Fernando Torres is an early doubt for Chelsea’s weekend trip to Stoke after reportedly suffering concussion whilst playing for Spain this evening.

The striker lined up for the Spanish against Italy in tonight’s friendly but lasted just 14 minutes before being forced off with a head injury.

Medical staff are expected to examine Torres before offering a further assessment. Already they are insisting that his withdrawal was purely a precaution.

However, if Torres has suffered concussion, he would seem likely to be forced to sit out of the trip to Britannia.

There are already doubts over Andre Villas-Boas’ team selection for Sunday’s game with Torres unable to take his opportunity to impress in the pre-season. Didier Drogba’s physical presence against Tony Pulis’ muscular outfit may well have been preferred regardless of the availability of the £50 million Spaniard.

Drogba was also in action tonight, scoring his 50th international goal via a penalty in Ivory Coast’s 4-3 victory against Israel in Geneva.

Torres is currently owned by over 88,000 Fantasy Premier League managers – Drogba currently claims almost double that figure.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Dunno if this is common knowledge or not, but has anyone else come across "OptaJoe" on twitter before... it's basically the Opta guys tweeting various different stats, often related in some way to current footballing affairs. Worth a look. Got the stats I posted about Obertan from there, as well as the following:

David de Gea conceded 11 goals from outside the box last season, more than any other goalkeeper in La Liga.

Kevin Davies created the most goalscoring chances (91) from open play in the Premier League in 2010/11.

Since 2006/07, only 8 midfielders have provided more assists than Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Robin Van Persie scored a goal every 98 minutes on average last season.

From Opta Joes page, exactly why I won't be getting Obertan

Gabriel Obertan's PL career: 14 games, 4 starts, 0 goal, 0 assist, 4 shots on target, 7 off target.

Is there a tool/spread sheet available anywhere where you can enter your 15 man team so you can easily look ahead at future game weeks and see who your 11 man team will be playing against to help spot any glaring mistakes?
Very much like ratemyteam.co.uk but with the opponents instead of potential points?

First of all, sorry for the RMTs but aside from RVP to Drogs if he is confirmed injured, please cast your expert eyes over these two teams. The first is the current, the second is an attempt to get Nani in there...

    Given (Ruddy)
    Cashley, Kompany, Enrique (Simpson, Gabbidon)
    Malouda, Downing, Taarabt, Moses (Sessegnon)
    RVP, Bent, Holt

    OR...

    Given (Ruddy)
Cashley, Kompany, Gabbidon, (Simpson, De laet)
    Malouda, Nani, Jarvis, Taarabt (Moses)
    RVP, Bent, Holt

    What do you all reckon?

Anyone have any comments about the following line up? I am torn between this line up and downgrading Drogba for Zamora and upgrading Johnson for Malouda.

Goal Keepers and Defence are standard issue: Given Kompany Cole etc so not going to post.

Mid: Nani, Sessegnon, N'Zogbia, Johnson (MANC), Moses

    Fwd: Carroll(C), Drogba(VC), Holt

    2.0 mil in bank

Malouda is the Chelsea attacker to have in my book.

Johnson of ManCity? Terrible choice considering rotation.

I'd go Malouda for Johnson and downgrade Drogba.

          For the moment, yes.

Silva is definitely the standout option from City as it stands. If you can't fit him in, so be it.

Save money for a big striker. I think one of Tevez or Aguero will start shining soon, and they'll be the ones to get.

Do you think Vidic is worth 8 million downgrade to Kompany and get some city coverage in defence for their good run of fixtures.
Use that extra 2 million to upgrade your attackers.
Do you also want Nani with Rooney as well I would change him to Malouda or Silva.

Anyone else considering Bosingwa? He seems to have started most pre-season games, and could be a steal at 5.5 if AVB likes him. Or do people generally think Ivanovic will move out to the right now that Luiz is back?

id love to get him, but for starting off stay safe with cole then downgrade if possible to another playing chelski defender

      my plan anyways...

avb loves the wing backs, but he may find enough cover in cole 😐 and have the other 3 as solid cover if cole does go forward a bit

There is a definite flawed logic in your reasoning for choosing Ferguson. If HE is the one you are planning on transferring in a new player for, there is no logical purpose to hold him instead of a 4.5 player elsewhere...here's why:

If you chose him at 4.0 in order to free up an extra .5 to spend elsewhere on your squad b/c you just didn't have the funds to stretch far enough...how do you plan on then upgrading that same 4.0 player to a more expensive one unless you use at least two transfers in the process. You were either broke and will have to downgrade a different player to free up the cash...or you had the extra money and didn't need to waste it on a 4.0 benchwarmer who will never see the field. You will either be taking a 4pt. Hit or have to save up two weeks of transfers to pull this off, when you could have just balanced out two cheap players around 6.0-6.5 and swapped in the same "new Adam"

Also take into account that there are a significant number of 4.0'ers that turn into 3.9er's once they don't see the field for three or four weeks, well, doesn't look like a keen investment at all.

Now if you plan on just HOLDING him indefinitely as a 4.0 spot and using that extra $$ to upgrade elsewhere...as soon as you have a slew of injuries to your squad, he'll be in your starting lineup getting you a big whopping ZERO that week.

And if you don't get any injuries, then instead of saving you .5, he's essentially costing you 4.0 to just sit there and do nothing. I'd rather utilize that 4.0 instead of saving the .5 or 1.0mil.

And if he is your bench warmer and sits there for five to ten weeks and never sees the field 9 times out of 10 he will drop in value.

    hi all!

i started abit late in my planning this year, thought i could count on the advice on this site

    1) had RVP as the first on my list till i realised that he's a doubt, might bring him in after gw3, question is who to replace him? Drog? although i already have malouda and a. cole. Rooney? will be a str 12mil swap but that would leave me with nothing in the bank hence no flexibility for injuries. any viable alternatives? carrol maybe?

    2) currently have BOTH sinclair and taarabt, too risky? got em as they rotate fairly well though i understand that they are both unproven at the highest level, might go moses for one of them to save some cash

    3) i'm gonna rotate 3 cheapies with 13mil to spend, currently with simpson and orr, also in the consideration are bramble(looks better than brown?), hughes (cheap route to FUL cleanies), enrique if he goes LIV, givet(i'm a rovers fan n there ain't anyone else to shortlist), alcaraz (stunning starting fixtures though WIG), it's given and ruddy between the sticks for me, any advice?

    thanks in advance!

i think you're working it all out nicely

1/ drog is too insecure for me but a gamble that could work
2/ i think they're too expensive to rotate unless it's a very tough fixture

        1) alternative big striker suggestions?

        2) maybe thats why i'm stuck with such a tight budget for defense, was thinking that i'll swap one of them for this season's c. adam when i know who! that is if it ain't either of them

well i like Carroll/Suarez/Bent but obviously Rooney and RVP will be popular and these things tend to be more luck than judgement...I don't want to tell anyone not to get Drogs in case he gets a hatful of goals in the first 3 weeks which is certainly possible

      looks good to me

will downing be a regular for LIV though? they seem packed with mids, if he does, the downing to carrol combi might be one to watch out for

also u think drog will start most matches? considering him myself

I was always inclined to think Drogba would start at least GW1 but now with this Torres news I think he's a must have especially if the concussion talks are true. You don't want to rush anyone back after an injury like that. But then again we don't really know the extent of the injury.

Downing I think will definitely be nailed on. They seem to be more packed in the center of midfield but they'll need him rampaging down those wings feeding balls into Carrol. To me it came down to Carrol + Malouda or Downing + Drogba with the later being slightly cheaper.

Sorry, accidently replied to a thread.

If all the games get postponed – doest that mean we can transfer unlimited until next wk or do we still need to lock in our squad before gw1 deadline – very hard to predict how tides will change next wk…

I changed O'Hara to Ramsey today. Could be a massive bargain if he takes Nasri/Fabregas' role as the playmaker in midfield. I've never watched him live though, so would love some opinions to back up the decision. Others' call on O'Hara vs. Ramsey?

Camzy, can you give me your opinion about putting Benayoun in my squad for the first GW, just as a potential suprisse (I already have Malouda) or shall I stick with N zog?? Thanks

Not Camzy, but imo stick with N'Zog. You already have Malouda for Chelsea cover and he's more likely than Benayoun to start every game.

Still a risk I think but could pay off if he does indeed start. I still think N'Zog is a better option. Will be on most set pieces most likely and more of a threat imo

You know what is main problem, cause I have that idea for several days, and if I change that and Benayoun do some damage, it will persecute me until and of season.

Remember that Benayoung is what 7.0m (off top of head) and Sessegnon is 6.5m. Is it worth already planning out a transfer on a player that only uses 2.0m of your 'disposable wage' (Since the cheapest 5 mids are 4.5).
The reason why so many people WC early is that over the summer things change and we can't accurately predict what will happen this season. So do you really want to plan out one of your transfers that could be used to bring in a player that was underestimated before the season?

          Morning!

          My team atm

          Given, Ruddy
          Cole, Kompany, Bramble, Orr, Simpson
          Malouda, Silva, Sess, Sinclair, Moses
          Rooney, Carroll, Holt

          What do you guys think?
I would really love to get nzog in, but that can be only if I lose cole, rooney or silva.

          Tinkering...
cole + moses => lescott + dyer and then sinclair to nzog
          or maybe
rooney => drog and sinclair to nzog
          and finally
silva to nzog and then next week carroll to drogba/torres

What do you guys think, any of those worth it?
          Any fresh ideas welcome!!

          Cheers!

I have the same team!!!!! And here what I am gonna do.
Who you are plaining to bench for first GW? Sinclair? And for second? Everybody else have similar fixtures like in the first, so maybe again him. So, I am doind next, Put N Zog instead Sessegnon, and swap Sinclair for cheaper, Dyer, and put HIM on the bench for first, and maybe for second also.
            What do you think?

Not entirely, leaves you with a lot of room to upgrade the rest of your squad. Statistically based on last seasons performance, strikers are overpriced on average. Could certainly be worth your time sharing the wealth in other regions 😉

Hey guys. Torn between two options.

          Hart/N'Zogbia/Drogba,

          or

          Given/Malouda/Bent.

Can't for the life of me decide which one's better.

Rotating keepers such as Foster/Mignolet got 20 CS last season compared to Hart/4.0m keeper who got 17 CS between them
Therefore I'd advocate for Given over Hart in either case

Then the difference really is between Zogs/Drogba + 2.0m or Malouda/Bent. I'd say Malouda/Bent are a great option and both have viable alternatives at the same pricing should it not work out.
Question is the rest of the squad really and how far 2.0m more could go

Hey. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Not too big on Bent too, and already have Carroll. Didn't see the need for the 2.0 so I chucked it on Hart (already have Nani, Silva) but I guess its the wrong way of balancing the teams.

Will go back to Malouda/Bent then. Cheers guys.
