The flat-track bully can be the scourge of Fantasy managers. A hat-trick at home followed by several blank Gameweeks and then, just as you lose patience and get-rid, along comes another huge goal return and the inevitable 3 Bonus Points.

Take, for example, Dimitar Berbatov. Transferred in by over 200K managers last season on the back of a three goal, 17 point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul at home to Liverpool in Gameweek five, the Bulgarian’s next seven appearances harvested just 19 points. By the time Berbatov ran out at Old Trafford at home to Blackburn in Gameweek fifteen, 379K managers had sold him since the match against Roy Hodgson’s side.

Much to the regret of his sellers, Berbatov, of course, then proceeded to hit five past Rovers, picking up 25 FPL points for a day’s work. The following game week? He was dropped.

By the season end, Berbatov had accumulated 176 FPL points, which offered up an average of 5.5 per game. That’s not a true reflection of his season, however; too many times the Bulgarian produced little to nothing in 2010/11, with 15 of his 21 FPL goals coming in just five games.

The question is, then, how often did he return this 5.5 average over the course of his 32 appearances for Man United?

Our aim is to look at the idea of Fantasy consistency- those players who week -in, week-out can be counted on to offer solid returns for your Fantasy team. We turn our attention to the top-scoring players in each classification to examine just how reliable some of them turned out to be in 2010/11. Up first in our analysis are goalkeepers.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

No mate never lie where betting is concerned, people might follow. I bet everyday on all leagues from around the world. I thought, well he played half of last season and got like 17-18 thereabouts, and that was back after a bad injury. Reason he gets injured as he is own his own. Defenders are like nail him and we got it cushdy.

A little from each win going towards it. I got in ages ago with Torres was fav (nuts). Its a risk with injury, but if he completes 75% of season and Arsenal dont sell all players I thought good season sweat.

Most bookies. Think he was like 6-7. Suarez was 20-22/1 with 365 and PP. down to like 12's now after copa performance.

Rooney, Torres and Pea are equal at 8/1 now with PP nad RVP is 9/1. RVP wont be rotated, takes pens & free kicks (as u well know).

Preaching to the choir, mate. On form, RVP is easily the best striker in the League - he had a run last season that wasn't funny.

BUT... you know Rooney's gonna give you 32-35 games. RVP could be anything from three to 25.

Muck to be fair mate. Ivan is still iffy start as went off at villa, rooney tough fixtures, aguero new to prem and british lifestyle. O'hara not as good as tar/sin, zamora b4 johnson and takes freekicks (great score/assist to games although indicates a low score total).

Kathy the mental health "professional" makes fun of me/laughs at me/blanks me/rolls her eyes when i am speaking in support group.
I think i am something like external representation of shadow self for her cos she likes to see herself as positive/pro active/personable/perky/warm/friendly and how i present is opposite to that- i am very depressed. She doesn't want to see apparent helplessness/depressiveness/bitterness in the face of loss cost she likes to see herself as coping with dignity maturity with her losses. Seems as if she wants me to feel spitefulness that she has experienced from universe with her losses. She seems to see me as someone pathetic/wilful/deviant so she can allow herself to expend her snobbish brash bratty bitchy state on me - must be difficult practicing lovingkindness and minimising ego always. Its not very professional to suggest your client attend/offer lift to your meditation centre or ask if they have money to pay for courses run by your buddhist group.

Andy did a very good article yesterday that suggested that defenders are going to have to put in one hell of a game to get a sniff of bonus under the new EA system.

Its really made me rethink my spending up top. I'd advise he same. Baines A Cole and Kompany is jsut crazy...much better to invest in upgrading one of taarabt, sinclair or moses to a proven midfield goal and assist machine.

to continue the topic i brought up on previous page, Top 20 rankings of PPI last season, only one NOT from top 6 club:

    Odemwingie

Also on average last year, when Arteta was fit, still averages less than Baines in PPI.

I think Baines is worth his price tag. And after a few weeks when albion fixtures improve, odemwingie looks to be a must have.

any love for baines Jonty? I see you are not convinced by paying alot for defenders. Im thinking Baines, Ko, Bramble, Simpson and another 4.0 is the way to go.

as soon as i want to cut ties with baines i can transfer to any other defender and have money in the bank to upgrade elsewhere. namely one of my 4 risky front 8 of taarabt, sinclair, moses and holt.

At the moment I've got A Cole kompany (rotating Fulham/New/sun)

Am very tempted to axe A cole...go for someone like samba and distin instead and spend that 2m on going for an awesome frontline of Rooney and RVP. Not sure yet.

I have a lot of love for Baines tho'...jsut think 8m is alot . If Everton can keep a few cleanies then I'll be all over him...but while his attacking and assist potential is strong is it stronger than say Malouda or Downing or Young...at that price that is who is competing against.

i just dont think you can put a monetary value on what baines does at his position. at tehe end of the day its 1.5-2.0 than another top defender youd pay to start every week. I can shave .5 here and there to pay for that if i choose wisely. right now ive got 8.5 in keepers. if i break even there, that .5-1.5 mil saved to many managers whos spent 9-10 mil. am i to think im instantly worse than all those teams? I would hoe not!!!!

I must confess I'm a little drunk...I'm going to reassess my defence tomorrow. Vidic/Baines or a Chelsea defender will all be in my thinking. Only one will get the honour of being part of team Jonty tho.

that may be where holt could bite me, if i want to get rid id have to raise funds gradually elsewhere or lose one of my top 2 forwards when they may be in form. But 2 cheapie strikers from promoted clubs last year did quite nicely, Carroll and Wingie, and it would appear Holt has the best chance out of the current lot to provide returns (though to be fair, not at the level of carroll and wingie did, but still exceeding value and providing a legitimate starting option.

None at all. The wingers will get rotated, so will the defence bar Vidic and he's too expensive.

Not many what i'd call "fpl prospects" in midfield either. Anderson could be good if he keeps starting though

7.0 Hart with 18 Cleanies last year @ 4 points each.
If there was a 7.0 striker that would get 18 goals at 4 points each and play every minute would he be a must have?

You can't really work like that though. Chances are that spending slightly less on a goalkeeper won't lose you as many points as spending slightly less on a striker.

So if you have 12m to spend on a striker and goalkeeper, chances are you'll do better with a 5m goalie and 7m striker than the other way around.

      more involved in set pieces

      more inclined for bonus IMO

and both have potential to fill the roles of last years promoted midfield darlings; Adam, Brunt, Nolan and Barton.

What about the following for GK's:

    Cech (Ruddy)

Logic is to play Cech all the time
If he gets injured its easy to ship out for anyone
removes the choice of rotating keepers and getting it wrong
    nailed on to start
provides chelsea defensive cover saving 0.5m on other nailed on candidates

Anyone else thinking of leaving out Chelsea attacking players right now and seeing what team AVB chooses for GW1?

Away to Stoke isn't exactly a walk in the park and unless he does an Ancelotti and tells us his line-up on a Friday afternoon it's a lot of money to pay for an outfield player that may only play 45 mins or less.
