The flat-track bully can be the scourge of Fantasy managers. A hat-trick at home followed by several blank Gameweeks and then, just as you lose patience and get-rid, along comes another huge goal return and the inevitable 3 Bonus Points.

Take, for example, Dimitar Berbatov. Transferred in by over 200K managers last season on the back of a three goal, 17 point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul at home to Liverpool in Gameweek five, the Bulgarian’s next seven appearances harvested just 19 points. By the time Berbatov ran out at Old Trafford at home to Blackburn in Gameweek fifteen, 379K managers had sold him since the match against Roy Hodgson’s side.

Much to the regret of his sellers, Berbatov, of course, then proceeded to hit five past Rovers, picking up 25 FPL points for a day’s work. The following game week? He was dropped.

By the season end, Berbatov had accumulated 176 FPL points, which offered up an average of 5.5 per game. That’s not a true reflection of his season, however; too many times the Bulgarian produced little to nothing in 2010/11, with 15 of his 21 FPL goals coming in just five games.

The question is, then, how often did he return this 5.5 average over the course of his 32 appearances for Man United?

Our aim is to look at the idea of Fantasy consistency- those players who week -in, week-out can be counted on to offer solid returns for your Fantasy team. We turn our attention to the top-scoring players in each classification to examine just how reliable some of them turned out to be in 2010/11. Up first in our analysis are goalkeepers.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Now I can understand getting the likes of Cech or Hart etc, but having a keeper from one of the big sides obviously restricts you to only two outfield players.
I think I'm going with the majority and I'll keep Given and Foster.

I still think Given and Foster is too much to invest in players who will rarely score higher than 6.

I'd spend 9 million tops on keepers.

I started well last season when I had Foster, but when I played the wildcard I got two shitter keepers to save cash. Got bugger all from them all season, so I'd be happy enough with a regular 6 points. Worth the extra 1m in my opinion.

    Hi all,

    Arsenal XI v Benfica, Arsenal look like they've started using this formation;

4-2-3-1: Szczesny - Sagna, Djourou, Vermaelen, Gibbs - Song, Rosicky - Gervinho, Ramsey, Arshavin - Van Persie.

I'd say 1. Duff is consistent but low attacking points. Sess could be a winner but there's a few harder games thrown into their opening fixtures. I'll be watching Aguero, a lot will depend on Tevez being confirmed gone.

I'd steer clear of doubling up on Wigan. Great opening fixtures but for attacking players. Those promoted sides will be all-out to score.
Potential doubt over Mignolet being first choice.
Murphy limited attacking points, may not need him and Zamora, could go Moses instead.

Evening all. This is my first post this season and I'd appreciate some feedback on the following team.

    Given (Ruddy)

    Kompany/Luiz/Hughes (Wilkinson/De Laet)

    Malouda/Silva/Taarabt/Moses (Sinclair)

    Rodallaga/Rooney/Suarez

I'm not sure whether to change my front three around as I've been reading Suarez maybe a risk for the first game. I could change Suarez > Bent or Zamora and take advantage of their good early fixtures. Bent would mean downgrading elsewhere to raise .5 though.
Any thoughts about this guys? Also, any general feedback appreciated.

Hughes to Alcaraz would get you the .5, and Wigan has a 'soft' 3 fixture start. But seeing as how you already have 2 Wig's, perhaps forget the Hughes and go to Zamora.

Actually, if you're going to get Bent, find another .5 and start the Drogs.

Yeah if rumours persist avoid Suarez to start, obviously have the option of swapping in Carroll. For me, the Liverpool games aren't good enough for them to be in my starting team. I'm gonna get Bent for the fixtures.

Well I think Luiz is too much of a rotation risk for a start, especially for 6.5, so there's an option.
Also, personally I'd avoid United until their games get better, so rather than Rooney and Rodallega, I'd rather have Bent and Holt. But Rooney looks to be keeping his end-of-season form, so he could be great despite the fixtures.
If you want to cut back money anywhere, I'd say Luiz.

I think when the side settles down, he will end up our forward left player, out of the midfield - so therefore - Anelka.

If AVB can sort out 2 up top (Drogba/Torres), Malouda will play left flank all year no rotation.

Imo, the first choice midfield with their rotator:

      When 3 in the mid:
      Benayoun (Ramires)
      Mikel (McEachren)
      Lampard (no rotation)

      When 4 in the mid:

      Benayoun (Ramires)
      Mikel/McEachren (Ramires)
      Lampard (no rotation)
      Malouda (no rotation)

      Bring on the season!

Based on today's game mate, add Sturridge to that... AVB still tinkering there, and Daniel did no harms to his own place in that support role to Drog/Torres if they end up needing to fly solo to be effective.

If you looking at Malouda like money in the mid, downgrade someone and stick with Frank mate.

Some suggest he will be more holding, but it's a myth. Mikel and McEacheren will share the holding role for us this year, although Mikel off injured today :/

His quality is not in doubt. Whether he starts the season on the bench or the pitch remains to be seen. The lad will score goals all right, plenty.

Personally? I think he'll turn out to be a must own.

      Poor.

Dempsey, Huth, Enrique (won't make his move before GW 1) need to be scrapped. You're still taking risks with Moses and Johnson, but they could be worth it unlike the other 3.

I'd spend some time fixing it up if you're leaving before deadline and choosing players who are a little bit safer seeing as you won't have the luxury of choosing closer to the time.

and ignore my RMT that i will inevitably post at some point this evening, i know you already gave it a once-over. 🙂

first time since monday morning i will have posted it, apologies to all the RMT haters here, less than a week to go, hang in there. plenty of repetitive posts to come once the season starts.

      or both?

surely others have him in their current draft but only if he moves to pool in time for GW1?

Just what is needed - a pointless friendly against Holland before the season to kick off for players to pick up niggles.

    Good ole goalie stats.

It's interesting, but I feel Cech will be easily the best keeper to have this year. Chelsea will have the best defense in the league.

If I were to choose one keeper, it'd be Cech, but saving money for outfield players takes precedence, so I guess I'll just stick with Given.

People considered rotating Kenny and Swansea goalie (Vorm?) They rotate perfectly the whole season.

    Cheap too.

      Absolutely not.

Even if he has a good season, he's playing in a role typically taken by Walcott or Arshavin. He's a terrible fantasy prospect. An OoP the wrong way, and it's his first season adapting to English football.

    OK, 2 points:

1 - The latest blog post headline is about goalkeepers; I then read the rest of the post & it is all about Berbatov, a striker! Then as its about to talk about keepers, it cuts out, members only...

What a load of crap. I am not a member & I never will be. Foolish adverts like this post is sad & desperate.

2 - Someone above said that he wouldnt pay £7m for a keeper, as they only ever score 6 points. I will break it down for you... Cole & Terry cost £7.5m, Cech costs £7m. Who scored more points last season???? Cech!

If you take a player from a position, divide his total points last year by his cost = his value. I find that in most cases, keepers offer the best value, then defenders.

So, I ask the question, is it better to get a strong back 4 & a quality keeper??

The Berbatov example used in the post was to highlight player consistency and explain it's definition for the purposes of analyses.

Re defences: Goalies and defenders are the lowest point scorers in the game. So in answer to your question, no, cheap and relatively nasty is best imvho.
