Sergio Aguero supplies a pair of assists, whilst Yaya Toure scores for the second match in succession as City sweep aside Southampton at St Mary’s. Christian Eriksen and Kevin Mirallas also maintain their fine form by bagging a goal apiece as Spurs edge past Everton at the Lane.

Saints Exodus on the Cards

Unbeaten since Gameweek 7 and having previously conceded just once at home this season, Southampton were unable to live up to expectations against champions City yesterday. Worryingly for Ronald Koeman, the Saints have now played three of last season’s top eight and lost each of those encounters and one look at their schedule suggests the Saints are set for a tough festive period – over the next eight Gameweeks, they face both Arsenal and Man United twice and also have clashes against Chelsea and Everton.

Fantasy faith in the Saints’ assets is beginning to wane after they failed yesterday’s test miserably. Unable to find a way past a side that finished the match with nine men, their display certainly suggests that sales of their assets will speed up right across the park, with many set to overlook Koeman’s side until the winter wildcard kicks in. Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand are amongst the fourth most popular defenders, whilst Graziano Pelle is third for front men, behind only Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero, but their ownership levels look likely to dwindle. Pelle, in particular, is set for a significant decline in ownership. Having failed to score in his last five outings, he faces a real struggle to justify a place in our three-man frontlines – with the likes of Wilfried Bony, Charlie Austin and Danny Ings all firing right now, he’s likely to be the first to face the boot for most.

CITY HITTING TOP GEAR

After a somewhat patchy spell of form over November, City’s 3-0 victory at St Mary’s was a real statement of intent. A trip to the Saints’ stronghold was seen as a big test for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, but their confidence was clearly blossoming after their dramatic win over Bayern Munich in midweek, and they passed the challenge with flying colours. Yaya Toure is finally starting to come good after scoring for the second consecutive Gameweek, and presents himself as an immediate option for owners of the stricken Angel Di Maria; the Ivorian has registered the most attempts on goal of any midfielder this season, and is beginning to look the player who soared to popularity with a total of 20 strikes in the last campaign.

Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero’s absence from the scoresheet meant that the forward failed to net in successive matches for the first time this season. In a week where both Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez drew blanks, the Argentine was still on hand to provide a pair of assists, however, as he returned to the top of the FPL standings ahead of a midweek trip to Sunderland.

Defensive Worries for Pellegrini

However, things aren’t so glossy for City in defence, with Eliaquim Mangala now suspended for the trip to Sunderland on Wednesday after being given his marching orders against the Saints, and captain Vincent Kompany a midweek doubt after sustaining a hamstring problem late on yesterday. Martin Demichelis is likely to come into the starting XI for the Black Cats clash, whilst Bacary Sagna could possibly be required to fill at centre-half should Kompany miss out.

Eriksen and Kane in the Points Again

Christian Eriksen climbed above Nacer Chadli as Spurs’ top FPL scorer after netting in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Everton. The Dane is up to fifth spot for midfielders – just two points behind Eden Hazard – after scoring four times in his last seven league appearances and, with the fit-again Chadli benched for yesterday’s win, Eriksen looks the main target in Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield. Granted, whilst a trip to Chelsea on Wednesday should deter major investment for now, he then faces Crystal Palace, Swansea, Burnley and Leicester in his subsequent four, suggesting points are likely to be on the cards over Christmas.

Harry Kane continues to tick over in the budget bracket. The 4.9-valued forward provided the assist for Eriksen’s strike and has now produced returns in three of his last four – Kane remains firmly under the radar with 2% ownership but, once the midweek trip to Chelsea has passed, he has the form and fixtures to prevail.

Mirallas on the Radar

Kevin Mirallas’ opener means that the Belgian has now notched in back-to-back matches in all competitions, and is looking just as appealing as Eriksen in the mid-price midfield bracket right now. What’s more, the 7.2-priced winger was subbed off on the hour mark, suggesting that Roberto Martinez was keen to protect him ahead of the home encounter against Hull in midweek. Meanwhile, Leighton Baines returned from injury in the defeat, and the left-back could now come back to haunt the 53,000 who sold him on after his absence in Gameweek 11 – the Toffees have home clashes with Hull, QPR and Stoke in their next five, with plenty of potential for both defensive and attacking points on the cards for the 23%-owned left-back

In two minds. Also had since GW1, so a 0.3m profit as of today values. Have second FT available for Rooney maybe?

Price changes. Though as it's mostly a Costa swap they can all afford it. So gambling to save a bit of cash.

    ::::: Dead Team Challenge - GW13 Leaderboard Updated :::::

Quick turn around this week, lads...

Continuing with his relentless pursuit of all things dead, our current leader "The Casual" sits atop the "tree of the dead" for the 6th week running with an impressive 739pts, which equates to a hugely respectable rank of 11k... 😯 which I think is absolutely excellent for a team that hasn't made any changes in 13 weeks...

Hot on his trails though is the fast approaching Mull, on 716pts, with Woeisme close behind on 710pts...

Congratulations to both Mull and Ginkapo for ripping up the form books with the highest weekly scores, registering as they did 68pts each... equivalent to a 15k weekly rank... honourable mentions to Doctor X (66pts) and Alberto Tomba (65pts) who were not far behind...

It's not all sunshine and rainbows however, so it's time for some naming and shaming... 😆

There are some teams that just haven't quite mastered the art of picking a dead team (I'd include myself in this list btw)... SpikeyMackai2014, it could be argued, is the strongest team in the league, seeing as he's holding everyone else up on his shoulders and sitting pretty with 364pts, earning him a world ranking of 3.2m...

BlsoeBadger can thank his lucky stars that he's not last, but with only 447pts, it's a good job he's able to make changes to his team in the real game... 😉

Please click on this link for the latest GW13 leaderboard:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1raAyvT8NYalwe4_-1EqJZBOOcbwjmixKpFu18ySKGVQ/edit#gid=327262680

You can also click on the 'teams' tab and scroll through to check your team individually... the teams are listed alphabetically so that should make it easier to navigate...

And finally, a huge thank you to Billy for his continued work behind the scenes, without his ongoing tech support I doubt I'd be able to do any of this in a timely manner, if at all...

    Thanks...

A few hours ago, TorresMagic suggested that the ideal dead team would win FPL every season, so I decided to test his theory.

This is the best dead team that I could come up with for the first 14 game-weeks of this season:

      Fabianski
      Clyne-Bertrand-Baines
      Sanchez-Fabregas-Siggy-Downing
      Aguero(C)-Pelle-Diego Costa
      (4.0-Boyd-O'Shea-4.0)

This is only 2 players different from the current Overall Dream Team, with Downing replacing Hazard to keep it within budget, and Fabianski replacing Forster to avoid having 4 Southampton players.

(Boyd autosubbed for Sanchez in GW5 and for Diego Costa in GWs 8, 9 and 14; O'Shea autosubbed for Baines in GW12; no vice-captain was required, since Aguero hasn't missed a match yet)

It would have scored 964 points so far, compared with the current world leader's 947, with an initial cost of 99.5m, but it won't beat the world leader over the full season.

This gap will extend once a few injuries hit & the autosubs do well when needed.

Players like Costa wouldn't be used for this practice. Austin would be instead & Hazard would take Downings spot. So many combinations.

Austin for Costa for lose only 5 points, compared with Downing for Hazard losing 13 points - but then you wouldn't get Boyd's 18 points off the bench for GWs 8, 9 and 14.

True. There will be a few combinations that will finish 1st. Might have a play around & type a team here later. You could throw in Sakho there & get lots of sub points from his non games.

Yes, but his sub points would all have to come from the first player on your bench, who will probably have to be a cheapo.

And at some point you will probably find that you can't field a full team because of injuries.

Snodgrass was a great 1st sub at Norwich. Last season Suarez helped by missing the first 5/6 games & the v/c was Yaya from memory.

A dead team with Suarez(C) and Yaya(V) would probably have established a big early lead last season, but serious injuries to players to players like Ramsey would have been a big handicap.

Even if the dead team might have won last season, it isn't going to this time.

The dead team is currently 17 points ahead of the world number one, but will drop back once a number of the dead team squad either miss games through injury or rotation, or lose their early season form.

The world number one will be able to transfer these players out and replace them with others who will score higher during the remainder of the season.

I guarantee that a dead team will win again.
Boyd probably won't make the team when the season finishes. Points per game/value is a better way of making the team.

The players in the current Overall Dream Team have only missed 5 games between them so far.

Any players with better points per game will have missed a greater number of games, so the bench players will be autosubbed more frequently and will have to cover a greater number of game-weeks.

If Boyd and O'Shea had to be promoted to the team more frequently, they would make a far less impressive contribution to the total score.

None of the first eleven, subs, captain, vice-captain or order of subs in the dead team can be changed during the entire 38 game-week season, and the dead team can't play a wild card either, so it will find it increasingly difficult to keep up with the world number one.

The best dead team for the entire 38 GWs will be different from the best one for the first 14 GWs, and will also be different from the best one for the remaining 24 GWs. And it will score fewer points in the first 14 GWs than the best one for those 14 GWs, and also fewer points in the remaining 24 GWs than the best one for those 24 GWs.

The gap would have been greater earlier in the season and is now only 17 points. It probably won't be long before the world number one overtakes it.

Chelsea's wingers are Hazard and Willian, City's is Navas. Big difference in quality there. Personally wouldn't bank on City to do well if Sunderland can keep Chelsea at bay.

So who do I rbing in for ADM? Didn't think he'd drop twice in 2 days 😕

    A) Mirallas
    B) Eriksen? Don't really fancy him against Chelsea, tbh.
    C) Your suggestion 🙂

Had the same problem, were considering both of them. Mirallas not nailed and not a fan of Spurs players. Oscar/Fab could be a good option, but you probably have 3 Chelsea already?
      I went with Di Maria & Moore > Downing & Baines for a -4p.

Like who? Burnley perhaps but they are on form, I see Everton scoring against them and also Palace….Saints let three in against a team who finished with nine men!! They are good but overrated IMO as they've had a really easy run until now, they also conceded to Villa….
