After reviewing the Goalkeepers and Defenders, the third instalment in our series of Members articles looking at Fantasy consistency sees midfielders come under the microscope.

Aiming to highlight those players who week-in, week-out offer solid returns, we’ve looked at the top ten midfielders for points per game in 2010/11 and analysed their scores in terms of reliability. While the likes of Rafael Van der Vaart impresses in his debut season, there’s plenty room for Florent Malouda -despite his overall haul of 186- to improve his consistency for Chelsea this upcoming season.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Just a thought but would like all your opinion,

Is it stupid to make a team purely for the first 2-4 GWs and then wildcard after?

Was just thinking that it would get your team off to a great start and it would allow you to see the inform players after 3 weeks e.g which city/chelsea striker is starting and which bandwagons look good (Moses, Sess, Taarabt)

That's a great tactic. Been mine for the two seasons I've competed. Last season I wildcarded even earlier than the season before - with great success.

No it isn't stupid, it's just a bit risky. I'm trying to steer a middle ground between capitalising on the first 4 and not leaving myself in a position where I HAVE to WC after 4.

same, want to be able to get out alive after the first 4 weeks and save my wildcard, mainly because I was so jealous of others who had one later on haha

+100! Im doing the same. At first I thought about the set up the team for the first 3 gws option, but Chelsea have great fixtures even beyond the first 3 gws and so do Villa. Its only really Wigan and I think Sunderland who have great fixtures gw 2 and gw 3.

You could load up your team with Chelsea, Wigan, Villa, Fulham and Sunderland and Everton but you'd more than likely be keeping many of those players for a while if they do do well(i.e Sess, Bent, Nzogbia, Baines) so you might not have to WC at all and just make 1 or 2 changes!

A waste of a wildcard IMO where the only purposes is to gain a little money. The extra value is worth surprisingly little in the way of higher points.

This is what I did last year, but only because it was the first time I had played FPL and my starting team was so cack.

Another good WC strategy seems to be to use them in pairs - create a brand new team with the first one when there are some attractive DGW fixtures involving teams you might not normally cover, and then the second one a week or so later, to sort the team out again.

depends how lucky you are with your startling line-up I guess.

    Hey guys, please RMT…

    Given, Ruddy
Lescott, Cole, Simpson, Orr, N Taylor
    Nani, Silva, N’Zogbia, Sessegnon, Moses
    Drogba, Carroll, DJ

Bank 0.5m. If Suarez is confirmed starting then is it an idea to downgrade Carroll to leave 1.0m in the bank for a GW2 transfer (perhaps Silva -> Malouda)?

Not really, it's all just very monor tweaks. My defs are:

          Kompany, Cole, Simpson, Orr, Bramble

other than that we are the same. Having said that, an hour ago I have Bent & Malouda rather than Nani & Drogs.

Yeah, i had Malouda in place of Nani until the post Charity Shield kneejerk... I'm tempted to use my spare 0.5m to upgrade one of my 4.0m defenders - would be Bramble or Senderos. You reckon do this or keep the extra 0.5m in the bank?

Is drogba certain to start??? I think Roman will want his star signing to start the season rather than drogba. I feeling safer getting some coverage from the midfield, though thats not so easy either!

He's been pushed up behind the striker, so is *arguably* OOP, and he's been doing well there pre-season. I think he's a bit much myself particularly given the first fixture - 6.5 feels a lot for a player you will rotate.

Formica is bizarre selection IF you're going to bench him GW1 - GW1 is about as good as it gets for Blackburn. Briggs probably won't play, Ruddy AND De Laet is a bit too much Norwich - maybe go with Orr over De Laet, Bosingwa rotation risk, Richards rotation risk.

lots of risks there, you can try and have a different team but don't get carried away.

Briggs doesn't look like he's gonna start unfortunately, he was in my team for ages, but unfortunately Etuhu has kept his midfield place as Dempsey came back, which was the only chance of grabbing starting XI.

I see Bosingwa has been starting, but I wouldn't want to risk that myself 😕

I'm getting a bit puzzled by the lack of communication on the site about the possibility of games being cancelled. As far as I can see there's been no official word on it and Fantasy Managers really need to get their strategy to deal with varying levels of cancellation sorted out.

If, for example, there are only 4 or 5 fixtures happenning this weekend (and we should know by the deadline, after all), would the right strategy be to make sure that only four members of your starting squad came from the cancelled matches, and then bench ll of them for week 1?

If there's no official information, what are you suggesting happens? Guessing? You can guess as well as anyone else.

      Let's wait for the facts.

I guess this is a fair point, but in most situations the site favours a "go with the information as it comes" and make educated guesses about futurue possibilities as you go. Protracted transfer sagas for instance.

        I enjoy this approach.

Sorry, I meant to say "all", as in, bench all four players that you have picked from the cancelled matches, assuming here that one is a goalkeeper.

There's a meeting tomorrow to decide if any games will be called off.

Originally they said London teams, but now it's spread, it could mean them all being postponed.

I guess it'll be just like when games are postponed, you look at the following fixtures and plan accordingly.

Sorry, I apologise everyone for my lack of clarity, and what must have seemed like a lack of empathy for the situation. Obviously no-one from the police e.t.c. should see football as a priority,

I mean why haven't the Scout posted anything regarding the possible cancellations. As far as I can see all of our pre-season plans are facing the possiility of going out of the window, and time is of the essence, and the top post here is, and has been for some time, an analysis of the most consistent midfielders last year.

What about a post outlining various possibilitieis (London matches cancelled, London and Birmingham matches cancelled, all big city matches cancelled), and a way to capitalise as an eager Fantasy Manager.

Can do it for ourselves of course, but if Fantasy Football Scout is for anything isn't that the sort of thing?

Until the police and FA meet on Thursday Jonah nobody knows what the situation on any game/s is. If things generally quieten down tonight there could be a chance all games on.We will have a much better idea Friday, anything said before the meeting is guesswork and therefore pointless. 🙂

        Totally agree with this.

Loved the comment of 'surely everyone has their own strategy', if that was true then why are you on ffs? You're here to get inside tips and advice about over and above your own knowledge.

The biggest thing right now isn't whether you get Moses, Tarrabat or Sess, its are half the games getting called off, which games are most likely to go ahead, and who are the key players in those games.

Obviously a lot of speculation involved in any analysis, but still useful..

    Opinions on team here

personally I don't think Tevez will leave so I want to keep him in the team

    Given (swansea keeper when signed)

    Gorkss Hill Hughes Baines (Jagielka)

    Taarabt Sinclair N'Zogbia (Vaughan) (Davies)

    Tevez Bent Carroll

people in ()'s are subs for first week. I am considering a few transfers,
tevez/vaughan/davies&baines for holt/(young or nani)/silva and (hangeland or dunne). I'm really not too good at this game so help would be great! Looked at first few fixtures and based it around that

Been tinkering for the first time in 2 weeks (was bliss to ignore it!). Current team looks like

    Given Kenny
    Baines Luiz Kompany Hughes Simpson
    Silva Sess OHara Moses Tarabt
    Caroll Bent Zamora
    0.5m in bank.

Want to bring in Malouda for silva on wk2, but would need an extra 0.5m to do so... i know i have a lot of cash in defence but plan to wildcard after wk3 and those big money defenders are great bets for the first 3 weeks.

    What are my options?
Risk Suarez instead of Carroll; or
Downgrade Tarabt to Ben Arfa; or
Downgrade Bobby Z to DJ Campbell to get an extra +1.5m!
