but they only played a bit part last season and scored rightly for time played. Anyhow some advice would be appreciated.

    Kenny/Gordon

    Hughes, Orr, Alcaraz (Simpson, Bardsley)

    Taarabt, Lampard, VDV, N'Zogbia (Brunt)

    Zamora, RVP, Saha

Saha to odem in GW3 & the rest of the transfers will go on shuffling defenders.

Consider Lamps > Malouda and upgrade at the back

Got some brave decisions in there, which I like to see - it actually makes posting your team worthwhile, unlike many others. But Lampard's price (along with RvP and VDV) seems to inhibit your defence. Don't like the look of that at all. I don't think it's feasible to have the most expensive mid AND forward.

To me RVP is a must have. Only played half of last season and scored 30 points shy of Tevez and 20 off next best. Lampard is a risk value wise but then at least I know I will have the funds to change to anyone. Malouda did cross my team sheet a few times, but Torres getting free kicks and pens has persuaded me. I'm hoping on a bargin defender arising like they normally do, although I will fit in Rafael after the Utd's fixtures ease.

    Ferdinand Vs Luiz.

Both play for top teams and same price

    Ferdinand = nailed-on, tough fixtures

No he's not, he is too injury prone first off, and secondly, he will be used sparingly, he is pushing on and will be rotated so that he plays 2 games, then rested, and so on, not worth it in my view.

Kompany, Luiz, Enrique (Simpson, De Laet)
    Silva, Taarabt, Malouda, Sess, Moses
    Rooney(C), Carroll (Holt)

How do you guys compare Suarez and Carroll in terms of FPL point potential? Seems a lot of teams around here have Suarez in.

I would say the goals will be split fairly evenly between them.

So basically, until they start scoring twice as much, I'm staying away.

I think it is only Moses who is really hot around here. Not the others. Another reason is Wigan has a good fixture for the first few games.

I think everyone is jumping on the old band wagon as they are playing all of the newly promoted championship sides...strange really given the fact that they are not far off being one anyway...especially after selling their prized asset.

I think that if you are looking for a wigan player, moses is your best bet on pre-season form.

Moses is perhaps the key player is a sh!t team, but anything should really go through him, and he's cheap. So while he's bench-worthy, he's still nailed on, and a good shout.

    Given Rddy
    Cole, Simpson, Kompany, Hughes, Orr
    Silva, Taarabt, Sessegnon, Malouda, Moses
    Suarez, Bent, Zamora

    Should i do

Cole>> Bramble (not sure about this)
Bent>>RVP (RVP will score better long run)
    Sess>>N'Zog

RVP is causing me problems.. Would you please just get injured or something..

Well, RVP will outscore if he can last that long. Plus Arsenal's fixture is not as good. I am staying with Bent for now.

A different kind of RMT - am serious as well

    Given/Robbo - DeVries/Ruddy

City - Chelsea - cheap (cheap - cheap)

City - Chelsea - cheap - cheap (cheap)

    Arsenal - United - cheap

is the current strategy I've got in place. The 3rd defender will rotate depending on fixtures.

Mainly gone for this due to Chelsea and City's nice opening fixtures and the fact that all the top teams can score against anyone.

    Thoughts?

Well, it's possible, but the fringe players will suck ass.
Midfield is probably gonna be terrible.

and you still can't afford Lampard if you get the best of the rest.

          Given/Robbo - De Vries

          Kompany - Luiz - Bramble - Wilkinson - Simpson

          Silva - Malouda - O'Hara - Tchoyi - Moses

          Rooney - RVP - Graham.

The problem with giving examples is you get the same old chestnuts of "'x' is a rotation risk" and peoples personal opinions on players and who they think is a better alternative. Which is fine...

Just wanted to know what people thought about this as a strategy?

Well, I di this in my first season. I got Terry Henry and all the best dream-teamers I could and settled for the cheapest possible defence etc.

          Did horrendously.

You might have to sacrifice one of the name positions to make sure your "cheaps" are worthwhile, but essentially my strategy is the same as yours.

Given/robbo ,mostly cheap defs, combo expensive and cheap mids, mostly expensive forwards.

True. One of the cheap midfielders could quite easily become an 'average' one with downgrading a forward.

But it seems obvious that Rooney and RVP (obviously!) will be the big point scorers for their teams. Both on pens - Both always involved in attacks. Both can score against anyone.

I don't know if an average midfielder will scor ethat much more than the cheaper ones with this years pricing.

I can at least tell you that you have a different team from the rest of RMTs'. It could be better or worse, we'll see.
I only have concerns for Davies and Modric. If I have to choose Fulham's mid, I prefer Duff or Dempsey depending on your wallet size.
