Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor was named in the starting XI to face City but was forced to withdraw prior to kick-off due to illness.

Burnley
Right-back Kieran Trippier is set to be assessed after he was stretchered off with an ankle injury during the 2-2 draw at Leicester – after the match, Sean Dyche was hoping the injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Chelsea
Thibaut Courtois was subbed off midway through the first-half of yesterday’s win over Arsenal due to a head injury. The club have since confirmed the keeper has been given the all-clear after undergoing precautionary tests and is expected to turn out for Belgium over the international break.

Crystal Palace
Scott Dann is set for knee scans after being forced off just 12 minutes into the weekend loss at Hull.

Everton
Steven Pienaar lasted just 64 minutes of the weekend loss at United before being forced off with a possible recurrence of the thigh injury that had kept him on the sidelines since Gameweek 2. John Stone was stretchered off at Old Trafford, with Roberto Martinez a little worried in his initial prognosis:

“It’s a ligament problem in his ankle. We are going to assess him in the next 48 hours. It’s such a massive blow because, as you have seen today, he plays with an incredible arrogance and great maturity. It’s not for me to say yet [whether he will be fit for England] because we need to get the medical department to assess him. But for him to come off, then I don’t expect John to be fully fit for next week.”

Hull
Ahmed Elmohamady was subbed off in the dying minutes of the weekend win over Palace due to injury.

Leicester City
Esteban Cambiasso missed out with a recurrence of a knock picked up at Palace last week. The Argentine had previously been passed fit by Nigel Pearson but was unable to make the squad for the 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Man City
Fernandinho will be assessed after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend win at Villa, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed post-match.

Man United
Luke Shaw was withdrawn midway through the second half of United’s win over Everton yesterday but after the match, the left-back revealed he expects to turn out for the upcoming internationals:

“It’s not a bad injury, it’s a dead leg on my knee. I felt it in the first 20 minutes when I got caught but it carried on during the game so I thought it was probably best to come off before it gets any worse. I spoke with the doctor and obviously the manager as well and both feel it’s best that I do go [with the England Under-21s] as it’s not an injury that is going to keep me out. Hopefully, I should be training in the next couple of days and can get another two games of 90 minutes each.”

Post-match, it was also revealed that Paddy McNair had suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory. The young defender was forced to withdraw from the Northern Ireland squad for their forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with reports claiming that he could be sidelined for three weeks.

Newcastle
Magpies right-back Daryl Janmaat has puled out of international duties for Holland after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend draw at Swansea.

Stoke City
After overcoming a thigh problem for the trip to Sunderland, Victor Moses was subbed off with a recurrence of the problem, with Mark Hughes explaining:

“Victor came off against Newcastle on Monday and we had him scanned. Nothing showed up and we were hoping that it was just a neural thing but he felt it almost immediately and had to come off. We lacked his drive and the purpose that he’s given us in recent games and although him going off disrupted us, it’s not an excuse as we should have been able to compensate for that.”

Sunderland
Emanuele Giaccherini and Ricardo Alvarez missed the 3-1 win over Stoke through injury and post-match, Gus Poyet admitted the duo, along with Seb Coates, “are going to be out for a while”.

Tottenham
Kyle Naughton was an early casualty in yesterday’s win over Southampton – the right-back was subbed off midway through the first period after sustaining an ankle injury as a result of a challenge from Ryan Bertrand.

Morning fellas! Would you save a FT if international break goes without casualties?

    Begovic
    PvA, Naylor, Bertrand
    Siggy, Sterling, Fabregas, Tadic
    Pelle, Aguero, Costa

    Subs: Gilks, Chester, Cattermole, Rio
    1 FT, 1.7 ITB

Yep no ADM and that's pretty annoying. I just don't know how to bring him in at the moment. Makes no sense to get rid of Pelle/Tadic considering Southampton's fixtures. :/

PVA -> Jagielka crossed my mind but would you still instead save FT this gw if possible? or just get rid of PvA.

i would get a third good defender - jags is an interesting compromise from baines

Is there a more non-sensical argument consistently put forward on here than 'this player will have to outscore this player by this amount to justify the extra cost'?

I don't think there is, but would be interested to hear some others as I am open to changing my opinion.

I dont think so. Total points scored will always involve two or more players.
e.g. On paper, Aguero will easily outscore Welbeck, Bertrand will easily outscore Duff and say Sterling will outscore Hendo/Chadli.
But Aguero-Duff-Hendo cant easily outscore Welbeck-Bertrand-Sterling plus 2m.
It depends where you invest that extra cash...

As always it's not about the extra cost but rather what you do with any other money. So when looking at players it's better not to look in isolation but say is A & B going to out score C & D

i hate when people go on too much about value, eg get welbeck instead of kun and get baines and an extra big hitter in mid, doesnt work like that when you factor in captaincy etc. i just play by getting my kuns and costa and finding my value around them.

I know what you mean JOA.

Topically: Aguero would have to outscore Baines at a rate of 12 to 7 to justify that extra expenditure in the forward line. It usually works in pairs or groups though, i.e. Baines & Welbeck will outscore Aguero and Moore ... yada yada

      Exactly.

There is a pool of in for, players to pick from at the minute. If you play your cards right, you can have all/most of them. It's not a case of Aguero and Wisdom or Baines and Welbeck, for example. You can have them all. I have managed to squeeze in the top four sought after mids, with Aguero, Costa and Welbeck and some SOT defence. It's possible.

It's never about one player though is it?

On paper Aguero should easily outscore Welbeck,
Imagine you downgrade Aguero to Welbeck & spend the extra 5 mill to do Naylor Siggy -> Baines Walcott

Baines Walcott should probably outscore Aguero's advantage over Welbeck.

Aguero Naylor Siggy vs Welbeck Baines Walcott.

    Repost

The way my team is set up
    Krulliott
    Baines Terry Clyne CAULKER Duff
    Eriksen Sterling Siggy Tadic Adm
    Costa Welbeck Vardy
    1.8 in the bank
    1 FT

The only person i want out is Caulker. Considerin i'm sticking with a 3-5-2 and all my mids have good fixtures/form would
    A) Caulker to Mangala/Kompany/Azpilicueta be madness
    OR
    B) Vardy to Sakho be the better option
    OR
    C) Save my transfer if no injuries

A will tie up too much funds in the back, but sadly you cant get someone much better than vardi for the funds you have.
seems like you will play baines clyne and terry for the next 3-4 games anyway, so maybe caulker to moore/wisdom/hutton and then you will release some funds for a change in the fron 8 later.

your team looks solid for 3-5-2, imo caulker for expensive def. is a waste considering you will be playing only 3 at the back. so b looks better option

After long deliberation I decided I'd probably bring in Ivanovic over Baines, doubling up on the Chelsea defence.

I clicked the transfers just to look at it on the screen and OOPS. Too many Chelsea players!

What a waste of time that thought process was!

So we're always hearing about how much your "team value" is...103.5, 104.1, 102.7, etc. etc........

I believe your TRUE TV is what it is worth if you sold it today. Just because a lot of us picked up Costa at 10.5 and he's "worth" 11.1 now doesn't mean that's what we get when we sell him. We get 10.8...so to me that's what he is worth to me.

My team value is fairly low, I've had a bad start and had to do quite a few transfers in and out to get to where I needed to be so I'm not as high as a lot of you but my TRUE vale is 100.9 if I sold everyone today. That includes what I have in the bank btw.

So.....what is your team really worth???

    1. Stupendous
      • 13 Years

Yes it is called selling value.

No problem. So what's your "selling value" then?

My point was that everyone brags about their team value, but in all reality it's not the true number that people should be throwing out there. I'm just interested to see what number people come up with. If that's too "lengthy" for you, then I guess you don't have to read it.

An even more important thing than selling value is how much of your increase in value you can actually monetise and buy new players. For example, increases in TV in ADM, Siggy, Fab and Costa won't help your team particularly much because barring injury or serious loss of form, they are pretty much season keepers. It's only really increases in TV in people that you plan to sell at some point in the future (Dier, Naismith, Downing, Hutton etc) that can actually help your team.

Totally agree. This is why I believer most people's TV is worthless. Nobody's selling the template players unless they get hurt, so their value isn't worth anything that can help them.

        Great point!

        True this.

But nobody is essential and untransferable though. Even Suarez last season.

So selling value is a good enough representation of our team's financial position

I.e. from a defender's point of view, you'd have to prefer stoke to everton. Opposite from a striker's POV... no?

No - mine doesn't work like that. It generalises the strength/past form/present form of the teams.

And, I don't believe in an attacker's fixture problem. Form is as form does.

After that, it is down to how competent the opposition's defence are.

For instance, currently Liverpool, Everton and MUN are making 2 - 3 errors per game.

OK. So the ticker is more for picking defenders, and focuses on the opposition's defence? If so I'd agree that is perfect.

I would, however, say that fixtures play a part for attackers too. There aren't many players you'd fancy to score well at Stamford Bridge for example, although I remember Van Persie destroying them once.

I tried to wildcard my team, mostly because I want Baines, change my keeper and remove some deadweight (Diouf, Davis) and terrible underperformers (Moreno, Sterling, Coloccini).

I wasn't happy enough with the team I got, and I just went ahead with Diouf ➡ Sterling.

Now, now. That currently leaves my team for next week as.

    Begovic.
    Moreno, Coloccini, Clyne.
    Sterling. di Maria. Sigurdsson. Tadic.
    Aguero. Costa (c). Welbeck.

    (Hamer, Davis, van Aanholt, Hutton).

Had two consecutive drops, bringing me down to 90k, and already so miserable.

    What would you suggest?

We have the same problem. Solid front 8, but defence needs a makeover. Not worth a WC though, unless there a couple injuries to come out of the break

        • 12 Years

Hah, it feels really bad to get 5-6 points from a total of 4 players, actually.

And when I tried to WC, I wanted the same front 7. Just didn't let me get Baines that way. Feels like a WC to get Tomkins/Foster/Forster/Dawson/Chambers is not really worth it.

I could do a -8 and fit Baines in with the same attackers but I can't see that paying off this week, nor is it worth WCing for 3-4 defensive changes
