Fernando Torres is an early doubt for Chelsea’s weekend trip to Stoke after reportedly suffering concussion whilst playing for Spain this evening.

The striker lined up for the Spanish against Italy in tonight’s friendly but lasted just 14 minutes before being forced off with a head injury.

Medical staff are expected to examine Torres before offering a further assessment. Already they are insisting that his withdrawal was purely a precaution.

However, if Torres has suffered concussion, he would seem likely to be forced to sit out of the trip to Britannia.

There are already doubts over Andre Villas-Boas’ team selection for Sunday’s game with Torres unable to take his opportunity to impress in the pre-season. Didier Drogba’s physical presence against Tony Pulis’ muscular outfit may well have been preferred regardless of the availability of the £50 million Spaniard.

Drogba was also in action tonight, scoring his 50th international goal via a penalty in Ivory Coast’s 4-3 victory against Israel in Geneva.

Torres is currently owned by over 88,000 Fantasy Premier League managers – Drogba currently claims almost double that figure.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I haven't posted a team all summer and as I go on holiday today I would appreciate any feedback from the morning crowd.

    Kenny (Given)

    Cashley / Kompany / Hughes / (simpson , gabbidon)

    O'Hara / Nzog / Moses / Malouda / (sessegnon)

    Rooney / Carrol(c) / Rodellaga

I plan to upgrade rodders to odem after GW3, having rooney will allow me to see how chelsea line up with a view to bringing one of drogba/torres.

I appreciate my midfield is cheap (don't think that necessarily means it is weak) I actually think there are plenty of cheap-mid price options out there that I can switch to depending on form and fixtures the likes of duff, tarrabt, sinclair, barton, etherington, rodwell, wilshere and swp (if he moves).

Realise the team is fairly FFS generic, but would welcome any thoughts. Thanks

Looks good to me, solid, similar to many (including mine!) but for good reason. I dont like Rod myself, for obvious reasons, good fixtures but poor player, Id also go for a diff 6 mill, but I like it and think it will do you well. If off on holiday ( I had to do that last year, I feel your pain) it is solid and reliable for first week or so.

thanks for the feedback - one option is kenny->ruddy and rodders->zamora, just keep looking at those first 3 wigan fixtures and thinking rodders has to score some good points!

Will Rod take pens? I had Zamora but his fixtures are not as good as some seem to say, esp considering Fulham's away form. I would stick with Rod over him! Hope the hols go well, how many GW you away for?!

Want to get Ramsey in....thinking of dropping Downing instead of Taarabt..is that silly?!
Already have Carroll and feel Ramsey will rise in value if he starts scoring or just as it becomes clear where he will play. Plus gives me Arsenal coverage. Thoughts?

downing/carroll combo could be lethal during the season, but at the start i think you can do without downing till the fixtures improve.

Yeah that can be my excuse! haha. Drop the mid that isnt hitting it and upgrade to Downing. Just feel a starting, attacking Arsenal mid for 6.5, when RVP a doubt, seems too good to miss

Fabregas seems to be on his way and nasri likely to move so frees up a bit of space in arsenal midfield, I would drop taarabt out of those two if you really want him, but for me he's one to keep an eye on, if I pay 0.1 or 0.2 for him, so be it.

Taarabt on on pens, centre of the team and good fixtures though, if he doesnt hit it off early on he may not get a better chance, I am considering having 2 mill in bank to allow the switch soon as a I want!

Quickie - why is everyone going for Kompany rather than Lescott ? Is it just the price or is Kompany more likely to play ?

My current lineup has Lescott instead of Kompany.

Also decided on Baines instead of Cole. If Enrique goes to Liverpool then I'll have him too and just put two £4m defs around them.

Lescott vs Kompany is a tough one, 0.5 the difference in price but lets think about value.

Lescott presents more of a threat going forward, everyone knew this without me telling you so.

Kompany is the rock at the back type who plays every game with Lescott being a rotation risk when toure returns (but also onuocha, boyata and savic when the champions league fixtures roll around).

For consistancy Kompany is the man, Lescott may pop up with the extra 6 points on 4 or so occasions but Kompany will pick the points up in extra clean sheets over the campaign.

It is very difficult to predict goal scoring defenders with Lescott uncertain after a short number of gameweeks. Kompany seems better value for the season and should rise by 1.0 over the season (roughly)

    My team:

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany Hughes Orr (Bramble Simpson)
    Malouda Silva N'Zog Moses (Sinclair)
    Drogs Carroll Zamora

1.5 mill in bank (Drogs->RVP if fit for gw1)

Perhaps my defence is *too* cheap though?

    FYI: GOALKEEPERS AND ROTATION

That spreadhseet above is amazing and you may want to save it....HOWEVER it is only gospel if you dont change ur keepers through a season. I do.

For instance i have Kenny and Given which only has a rotation rating of 8...one of the lowest YET for the first 9 GW's these are the fixtures you will get if you rotate them....

    BOLTON (H)
    BLACKBURN (H)
    WOLVES (H)
    NEWCASTLE (H)
    NEWCASTLE (H)
    VILLA (H)
    WIGAN (H)
    BLACKBURN (H)
    WEST BROM (H)

The fixtures get messy after BUT is there a better run for longer in the prem this season? I doubt it. This is why Given/Kenny is an ultimate combo to begin with...although a lot rides on QPR and home form!!!

I am going to take Wc before Gw 10 so i needed a goalie who will rotate well till gw 10 and then after looking at fixtures i can decide who to take and who to not.But it depends i am taking wc so it suits for those who not will have to invest for (i guess).

haha, ive got him. Good preseason form. Dembele carrying an injury and lacking fitness, Zamora with a cracked wrist or something.

Also Fulham have good opening fixtures and an attack minded coach in Jol.

Rooney is a confirmed starter for man united he has no competition while Rvp will have some or the other comp with (Chamakh,Gevinho). So Rooney is the safest option between Rooney/Rvp and he will rise in price.

      Nope.

Rooney will need to score well first before he rises in price. He played well in the CS game but not in FPL terms.

Also RVP plays as a central striker whereas Gervinho will be playing on a flank. Chamahk has fallen out of favour with Wenger and Bentdner is up for sale.

Sorry but that's really flawed thinking.

RVP has no competition at all in the Arsenal starting lineup. He'll get the best position, the best chances, and will dominate everything Arsenal do offensively. He's also team captain.

Too top heavy for my liking, needs a little more weight in defence and personally wouldn't go with Barton, but end of the day we're all different and want different things from our teams; that's the great thing about this game, if you want serious frontline, rest of your team suffers for it!

    Ramsey or Sessegnon?

Ramsey is looking more and more attractive by the day as the injuries pile up and cesc edges closer to an exit.

But Sess has been on fire in pre-season and is slightly OOP. My only worry with him is that Conor Wickham will take his spot for some games if Brucie goes with a more attacking set-up.

Ive got both atm, but with the Cesc and Nasri transfers getting closer i would take ramsey preferentially. He should play a creative role.

Ramsey is also playing Newcastle who would have a decent chance of relegation where Sess is vs Liverpool.

I would take the chance on ramsey GW1(if named) and if you prefer Sess swap on GW2 where he has a easier fixture.

No. Despite the received opinion on these boards that strikers will do the best out of the new bonus system, I am fairly sure that they will do worse - and have an argument for that. I see that I can get better value for the biggies in midfield, although I covet Rooney. Drogba is my only outlay up front.

    My back line is currently

    ACole Kompany Enrique (Gabbidon Simpson)

Enrique was always based on him going to Pool, so who should I change him for? Hughes is probably best option but I'd like to save another 0.5m to allow me to get Malouda GW2 if possible.

So long question shortened, is there a decent defender at 4.5m who makes sense here?

    Thanks

I have that backline with hughes instead of enrique, think he is worth the extra 0.5 over the other 4.5 options but realise you want to save the cash. Bit random but I was looking at givet/salgado to rotate with gabbidon/simpson as an option...

No but there are lots of 5.5s so if you downgrade ACole you can afford the likes of Jagilka, Cahill and even Lescott. ACole is not worth 7.5, he will never wow you with points. 7.5 is the equivilant of N'zogbia!

    Robinson (+4m)
    Cahill Lescott Riise (Jagielka, simpson)
    Moses Taarabt O'hara Malouda (Sessegnon)
    Rooney(c) Zamora Corroll(v)

I've just realised how important rotation is. Jakielka rotates with cahill well for the first few weeks. Sess rotates well with o'hara.

don't like cahil's fixtures, in my opinion it's ok to rotate for example 4/4.5m defenders but if you're spending more on the likes of cahill/jags you'd want them to be starting in your team most weeks.

(With my red tinted specs firmly on) Rooney.

Just feel he's going to have a great year. Even when he doesnt score he is often assisting. Also feel Utd are in for a great season where we will score freely and might even sort out a few of those poor away performances starting in GW1.

Arse are looking injured, defeated and demoralised before the seasons even started. RVP is still a great buy of course though such is his FF prowess

Rooney. He always gives points garrenteed. He's on pens, he assists, he scores, he gets bonus points and he's got more supply this year thanks to Young and Nani's improvement.

Arsenal are having midfield trouble and RPV has a large injury risk! The season hasn't started and he already has an injury! If he was always fit, RVP would get more points and goals but he is not worth a mammoth 12m risk.

I think he scores more goals when fit. But i can't even be sure of that anymore because of fabregas and nasri leaving! Add injurys onto that, and that's two significant factors. When you compare Rooney with the same price who will get more assists, and is a definite starter, in an improving team, it's a no-brainer. If both were fit all season Rooney may nudge in front on points because he is an all-round player.
