Our next Members article looking at the idea of “value” sees Forwards come under the microscope. With a fresh revision of players last weekend in light of factors such as transfers and pre-season tactics, we’ve tweaked the Projected totals to give you an up-to-date reflection on our thinking. While many of our top ten value forwards are lower-priced options that perhaps may be more suited to rotation, the kind opening prices afforded to the likes of Luis Suarez and Peter Odemwingie propels a couple of FPL big-hitters firmly into our thoughts.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I'm starting to think Carroll is the best striker to start with.

His fixtures are great, he's on good pre-season form, and Liverpool will look to start strong too.

Sunderland - His old arch nemesis. I can see him bagging a few there.
Arsenal - He's always done really well against them, and last season brought home the bacon both home and away.
Bolton - They look shaky at the back, and Carroll could definitely do some damage there too.

He's 10.0, which is a great price too. It means you can easily switch to Bent or downgrade to Suarez easily.

Was looking at him, but I like having RVP and Rooney.

Can't see any other solid offensive options for either Arsenal or Man U...

I've had Carroll in my team since day 1. I figured Gerrard & Adam delivery with his heading would be lethal, but even without Gerrard I suppose Downing will do.

I agree but I'm not willing to roll the dice on him yet until Suarez is back.

Gonna go with EPL Lover on the whole Rooney/RVP thing.
I've had Rooney since FPL opened but I switched in RVP aswell about 4 days ago to go along with Holt and I think that unless any big transfers happen that that is the way my strikers are going to stay.

He's going to be good I think. Downing will put balls straight onto his head, but I think that most people are going with Suarez and don't want to put all of their eggs in a Liverpool basket. That's my reasoning anyway.

    Given Ruddy
    ColeA Kompany Bramble Simpson Orr
    Malouda Silva Sinclair Moses Ephraim
    Rooney VanPersie Holt

Given- everyone has him, cheap and behind a pretty solid defense
Ruddy- rotates well, won’t play much since Norwich will probably be the whipping boys

ColeA- great clean sheet and attacking potential, Chelsea nice start
Kompany- another ‘must have,’ a mainstay in the solid City backline
Bramble- Titus Shambles is an accident waiting to happen, but 4.5 is still a snip imo
Simpson/Orr- my cheap benchies, 4.0 starters for their sides

Malouda- downgraded Lamps, looks like he should still be a starter
Silva- appears as if Bruce is building the side around him, plays right behind the striker
Sinclair- prefer him to Taarabt as this season’s Charlie Adam
Moses- should thrive without N’Zog, great opening fixtures
    Ephraim- benchie, starter for QPR

Rooney- good preseason, Man U coverage
RVP- labeled a ‘must have’ by many, covers Arsenal…not too much too say above these two
Holt- great goal scoring record in the Championship

No Liverpool coverage which is my only worry...looking at Carroll possibly to free up some cash.

I’ve kept the same core for awhile now while tinkering less and less…happy to fit in 4 captain choices.
There’s my novel, anyone want to give their thoughts?
    Cheers

        Can't really fault it.

Just one thing.. I know that fixture-wise Given/Ruddy seems to be the practical option but I'd say having Ruddy is similar to having Gilks or Kingson last season, you'll never want to play him. I'd choose Moreira instead. Swansea had a solid home record so he would be an option sometimes, just forget it when he plays away.

      I like it, very solid.

The only thing is, I don't think RVP and Rooney is worth it. They are both at the same price point, and considering fixtures, I would choose one, downgrade the other, and wait and see. There are solid choices further down which could give better value and solve the problem of having to play Moses every week.

I guess your relying on Malouda & Silva as your main midfield options, then hoping for Sinclair & Moses to come through on there predictions while having Ephraim as your throw away 5th midfielder.

Looks like it could work, I' ve tinkered with a similar lineup but I've decided to have more of an even middle. Good defense and strikers tho..........

        Only changes,

Taarabt for Ephraim - I don't like to have someone ill never want to play in my front 8.

        And

Caroll/Suarez for RVP Depending on the latter fitness.

Yeah makes sense, and there's the chance he could lose his spot when toures back. Thing is though if he stays 1st choice which I think he will he's well worth the extra 0.5. Same cs points but lescott has probably the most natural goal scoring instincts of any cb in the league.

You could get Hoolahan, and then use the 2m to upgade N'Zogbia to Silva. Duff comes in at 6.5m, Sessegnon is a favourite around here, Sinclair rotates nicely wth Taraabt at 6m. Ramsey could be good if Fabs goes, but probably not nailed on to start every week- better options out there.

I had both to start, both on set pieces, but I now think it is a little too much of a gamble to be relying on two newly promoted players to bring home the bacon, I think it is safer to pick one, and I have gone with Taarabt purely because he plays at home week 1 and "Should" have a better chance to score.

So I agree with the Men I suppose!

True but very few people were buying ANY Blackpool players in pre season last year. The only talk of them was how few points they'd get and how many goals Boselli would score against them on the opening day 😀

All the talk was of Nolan, Dorrans and Brunt. And for the first half of the season only 11 of those was a winner.

I disagree with Rodellega. Everyone already knows what he can do and it isn't much. 1 goal in 3 if you're very lucky.

Better and more fun to take a punt on a Graham or Holt. Or you could obviously afford Zamora. Maybe even Jones or Ba.

Ha, it happens, all the teams are the same at the minute, Rodallega is really going to have to step up to the plate in N'Zogbia's absence, and I think he is actually more of a punt than Graham or Holt because we don't expect a whole lot from them, Zamora would be the safer choice, but I have an eye on upgrading Carroll to Drogba for week 2 if he plays

Many people are having Rooney and/or RVP. Fixture-wise, both MU and Arsenal are having pretty tough times for fist few weeks.

What about Bent? N'Zog coverage will be enough for Villa easy fixtures?

Brilliant post from about this time last year!

    Goalkeepers:
    ===========
    1) Do you have 2 x £4.5m keepers who rotate well home and away?
Yes: Team Approved ———No: Start again
    2) Do you have any Goalkeeper over £6m coupled with any goalkeeper less than £4.5m?
Yes: Start again. ———No: Carry on, but see question 1 (above)
    Defenders:
    =========
    1) Do you have more than 2 x £5.5m defenders?
Yes: Too much spent on defence, start again ——– No: Carry on
    2) Does your defence contain any players from the following teams; Blackpool, Arsenal, Liverpool or Wigan?
Yes: Start again ——–No: Carry on
    3) Have you spent more than £6.0m on any defender not called Ashley Cole?
Yes: Start again (See’ too much money on defence’ argument, above) ——– No: Carry on, but see rule 1 regarding more than two expensive defenders
    4) Does your defence have one of these two untested £4.5m cheapies: Al Muhammadi or Van Damme?
Yes; Team approved ———– No: Start again. You must have one of these two. Its the law.
    Midfielders:
    ==========
    1) Does your midfield NOT contain at least one of the following: Lampard, Fabregas, Arteta?
Yes: Definitely start again ——– No: Carry on
    2) Does your midfield contain the M Petrov from Bolton (NOT the M Petrov from Aston Villa)?
Yes: Carry on ——— No: Start again
    3) Does your midfield NOT contain Lampard, Fabregas or Arteta but DOES contain Gerrard?
Yes: Start again (Have you seen their opening fixtures?) ——– No: Rule 1 still applies. Start again.
    Forwards:
    ========
    1) Do you have Drogba?
Yes: Team Approved ———– No: Carry on, but see the next question.
    2) Do you have Van Persie or Rooney instead of Drogba?
Yes: Carry on, but you should really have Drogba though! ——- No: Please give up playing fantasy football as you clearly don’t have a clue.
    3) Is your cheap >£6.5m forward Boselli instead of Doyle?
Yes: Start again ——– No: Carry on
    4) Do I have a Blackpool Striker on my bench?
Yes; Start again ————- No: Team approved
    Generic Team Question
    =================
    1) Do I have any Liverpool players at all, in any position, on my team?
Yes: Start again (See ‘have you seen their first five fixtures’ argument above) —– No: Team approved, subject to fulfilling all other criteria above.

Will be monitoring Valencia closely. Only £8m and just signed a new contract. Could be a bargain once SAF realises how sh!t Ashely Young is.

Nani obviously should do well, highest scorer last season after all. I think a big factor in that was Valencia's absence though. He seems to play far better on the right than left but he'll probably alternate depending if he's starting with Young or Valencia.

i was thinking the same thing. and valencia is a favourite of SAF. I can see nani and young rotating alot on the left, unless young plays behind rooney?

Hey guys, been tinkering a little and looking at some differentials. Here's what I've got

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany, Baines, Enrique (Johnson, Ward)
    N'Zog, Sessegnon, Malouda, Eagles(Dyer)
    Carrol, Holt, Rooney (c)

    1.0 mil in bank

I've been trying to have a good rotation system at the back. My back line will probably be the same every week, with Johnson coming in when WOL have a decent fixture.

My midfield is pretty standard, with the exception of Eagles. With Lee out for the season, I can see him stepping up and becoming a provider for BOL. This is definitely a massive punt, but I though I'd take a risk :/

My forward line is a mixture of history and predictions. Holt looks like he could be this year's Carrol, and Carrol was last year's Carrol, and Rooney is on fire in preseason.

So that's my team with some annotations on my thought process. Feedback is definitely appreciated!

Eagles is too much of a punt especially when you factor in their horrific fixtures.
Whats your problem with Taraabt? The one good thing about a punt on Taraabt is that by GW4 you will know if he is going to cut it in the prem and score you points as they have an easy start.

If not look to Sinclair or maybe Barton if still in the prem.

MF generally looks very weak but knowing the pricing inside out myself I can see why. You just have to be weak somewhere this season

Definitely will depend on where Barton ends up. If you don't count him in probably Sess, but then again he isn't really that proven. Sinclair was really good for SWA last season, but not sure if he can perform in the PL.

That would depend on who you think will score more during AVL's good run of fixtures. N'zog will probably be on set pieces, but Bent will be on pens. BUT! You will get Suarez in, which will give you some decent LIV cover. If you do not already have any LIV players, then doing the swap may be a good idea

Ya I dont understand why there is so little love for Albrighton so far.

He got 4 goals and 7 assists in only 1800 mins last year. Can't see him not doubling his goals and adding a few more assists to his total from last year.

With only 4% currently having him, he seems like a great differenetial to me.

    N'Zogbia VS Albrighton
Who is the better pick??? (In a purely FPL view)
N'Zogbia will probably boss around set pieces giving him extra chances but Albrighton is cheaper and just as capable to match N'Zogbia as he should last season.
    Who would you pick??

N'zog of course but if your desperate for the extra 1mil then Albrighton is definitely a good fall-back option. I'm sure N'zog will outscore him but maybe not by a country mile

Well I reckon O'Shea is a safer choice as he's their new captain. But Bardsley did show last year he can gather offensive returns as well. I would personally go with O'Shea though if given the choice

Both looking like being starters so are fairly equal in that respect.
Maybe Bardsley though as he seems pretty attacking (scored again in pre-season) and maybe O'shea will be anchoring the DF from CB and will have less offensive points scoring opportunities.
not much in it though IMO

Depends on the rest of your team. Fitting in Baines, Kompany and Cole is a big stretch for the rest of your team. I would try and keep those 3 if possible but if other parts of your team are weak, downgrade and use the money

          Ask yourself this:
What positions on the pitch usually score the most points every week?
I'd say usually Forwards then MF then DF.

I know Baines had some weeks last season where he was scoring mega points (and maybe he will again) but I'm putting my money in attack and MF and trying to bargain hunt in DF.

Not having too much invested in defense has allowed me to choose Rooney, Suarez/Caroll, Silva, Malouda & N'zog. I really wouldnt drop any of them for Cole or Baines
