Ahmed Elmohamady faces a race to be fit for Hull’s trip to Arsenal. West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate could be back in time to face Burnley, Sunderland’s Emanuele Giaccherini may be sidelined until December, while Nigel Pearson talks up Riyad Mahrez’ prospects after the wide man served up a goal and assist against Burnley.

Elmohamady Withdraws from Egypt Squad

Ahmed Elmohamady has dropped out of Egypt’s squad for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers with a back injury and returned to Hull for further monitoring.

The Scout Says: The Egyptian picked up the problem in the final minutes of the weekend win over Palace and reports suggests he also sustained an arm injury in the incident. Having played 64 consecutive matches in all competitions for the Tigers, his loss would be a bitter blow as Steve Bruce’s side roll up to Arsenal, with Liam Rosenior on standby to deputise if Elmohamady fails to make it. Bruce’s shift to 3-5-2 last weekend brought James Chester back into the first-team, though regardless of formation, Andrew Robertson, at 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, still seems the safest option in the Tigers’ rearguard. With Liverpool, Southampton, Spurs, United and Everton also on their agenda in the next seven Gameweeks, clean sheets look very much few and far between for Bruce’s team.

Pearson Praise for Mahrez

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has talked up the recent performances of Riyad Mahrez after the 23-year-old winger bagged a goal and assist at the weekend, describing the Algerian as a “match winner at both ends”.

The Scout Says: Having been dropped in Gameweeks 5 and 6, Mahrez was one of the main beneficiaries of Pearson’s move to a 4-4-2 set-up against Burnley, as he returned to the starting line-up on the right flank and earned his first attacking points of the campaign. The Algerian now sits atop the Leicester midfield rankings in FPL with 21 points, and at just 4.9 could prove an outstanding budget midfield option if he can hold down a starting role ahead of the Foxes’ kind upcoming agenda (new, swa, WBA, sou, SUN, qpr). Mahrez’ gain may be David Nugent’s loss, however, after Saturday’s change in formation saw the English forward left out of the line-up for the first time this season, with Jamie Vardy the man preferred alongside Leonardo Ulloa up top for the Foxes.

Giaccherini Concern for Sunderland

Reports in Italy suggest that Emanuele Giaccherini could be out until December with an ankle problem, after the Sunderland midfielder paid visit to his national side’s training camp in midweek.

The Scout Says: Yesterday’s news will have come as a blow for Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, though will be welcome news for Connor Wickham’s slender band of owners with the England Under-21s man’s start on the left wing now looking assured for the next couple of months. Some may feel that Wickham’s potential has been dented by his move back to the flank to accommodate Steven Fletcher in the central forward spot, but last weekend’s 11-point haul illustrated the 5.8-priced forward is still capable of delivering from out wide. With Wickham back on the flank, competition for the Black Cats’ right wing berth is intensifying – Will Buckley has now started each of the last two but Adam Johnson will be hoping to oust the summer signing, after being dropped to the bench against Stoke at the weekend. A horrendous run for the Black Cats from now until Gameweek 15, in which they face all of last season’s top five, should give Fantasy managers plenty of reasons to steer clear of their midfield assets for now anyway.

Kouyate Pushing for Quick Return

West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate could be back in the frame for the Gameweek 8 clash with Burnley after making a rapid recovery from a groin injury. The Senegal international had originally been ruled out for up to six weeks after sustaining the problem against Liverpool in Gameweek 6, but is now on course to make a return at Turf Moor.

The Scout Says: Kouyate’s return could be great news for owners of Stewart Downing, after the former Liverpool midfielder was moved to a deeper role against QPR at the weekend due to injuries. That didn’t stop the 5.6-priced man picking up his third assist of the season, however, as he continues to deliver on his underlying stats. With encounters against Stoke and Villa also on the Hammers’ agenda in the next four, Downing’s appeal as a budget midfield option seems unlikely to diminish any time soon.

PIENAAR READY TO PRESS ON

Everton’s Steven Pienaar believes he is still far from full match sharpness after returning from a six-week absence with a thigh injury against Man United last Sunday. The South African was handed a start by Roberto Martinez at Old Trafford, but was subbed off just after the hour mark, and is aware that he will require more pitch time to build his fitness:

“For me, it was a great feeling just to be back on the pitch after almost six weeks out. I didn’t expect to start but when you get this type of opportunity, you have to grab it with both hands. For me, it’s important to stay focused and stay fit now. You can do all the graft and the running, but the thing I’ve missed is playing. It’s different from just running in training and I need more games under my belt [to get back to 100 per cent].”

The Scout Says: Ruled out since Gameweek 2, Pienaar’s return to the fray coincides with an excellent run of fixtures for the Toffees. The South African’s words should also allay fears over any injury, after initial reports suggested he was withdrawn due to a recurrence of the problem in the 2-1 defeat. Coupled with the continued absence of Kevin Mirallas due to a hamstring problem, this should mean that the 5.8-priced midfielder is likely to feature in the Toffees’ starting line-up in two weekends’ time when they face Aston Villa. The Merseyside outfit have been struggling for form recently, with just one win in their last five league fixtures, though they have an attractive schedule ahead of them (AVL, bur, SWA, sun, WHM) which may well provide Pienaar the platform to impress as a real under-the-radar option.

Any thoughts as to whether Walcott's return will have a negative impact on Welbeck's output/game time?

won't affect his gametime much (maybe once every 5 or 6 we could see walcott up top)

as for his returns, they will defo increase with theo on the wing. welbeck's highest source of goals are crosses

Pelle and Jones to Hutton and Aguero this GW for -4 or next GW for free ?

Next planned transfer will be PVA -> Chambers and I only have 0.1 spare so I'm worried that if I don't do the transfer this GW I will be priced out.

On average how many FPL teams become inactive each week? Obviously will depend on how people are doing but over the seasons I'd expect it to average out to a reasonably similar figure each GW.

I reckon high numbers drop out early on and then a big spike over Xmas as people miss deadlines etc and give up and then another spike around Easter when people realise they're not owing to win ML's etc.

That said, if you remain active throughout the season, you really should be benefiting from this cull.

You can tell by the early bandwagons...Dier would have been a good benchmark over the next week or two but sadly he is back as a pick now so difficult to use him...

Yeah understand what you mean Wakey.

Even someone like Ramsey & Rooney. Not sure current ownership but you'd think most active players (75%) would have shipped them.

I reckon as many as 50k drop out each week, with spikes around Xmas & Easter.

Barkley is down to 3.2% ownership. His ownership at the start was huge. The Metrician observed last year that 40% were inactive by the latter part of the season.

Fab > Ramsey when he's fit again will release a lot of cash without compromising quality. Ramsey still had all the stats even though he went on a thin run for a while before his injury.

Not bad obi. Will take it on board.
Just hating not having ADM at the moment. He's so frustrating to not own, and watching his rubbish shots being deflected in for assists. But Man U do have tough fixtures ahead and hopefully they will struggle

First year taking this seriously and I am doing OK so far just outside top 10k.

Not sure whether I should be using my wildcard this week. As with most people my main issue is whether to keep Aguero or not. Ownership is still low and he looked very sharp against Villa.

    Current team

    DDG (Myhill)

    PVA Colocini Taylor Wisdom Vlaar

    Tadic ADM Sigg Haz Marney

    Aguero Costa Pelle

    1FT and 0 ITB
If no injuries over Int Break I would go Vlaar => Hutton
Need to get Colocini out as well.
Keeping the WC and Aguero keeps me flexible though

If I was to WC I would be looking at the below

    Foster (Myhill)

Bertrand Baines Azpi (Wisdom & Hutton)

    Sterling Sigg Haz ADM (Isgrove)

    Pelle Costa Welbeck

Again leaving 0.0 ITB - with this I lack City cover and will be hard to make any moves in the next few weeks without taking a hit. I have spent more time this week looking at it than in the previous 2 months combined I would think and I'm at a loss with what to do.

    Cheers for any advice

I dont think either will be given the chance. Ozil was so good in the no.10 role and then was booted out wide again where he performed dreadfully. Mata will always be second best to Rooney unless theres a long term layoff where he can prove himself. Dont think 2 games will be enough

    Baines-----?????-----Clyne

    ADM---Siggy----Mane---FAB---Sterling

    ----Costa------Welbeck-------

Who to put in 3rd spot for defence.... Duff---Shawcross------Blackett.

Shawcross would mean doubling up on Stoke defence which has only benfited me once this season...

I have Ulloa in subs too can;t see him doing anything this weekend and would have taken him out only for I brought Baines in and diddn't want to take a hit.

Who do you think is the best single/combo GK rotation to go with?

Mine is currently Begovic but I'm seriously considering switching to Adrian next week.

I'm on a WC and going with combo of bego, fab - expensive but very good rotation up until jan wc.

After next week a cheap single GK setup might be Guzan/Given? Gets you almost through to Jan WC with reasonable fixtures.

      Guzan/Foster for my money.

Have 2FT and (assuming no international injuries) not many ideas what to do, any advice?

    Krulliot
    Ivan Bertrand Hutton Moore Duff
    AdM Siggy Sterling Fab
    Aguero Costa Ulloa
    1.2 itb.

Thinking about calling time on the Ulloa punt and punting on someone else. I'm 0.3 short of Welbeck, so thinking either Cisse, Sakho or Berahino? If Welbeck, not sure how I could make that 0.3, not much fat there to trim?

Sterling to someone like Eriksen for a few weeks? That has its dangers, though Liverpool look poor at the moment. Maybe they'll pick up when Sturridge returns, but that won't raise you 0.3.

Isn't Sturridge predicted to be back for QPR? Sterling's definitely the weaker of them at the moment though yeah, it's a possibilty.

Thwarted again - there's always Azpilicueta - he's having a good year and you'll generate some useful cash.

    a) Sakho + Baines

    b) Welbeck + Shawcross

RMT please guys. 0.4 ITB. WC still intact

    Foster Krul
    Baines Clyne Chester Wisdom Hutton
    Fabregas Sterling Sigurdsson Eriksen Neymar
    Costa Welbeck Aguero

No ADM obviously but hoping that Baines and Aguero can do the business.
Looking to downgrade Krul and Chester ASAP and look out for Walcott incoming and or Hazard

I want to get baines in over the next few weeks. Would these transfers spread over a couple of gameweeks be worth it?

    Courtouis --> schmeichel
    Alderweireld --> Moore
    Naylor --> baines

Alot of talk regards to Wallys return.

But who out of the Arsenal team will lose their place when he's fit and back in the team (assuming he will get his place back of course)

So as everyone here is getting Baines and int he end most people here fill up the top 10k I think I need to get him in so is Fab and Dummett to Chadli and Baines a reasonable thing to do?

There are over 22,000 players in the FFS league, and only about 700 of them are currently in the top 10k.

Most of the players in my Top 10k Any Season mini-league have only finished in the top 10k once or twice, and only 5 out of 38 are currently in the top 10k.

Also, in the FFS Mods and Contributors mini-league, only 2 out of 26 are currently in the top 10k.

Personally, I'd keep Fabs....Very consistant and delivers week in week out. Will Chadli continue???

Is there another way to get Baines? Maybe youshould post your team and ppl could advise other options for you.

I'm surprised quite so many people are getting him.
I see him as a luxury player who I can afford because I don't have Aguero.
I wouldn't tear apart your midfield for him.

    RMT...

    --------Bego-----------
    Baines-----?????-----Clyne

    ADM---Siggy----Mane---FAB---Sterling

    ----Costa------Welbeck-------

Who to put in 3rd spot for defence.... Duff---Shawcross------Blackett.

Shawcross would mean doubling up on Stoke defence which has only benfited me once this season...

I have Ulloa in subs too can;t see him doing anything this weekend and would have taken him out only for I brought Baines in and diddn't want to take a hit......

How much money do you have?
Chambers could be good from next week if you don't mind a yellow every game.
Bertrand is good for the next five if you don't mind doubling up.
It's difficult to see anyone else before you hit £6m (Azpi,/Mangala).
