Our next Members article looking at the idea of “value” sees Forwards come under the microscope. With a fresh revision of players last weekend in light of factors such as transfers and pre-season tactics, we’ve tweaked the Projected totals to give you an up-to-date reflection on our thinking. While many of our top ten value forwards are lower-priced options that perhaps may be more suited to rotation, the kind opening prices afforded to the likes of Luis Suarez and Peter Odemwingie propels a couple of FPL big-hitters firmly into our thoughts.

    FFS's Team of the Season would cost an eye-watering £121M to buy this season, and that's not including the second keeper you would have to buy for a full squad :O

    Don't think anyone is touching Coleman now as he's a midfielder, and Foster and Adam are far less attractive at their respective new clubs. Nani and Malouda have become rotation risks. Tevez is likely to be off. VDV seems to get injured if someone even just looks at him funny.

    Looks like the defenders and strikers, RVP and Odem, are the most attractive selections from 10/11 TOTS.

    Hi please can you offer any constructive criticism or advice on my team:

    Given , Ruddy

    Cole, Kompany, Warnock, Orr, Simpson

    VDV, NZogbia, Taarabt, Moses, Sinclair

    Rooney, RVP, Holt

    My only possible edit at the moment is to swap Warnock.

    Although im not keen on Hughes as he doesnt score/assist and new manager Jol is very attacking.

    Other option is Enrique if he moves, or Oshea

    But i think Aston Villa have much more chance of keeping clean sheets in first 5 games than Sunderland.

    Thoughts appreciated

    Why do so many people have Orr in their team? Is there something which make him particularly better than other cheap defenders?

      QPR had a very good defensive record in winning the Championship last season. Orr is a starter for them and comes up with a goal or two, so he's a decent shout at his price.

      Thinking about both. There's no chance of getting RVP in, but I might replace Bent with Drogba if the right sounds are bing made close to GW1.

    Anyone play the telegraph fantasy football? Going to give it a try this season I think so any tips are appreciated such as best formation. Looking at 3-5-2 at the moment. As tempted as I am to play the premier league ff, it took up way too much of my life last season, lol.

      its good but gets boring, i prefer this one because it keeps you involved where as telegraph you cant make changes every week or you'll run out of transfers

    RVP or Torres? I have got Van persie in my team at the mo but then i seen the fixtures they both start off with

    Torres first three fixtures are - Stoke (A), West Brom (H) and Norwich (H)

    Compared with Van Perise who's fixtures are - Newcastle (A), Liverpool (H) and Man Utd (A).

    Also, Anyone who has Barton, Who have you replaced him with or are you keeping him till his future is sorted?

          Yes, but when RVP scores a hattrick GW1 and Torres is benched I doubt many will.

    (Given + Hughes) vs (Schwarzer + Collins) Just some thoughts.

    Looking at the RMTs, most people wanting a Villa and Fulham player in defence have Given and Hughes. Schwarzer + Collins is 0.5 more expensive but Collins adds much more of a goal threat than Hughes. I expect Schwarzer and Given to score roughly the same over the season.

    Also, Collins is 5.5m and so could be swapped for a number of other solid defenders when the time came (Jags, Rafael, etc). I can't see many other players at 5.0 (Hughes's price) I'd want (unless Enrique moves) so, unless I had cash in the bank, switching Hughes could be tricky. It just looks better for future flexibility to have a 5.5 rather than a 5.0.

    Is noone worried that villa might not have their defence sorted out by the start of the season? They really aren't a very solid team, particularly in CM.

      yeah aston villas midfeild is looking poor so the defence and given which is made up of very good players will be under constand pressure if they cant dominate the midfeild battle, saying that ive still got bent and warnock in my team ,but bent will get you goals and lots of them

      I have opted for Given over a villa defender for that very reason! Villas defence is shakey at best.

      Yep - I'm steering cleer of villa players for now. Just lost their 2 best players and have a new manager so who knows how they'll get on.

      Given for the price is a good pick but I don't think theres anything hugely wrong with going for Robbo/Schwarzer instead. I expect similar returns.

            I have them both actually. Holt is not particularly attractive to me, but basically, I could have almost every player I wanted if I dropped Rooney for Holt.

            I've gone for a strong defence, and I've tried to follow what I should have done a few seasons back, getting some strong players, but getting some good prospects from promoted teams, hoping the price rises.

            I've noticed that promoted teams tend to do far better earlier in the season, so let's hope that trend continues - once I get about 106-108m, I can then patch up the weaker parts of my team.

    I cant help thinking that a very decent defence will be a good strategy to start off with given villas/ che/ liv's and city starting fixtures. I think there is more value in defence than in mids this year. Also with the big gun forwards having hard starts what do you think of this?

      Honestly the forward line is too weak imo. One of Rooney or RVP, if not both, should be in there. Lack of obvious captain picks too.

      Not sure why Lamps would even get a look from anyone at this point either. Defence isn't bad but upgrade to strikers with some Lamps money.

      Fit and on form Rooney/RVP will be scoring points for fun

          That's the point though. If you have the money tied up in your strikers and defence then just play less midfields - I certainly think the midfield options aren't as good this year - not yet at least. No doubt some people will emerge as good picks but I can't see anyone standing out in the mid-upper price ranges...

          cant win em all. i may go one of carroll or suarez at some point, having 2 12.0 forwards makes a downgrade easy, just pick the weaker link of the two to drop. plus pools early run of fixtures and abundance of scoring options makes it a an easier pill to swallow.

          Defence is too weak. Malouda probably isn't worth 10.5m with the high chances of rotation, so downgrade him and upgrade a defender or two.
