It’s a short, sharp Scribbles we offer this morning as the tension ramps up ahead of tomorrow’s big kick-off. Aston Villa hope to bring back on old face in Thomas Hitzlsperger, while Roy Hodgson believes in Owen Hargreaves’ fitness. Alan Pardew offers an olive branch to Joey Barton and Tony Pulis is looking for six new players as Stoke square up to Europe. Here we go, folks:

Jose Enrique is set to sign a four-year deal with Liverpool today. Kenny Dalglish’s search for a left-back looks to now be over and with one year left on his Newcastle contract, Enrique’s transfer is thought to be around the region of £6m. More importantly, as far as Fantasy managers are concerned, Enrique is priced at just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and can be expected to see plenty investment on the back of this move.

Alex McLeish has been linked with a move for Thomas Hitzlsperger. The Villa boss admitted yesterday he would need to trade players before making any further acquisitions but with the German available on a free, a return to Villa Park may not be out of the question. As Big Eck went on to say:

“Thomas’ name has been mentioned against a number of other players. If it came to a choice, we’d have to think about everything if we were able to get that choice. Maybe in midfield, in terms of experience, we are a little bit lacking.”

Roy Hodgson has offered Owen Hargreaves a contract at West Brom. The ex-Man United midfielder has seemingly proved his fitness to the Baggies boss and is now mulling over a move to the Hawthorns. Hodgson’s take on the situation is:

Look, we’ve done the test, we agree with you that the knee’s OK and you can play football. And of course if you’d like to come and play for us that would be lovely. But whether or not our offer is going to be interesting to him, that’s what I don’t know.

Stoke are in the market for six new signings, according to Tony Pulis . Speaking this morning, the Potters boss admitted he was looking to strengthen the club’s options up front before the end of August. With a bid in for Peter Crouch as well as Spurs team mate Wilson Palacios, it looks like being a busy three weeks ahead on the transfer front.

Both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri won’t feature tomorrow for Arsenal. The duo were left out of Arsenal’s squad for the trip to Newcastle by Arsene Wenger and their respective exits from the Emirates are edging closer by the day.

It looks like Joey Barton may still have a part to play at Newcastle, after all. Only a week or so ago, there seemed no way back for the midfielder after the twitter debacle that saw him criticise the club, but Alan Pardew is willing to offer him a chance if Barton can prove he’s willing to give his all:

Joey will determine whether he stays. I’ve told Joey that he won’t play for me and I won’t include him unless I think he’s pulling for us. If Joey turns around to me and says that’s what he’s going to do, then he will. He’s in the process of weighing up what he needs to do.

huh. I just remembered Silva doesn't do as well with Tevez in the team for some reason.

And he wasn't playing with Tevez during pre-season when he was doing so well.

That is what even I was thinking. The 'team news' sections thinks otherwise, though. They have named a back four of Bardsley, Brown, Ferdinand and Richardson.

        Surely, they are wrong?

I'm splitting hairs I know but does anyone have thoughts on picking Orr vs Gabbidon.

Dyer started right back the last 3 friendlies for QPR, and although I can't see them doing that most premiership games, it may be an option for a half time sub if they are losing. Gabbidon might be more secure.

    Thoughts?

But theres no use picking a shit baguette that you purchase but cant eat. Or you get half way through to a tasty clean sheet and the baguette gets stolen/looted.

Its a toss up really. I can see Orr starting but being quite likely to be subbed off for Dyer if they need a goal, so no clean sheet anyway. I can see Gabbidon starting games and playing the 90 but perhaps being rested/rotated more often.

Its a minor issue because they wont get many clean sheets anyway, but I dont want anyone who wont be starting in my first 15, gone quite a safe route really.

Yes it is! Get rid of gervinho, if you REALLY want 2 then id say ramsey is a cheaper and better punt! Kuyt is also risky but it could pay off. Honestly i think huth is an aweful pick and riise is too expensive and if you have alcaraz then surely this is one of the best games all season to play him!

Ramseys no longer a punt but more of a run-of-the mill selection. I'd rather swerve him and Moses and find a new differential.

Huth is the one player I am certain of. Had him all last season, regular bonus and always likely to steel a goal. Same with Kuyt.

I've seen Gervinho play and is very very good, think we will see big things from him this season if the rest of the squad can get itself together.

Will play Alcaraz maybe lose Riise?

Most information and thoughts provided on or via this site are free, accesible to anyone who cares to look. I don't think it's correct to feel like we have the monopoly on this information.

I would also suggest that people may be over reacting in saying outsiders would never consider Ramsey or Dzeko without use of FPL. Are you kidding? Ramsey is glaringly obvious given the departures! Don't fool yourself into thinking we have hidden secrets that no one has the brains to spot. Fair enough, feeding the lazy is not good but we are not a collective og genius FF Gods here.

Furthermore, if you pay for this site you are paying for a number of tools and stats that aren't being passed on by Mark via other channels. Worth my money as far as I am concerned.

Finally, I hope that people aren't starting to believe this site is selling its soul for money / publicity. If the quality of the information drops, you may have an arguement. But it hasn;t and until such time that would not be a fair accusation.

I understand that feeling of attachment to this once hidden gem of a site, and that it stings a bit when it becomes more common and well known. But really, it isn't our baby

Indeed, I am not a member so no complaints from me, other than the volume of traffic on here now making it far less enjoyable. Needs to be in a forum format.

I don't think the real issue is that more people get the good advice, it's that everyone gets it. They won't all use it of course, but enough will to lessen the impact.

Not just for members/non members here but anyone who takes time and does research into their team over the season themselves or on other sites.

Also which wigan defender would you choose out of:

    Alcaraz or Caldwell or Figueroa??

Most people have gone for alcaraz, but i think caldwell is captain for them and figueroa will probs get more points from assists

    hahah, radio interview:

"The police don't know me, but they look at me like I'm a criminal. You can't judge a book by it's cover."
"But if you were looting, you are a criminal."
"Err, yeah, but the police didn't see me. They don't know I was looting."

Conclusion: You can judge a book by it's cover.
