Think they got a bit tangled up tbf. Still I loved it, even if it was a bit difficult to grasp and they only ever answer your questions with more questions.
I think the endless quest for answers was what kept you coming back. For me one of the best TV programs ever. I can understand why others didn't like it though. You needed to properly watch it to appreciate it and be patient because it may take a long time to find out more about a plot point

i've quit after 2 seasons. it was obvious that the makers didn't have a clue how the story would end
They tied it together mostly in the end. all the random stuff like polar bears got explained
Most of the stuff is explained just have to give it time and focus...
Even if you don't quite get the main story you can still easily enjoy the mysteries, characters, backgrounds and action.
It gets worse with each series and ends terribly, so you saved yourself there.
