It’s a short, sharp Scribbles we offer this morning as the tension ramps up ahead of tomorrow’s big kick-off. Aston Villa hope to bring back on old face in Thomas Hitzlsperger, while Roy Hodgson believes in Owen Hargreaves’ fitness. Alan Pardew offers an olive branch to Joey Barton and Tony Pulis is looking for six new players as Stoke square up to Europe. Here we go, folks:

Jose Enrique is set to sign a four-year deal with Liverpool today. Kenny Dalglish’s search for a left-back looks to now be over and with one year left on his Newcastle contract, Enrique’s transfer is thought to be around the region of £6m. More importantly, as far as Fantasy managers are concerned, Enrique is priced at just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and can be expected to see plenty investment on the back of this move.

Alex McLeish has been linked with a move for Thomas Hitzlsperger. The Villa boss admitted yesterday he would need to trade players before making any further acquisitions but with the German available on a free, a return to Villa Park may not be out of the question. As Big Eck went on to say:

“Thomas’ name has been mentioned against a number of other players. If it came to a choice, we’d have to think about everything if we were able to get that choice. Maybe in midfield, in terms of experience, we are a little bit lacking.”

Roy Hodgson has offered Owen Hargreaves a contract at West Brom. The ex-Man United midfielder has seemingly proved his fitness to the Baggies boss and is now mulling over a move to the Hawthorns. Hodgson’s take on the situation is:

Look, we’ve done the test, we agree with you that the knee’s OK and you can play football. And of course if you’d like to come and play for us that would be lovely. But whether or not our offer is going to be interesting to him, that’s what I don’t know.

Stoke are in the market for six new signings, according to Tony Pulis . Speaking this morning, the Potters boss admitted he was looking to strengthen the club’s options up front before the end of August. With a bid in for Peter Crouch as well as Spurs team mate Wilson Palacios, it looks like being a busy three weeks ahead on the transfer front.

Both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri won’t feature tomorrow for Arsenal. The duo were left out of Arsenal’s squad for the trip to Newcastle by Arsene Wenger and their respective exits from the Emirates are edging closer by the day.

It looks like Joey Barton may still have a part to play at Newcastle, after all. Only a week or so ago, there seemed no way back for the midfielder after the twitter debacle that saw him criticise the club, but Alan Pardew is willing to offer him a chance if Barton can prove he’s willing to give his all:

Joey will determine whether he stays. I’ve told Joey that he won’t play for me and I won’t include him unless I think he’s pulling for us. If Joey turns around to me and says that’s what he’s going to do, then he will. He’s in the process of weighing up what he needs to do.

    Scouts

When you informed us that you would be in partnership with FPL and will have a weekly article there was a bit of an uproar around here. You asked posters to wait and see what the changes are and not to jump to conclusions, reserve judgement until the first article is posted. Well now the first article has been posted here's my opinion. I don't mean to show disrespect because i know how hard you scouts work on the site and at the end of the day, it is your site. This is just my view.

The article is pretty much a sum up of a lot of articles posted on here over the summer. The reason people come onto FFS is to find differentials like Moses. But he won't be a differential anymore because it's right there in black and white, top of the pre season scorers and in the 'one to watch' list. On top of that, the article make Dzeko, Malouda and Ramsey look like good options, all of which are in my team. Malouda, ok, most people would have considered him, but Ramsey and Dzeko!? Not many outside of FFS would have thought of them.

I've paid for membership, not only because it is a great sight, but to show support for all your hanrdwork. I first came to this site to gain an advantage over rivals, i won't lie, im a competitive person, i want to win and now im concerned that i won't be gaining an advantage as FFS bandwagons are posted on the FPL scout.

To all those thinking im going over the top, think about this, how annoying is it when you transfer in a cheeky differential or have a captain choice you are happy with, come 12:30, you log on with excitement to check your closest rivals team and then BAM! They have transferred in the same player. How annoying is that feeling? Get used to it!

Again, i know you appreciate feedback, this is just my view on the matter. Im sure others will disagree.

Exactly! In my first season playing FPL i swore by 'The Pundit' Every friday night, i'd read the article and pick at least one of his picks. Im sure most casual players are the same. Captain choices and differentials win mini leagues.

I just read the scout on the fpl...sure it has a lovely synopsis on it...cuts out the waffle.
As for the debate on other players picking up"differentials" doesn't that make the fpl more competitive? I think people think the ffs is some sort of "old firm" and newbies shouldn't be let in (really) which is silly.
Also just because the knowledge and info is there it does not always mean the info is correct or that the football knowledge will pan out as expected. For example Blackpool 4 Wigan 0 a result which I assume knocked many people out of Paddy Powers "last man standing" last year.
There is a fair amount of luck involved in fpl, although some players can consistently be in the top 3k year in year out. Others like myself decide to take risks think I know "better" and leave most of my points on the bench despite having a great 15 players.
A little knowledge is a dangerous think also listening to some advice on these forums can be even more dangerous.
Remember please enjoy fantasy football responsibly..

The only reassuring word I could say here is that I think the reason we're on here is we care more about the game than the others we play against.

Even with a carrott dangled in front of their faces, your competitors may not pursue it any further.

I don't mind so much that there is a link, why wouldn't the scouts want more visitors for their site? Im on here so it would be hypocritical of me to not want others on here. Im just frustrated that FFS bandwagons are now on the FPL site. Teams are going to start looking the same.

I have no problem with more people finding the site and researching on the back of it and coming to their own views. But to just list players in the manner they have negates the need for research and detracts from my own hard work. FFS seem to be upsetting the actual game, which is a shame. The old pundit was a bit cheeky and not so clever clever. It gave people z choice. I do feel Mark and crew are getting a bit carried away they seem so much more distanced and haven't responded to any of these criticisms I don't think.

+1 Now back to me; Love this website, but I really dont think the membership is worth £12.5.
I think that this website has to choose between (a) being in a niche market and charge for top class articles, or (b) trying to get as many ppl as possibly and live off ads on the website.
It looks like they choose the later option.

What the other people don't get though its the wealth of knowledge on these forums, and people to talk you out of doing stupid heat of the moment transfers, or taking a gamble because you listened to your heart and not your head.

I remember in my season, all I looked at was how many points the player currently had. I had the cheapest defenders available, many who didn't play, Terry Henry, van noodleroy, and anyone else I thought was going to get me points.

I think the issue lies in that this site gives away too much FREE info. Most other subscription sites gives more to their members and only snippets to the public whereas here, you get LOADS of info. Doesn't make sense from 2 counts. 1, members should be rewarded for their investment. 2, surely as a business model you'd want to incetivise people to subscribe!!!!?

doisneau, this doesn't make sense. When a person is given a name of a player on FFS they take special consideration, weigh up the pros and cons and eventually come to a decision taking the balance of their team and various other options into account. And when someone reads 'Moses' on the FPL site they just bung him in?

If that is all true (and I think FPL-only readers should be given a little more credit; or FFS readers a little less) then I still think someone who thinks about their team has the advantage. How many FFS bandwagons last season failed? Kolarov, for example. Just because Mark has backed a player, it's not a golden ticket.

I agree with this and it's very annoying that Moses et al will be in more teams now but on the flip side, it was their first article aimed at an audience who never seen or heard of this website or similar ones so I guess they wanted to impress and I'm sure they have.
But yeah, pretty annoying that someone who just makes a team now will pretty much be aware of the stuff I've been researching for over a month now.

It'a a double edged sword for Mark and the scouts...by publishing their own views on the premier league site will get more visitors to FFS but at the same time will slightly negate the value of poeple paying £12.50 and becoming members.

Hopefully Mark will be smart enough not too sell them the crown jewels and give the premier league site viewer a taster of views - just enough for a bit of advice but also not give them everything too....

I don't think it's a big problem and doesn't devalue the site...it just means that the bandwagons will get bigger, and you may need to do a little more research to find YOUR OWN differential.

However, rememeber Total FPL is also good too!

Have to agree with "Now back to me", very disappointing to read the first Scout report last night, effectively handing on a plate the players who might have given those who are members of FFS a bit of a headstart for the first few weeks. No surprises to be had anymore...as pointed out Moses has jumped from been in 1.5% of teams to 3.2% and reckon that will be 4 or 5% come kick-off tomorrow.

Membership is not massive money or anything, actually it's very good value, and I don't mind supporting the site as you guys put alot of hard work into getting all the stats, articles, etc together but don't think you are doing yourselves any favours for getting people to re-join next season when one of the key advantages of joining is now available to every FPL player...

Have to say Now back to me, I agree, selfish as it is. Its tempting to just enjoy footy the old way and have a new hobby if putting work in is negated and so much is about luck - which of the well publicised punts turns out to be good ones, more and more luck. Ah well. Still looking forward to new season and my template team doing really well 😉

What's your template team looking like, I've got a fe different players in mine. Just need to decide between Ruddy, Silva & Drog or Schwarzer, Malouda & Dzeko and im done.

First option. I'd want Drog in GW2 and GW3, whereas Dzeko might be out on his ear by then and struggling to get on the pitch.

That is the issue. I've had a feeling about Dzeko GW1 for weeks. I've got a plan to upgrade him to Suarez GW3.

However, i would much prefer Drog to Malouda. It's going to be a looong night! I could always lose Rooney for Drogba GW2 as i already have Nani.

There are going to be lots and lots of RMTs flying about today and you'll stand a better chance of getting a response if you give it in the format:

      GK GK
      DEF DEF DEF DEF DEF
      MID MID etc...

It's an easier format for people to read, when I see an RMT given as you've given it then normally I can't be bothered to give it the necessary attention.

I am almost there with my team.

    Given (Al Habsi)
    Kompany Hangeland A.Cole (S.Hughes W Brown)
    Moses Taarabt Silva Duff (O’Hara)
    Holt Carroll Bent

I don’t know whether to keep it as it is which leaves 2.5m in the bank for Silva to Lamps in GW2 or

    Hangeland to R.Johnson
    O’Hara to Nani

But that leaves 0m in the bank for any Chelsea next week. I could still do Silva to Lamps in GW2 but need to swap Hangeland for 4.0m def and a 4pt hit.

In the past I have tended to not spend any money on my defence which has cost me, so this season I am determined to sure up the backline.

    Thoughts?

Arsenal have had a red card in both games against newcastle last season

I'm starting with Drogba / Nani out of those purely because Nani was on fire last week and I think Drogba will now lead the line for the next 3 weeks or so instead of torres. So I'll get him in now ready for those easy fixtures.

RVP - well always good, but a lot of unknows with Arsenal at the mo, plus Arsenals first few fixtures not great.

Malouda on fire is awesome - but can blow hot and cold for me too

Do you have enough for Caroll over Suarez? I think Suarez will be on the bench and come on for Kuyt in the second half maybe. If he does start I think he'll be on the RHS wing.

See my post on this - not picking Suarez is crazy short-term thinking at the start of a long haul...

even when you think Carroll will score more points over the season?

That's different - I am talking about leaving him out of your squad simply because he may start GW1 on the bench
