After reviewing the Goalkeepers and Defenders, the third instalment in our series of Members articles looking at Fantasy consistency sees midfielders come under the microscope.

Aiming to highlight those players who week-in, week-out offer solid returns, we’ve looked at the top ten midfielders for points per game in 2010/11 and analysed their scores in terms of reliability. While the likes of Rafael Van der Vaart impresses in his debut season, there’s plenty room for Florent Malouda -despite his overall haul of 186- to improve his consistency for Chelsea this upcoming season.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Hi lads , just wondering does anyone know if Senderos has been featuring much in pre-season and if it looks likely he’ll get game time under Martin Jol ?

they had 2 qualifiers, both over 2 legs. in the first legs senderos didn't play, they won about 3-0 each time and then senderos played in both second legs. conclusion: not worth it.
however in the final friendly he played with baird on the bench so althought just 1 match a potential sign considering baird was on the bench. conclusion: ballsy gamble as it was only one match but at 4.5 and a slight goal threat one to keep an eye on

    Al-Habsi (Given)
Baines Lescott R Johnson (De Laet S Taylor)
    Silva Ramsey Taarabt Sessegnon Moses
    RVP Bent (DJ Campbell)

1 million in the bank. Plan is to update one of the midfield to Benayoun once it's confirmed that he will be a big hitter in the Chelsea midfield. Or not if he isn't. Possible/probable downgrading of Baines to Terry's partner in their defence once that becomes clearer too.

Any feedback would be very helpful and gratefully appreciated.

    Cheers.

With Fabregas not fit/being wrapped in cotton wool so as to not jeopardise any unanticipated transfer, I see Sessegnon as the biggest gamble in the starting lineup. Notwithstanding glass ankles.

I'm not trying to suggest he won't play, just that teams who buy many new players usually take a while to gel so I see any Sunderland player as a risk early doors.

police forces all over the country are sending their men down to london....they cant keep that presence up for a long period and that means the other cities will be low on crowd control....it is a wait and see but i will not be suprised at all if games are called off, football is after all jus a game and public/property protection will be the only consideration but like guys have said its a wait and see.....could make some squads useless if games are called off

I cant understand the logic of Wenger. he bids 10 million for Jagielka (a year after bidding 12m, and being refused) he then refuses to up bid and pays 12m for a 17 year old winger. Surely arsenal fans are getting fed up? looking like nasri and fab out, and apart from gervinho (who isnt, lets be fair a guaranteed successful signing), no major purchases.

I agree. I read it was £12 + £3 million for Chamberlain. As an Arsenal fan I'm glad to welcome young talent but the most obvious weakness is the centre-back.

Gervinho looks good but he's not going to turn things around. I want Fabregas to go, I'm getting bored of the saga and I wouldn't want someone in the team who doesn't want to be there.

I'd be gutted to lose Nasri but I suppose it gives Wilshere and Ramsey a chance to shine.

Get me Mata and Jagielka and I'll be happy. Not sure if Samba would fit in well to our style of play.

Year upon year of good football and nothing to show for it. Year upon year of Wenger not pulling his finger out and splashing out cash to keep up with our rivals.

Vermaelen's back but the rest of them are pants. Djourou played well for about a month but has since made mistake after mistake. I like Koscielny but he needs to do more if we're to threaten the top four.

Paying stadiums requires vast long-term sponsorship deals and loans of the sort that wouldn't be available for players (probably because they're of less value and more risk).

indeed, not going to pretend i know the ins and outs of it all but it's good to put it in perspective. by spending more they'd be spending more than chelsea and man city, albeit man city's spending has been more a blitz in the last few years.
they'll be fine. obviously abramovic and sheik mansour rocking up since arsenal built the emirates has made things a lot harder then they anticipated

Just a quick correction, Arsenal bid twice for Jagielka this summer. The first was £10 million, which is fine considering Jagielka's stock has fallen in the last year, then made a second bid of £14-ish mil that was again rejected.

AOC's deal is only going to be £12 million if he makes appearances, etc, for club & country. Right now it's £5 million.

Wenger takes too much flack for Arsenal's transfer dealings. Sure, he identifies targets, and I'm sure he has a say in the negotiation process, but he's not alone in that process. Arsenal employ Ivan Gazidis for something, but I'm not entirely sure if he's doing it very well (if at all).

I decided no. Lots of people on this site talk about having one player to cover a side, bolstering your chance to get goal or assist points, and advise against two. Same logic not to have NZog and Bent, though it really depends on how many goals you think the side will score. Do you have your eye on a big-ticket scorer on another topflight team? That could determine a midfield or strike swap. I like Nani over Rooney, personally, but many think the other way because of possible Nani rotation.

Why ditch Salgado? Blackburn have a good defence and he is going to start at RB in every match.

Can you suggest anyone better than Tiote and Lita? Not spoiled for choice with either as they are the only 4.5 that look like they might start

Blackburn have a reasonable defence when Samba plays. He's an injury doubt if he doesn't get transferred. And Salgado has a bus pass.
Surman or Vuckik provide much better attacking options than Tiote who will probably be suspended for the 6th game.
Can't help with a 4.5 striker though. If you can find a million DJ Campbell or Holt might actually score you some points though. Maybe downgrade Rafael to a guaranteed 4.0 starter?

Will Vuckic even start for Newcastle? preseason form means nothing.

Surman is interesting, but barely played for Wolves. admittedly i'm not knowledgeable about the newly promoted sides.

Wouldn't Rafael be a better bet to score points than a DJ Campbell? assist potential at RB and greater likelihood of clean sheets. Rotation risk is there, but there is no dearth of quality at the 5.5 range, easy to chop and change.

Admittedly I have no idea what's going on at Newcastle.

Surman has had injury problems but should be integral to the way Norwich play if he stays fit.

I would have agreed before I saw how well Smalling played at RB. I guess it boils down to what formation you're happiest playing. I usually go for a 3-4-3 and find I have a defender I rarely use so tend to pick a 4.0 who might scrape me 2pts if needed as an emergency sub. Some people like to only play 2 up front and have their 3rd striker play a similar role.

    How does this look?

    Given - Kenny
    Lescott - Kompany - Bramble/Brown - Orr - Simpson
    Malouda - Silva - Sessegnon - O'Hara - Moses
    Rooney - Bent - Holt
    0.5 in the bank

    Justifications:
    - Given and Kenny the safe, Home and Away rotation in Goal with decent fixtures.
    - Lescott clean sheet & goal threat GW1, then transfer to Chelsea defender who looks nailed on for starts after their form against Stoke with the 0.5
    - Bramble/Brown depending on who's more assured of starts, they also rotate beautifully with QPR & Newcastle
    - Spread attacking coverage over front 8, with no unproven midfielders (barring Moses, who should be in everyone's team)
    - Sessegnon playing as a striker and O'Hara wolves main man.
    - Rooney fitter than glass legs RVP
    - Can't support Villa without having our main striker in my team ie. Bent (has terrific fixtures to back up selection and like him over N'Zogbia)
    - Holt my only promoted side attacker. Hoping he's the Andy Carroll of this season. In everything that Norwich does and has Wigan, WBA, Bolton, Sunderland, Swansea, Blackburn in first 10 weeks.

Have I gone majorly wrong anywhere?

I've gone down a slightly different path but definitely had all of those thoughts at different times. Can't fault your logic at all. The only thing I would say is I get the impression that Orr might not be a guaranteed starter. Warnock has experimented quite a bit with full-backs in their friendlies. I do think he's good value if he plays though.

If Suarez is out, Carroll. If you have N'Zogbia, Carroll. Otherwise I'd personally go with Bent but it's debatable.

    RMT

    Al-Habsi (Moreira)

Kolarov Rafael Jose Enrique (Gabbidon, Distin)

    Nani, Vdv, N-zogz, O,hara (Moses)

    Drogba, Bothroyd, Carrol

i did have persie and suarez instead of the big 2 up front and malouda could be an option instead of vdv. has anyone got any comments on my team?? thanks

      Get Given instead of Al-Habsi.

Kolarov was a major disappointment fantasy-wise last season. Rafael may not play that much due to rotation.

VdV looks to be injured this week. Definitely bring in Malouda.

Forwards aren't bad, but don't nkow about bothroyd.

I'll pick of VDV later in the season, not to start.

Rafael a risk for rotation, Enrique a risk - only willing to go Simpson for Newcastle because most dependable 4.0

      I'm going 6.0 5.0 4.5 4.0 4.0 for defense.

You can upgrade keeper, 3rd striker, 4th/5th midfielder with that money.

I'm finding ACole is the pivot point between two teams. I try to keep him in, I weaken my scoring. But then I want dependable Chelsea D to start. He's in my team now, but I will probably lose him by the start of the season. DO NOT BUY FERGUSON.

Drogba or Bent anyone... I have malouda and he is staying in no matter what and if i get drogs will get nzog for villa cover.

I've heard bent could be better for bonus though that N'Zog.

I'd go Bent if you already have Malouda..
But Drogba is a bargin tho. Jus hope Torres stops being mediocre - either be a gun or sit on the bench - so it makes our decision easier

yeh exactly. I can see them being rotated alot early and torres looked sharper against Rangers so maybe drog is one to avoid. After all, if you pay 8 upwards u want a certain starter and drogba isnt that at the moment.
