Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again as Fantasy managers prepare for a quick turnaround in fixtures ahead of tomorrow’s 7.30pm deadline. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With Diego Costa suspended for Chelsea’s home encounter against Spurs, Sergio Aguero is the standout armband candidate according to the votes cast so far. Despite failing to score in back-to-back matches for the first time this season, the City talisman has earned over 35% of the votes cast as the champions travel to a Sunderland side that has conceded just two goals in the last four and kept the league leaders at bay on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney is next in line as United look for a fourth straight win under Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils’ skipper has netted in successive league matches and is up against a Stoke defence that has been breached in each of the last seven – he’s persuaded over 16% to give him the nod. Robin van Persie remains a real differential for the Potters’ clash, with just 3% looking to the Dutchman to carry on from last weekend’s goal and assist at home to Hull.

Swansea are heavily backed for the visit of QPR – understandable, given that Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded more goals on their travels than any other team. With six goals in his last seven, Wilfried Bony earns 11% of the votes, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is next in line, having played a part in eight of his side’s 11 home goals so far.

Eden Hazard (7%) and Alexis Sanchez (5%) are also amongst the favourites. With Costa sidelined, Chelsea will be looking for the Belgian to score for the fourth successive home match as Spurs roll up to the Bridge, whilst Sanchez’ owners will be hoping for a return to form – he’s now blanked in each of the last two since being moved back to the flank.

    Guzan - (Jakupovic)
    Baines(c) - Moreno - Taylor - (Duff - Clyne)
    Sanchez - Sig - Downing - ADM - (King)
    Costa - Aguero - Austin

    1. Costa & ADM -> Rooney & Fab? -4
    2. ADM -> Mata/Mirallas/Oscar
    3. Other?

    Thanks for reply on bottom of last page DWMR. Which of these is best move in everyone's opinion?

    A. Play Marney, bench Costa.

    B. Costa -> Bony -4

          Bony or someone else in form the week isn't a bad move...imo. Especially if your bench is unlikely to get you points. What will you lose on Costa .1/.2?

          Thats what I mean. Seems a waste of -4. Bony scores 4 + playes 90 mins 2 = 6 (assuming no bonus) you end with 2. The same as Marney is likely to put up.

              Yes, I need to wake up early to get ready for work and the games can be a nice distraction. My draft league match up has a lot more riding on it for me personally than the FPL game proper. I'm a bit anxious after a couple of bad defeats.

                  Me too, probably got it in the bag too but it's a small consolation. The draft game title is the one I'm after.

    A. Costa - > Rooney -4

    B. Costa -> Bony -4

    C. Neither. Play Marney.

    (If A. or B. I'll be reversing the transfer in Gwk 16..)

      Cheers for the replies fellas. I see where you're coming from but if Rooney/Bony do get a goal they are likely to get bps. They might even get goal/assist to go with it. It's a bit like gambling but without too much to lose

    Interesting! if you combine the 2 Sunderland keepers you get the 2nd top points scoring Goalie [53] and at 8.8 mil good value Imo

    Pick me the best 5m defender...

    I'm thinking Chambers, but it depends on how long it will be before Debuchy starts again...

    Naylor's tightrope antics are quite the deterrent... Rangel doesn't inspire confidence, not for 5m...

      There is always a chance he could play defensive midfield. That's one of the reasons why we bought him. Arteta is out, but chambers is young he may be due a rest. It's a tough choice

      5th defender Hutton. Great fixtures. Cheap as chips and solid enough if called upon til January

      Debuchy is back mid-December so Chambers is a very short term pick.

      Naylor is *fine* but, his fixtures up to the Jan WC are great.
      Couple that with Swansea making so few errors defensively & you may just have who you're looking for.

      Take a look at AVL too, they're getting healthy & probably have the best set of upcoming games.

      Finally, if you can spend the extra £.3mil WHM's Cresswell is great.
      I think I'm going to be able to play him every game bar one (away to Che) up to GW22 because, he produces so many crosses & key passes that I don't have to rely on just CS for points.

        • 15 Years

        Yeah I want Cresswell, but I feel that I've missed his haul, but regardless it needs to be 5m so I can afford Hazard (& to a lesser extent Bony...)

    First real transfer dilemma of the season, but right now I'm looking at this...

    Elliot?
    Baines Clyne! Wisdom
    Sanchez Fabregas Chadli Siggy Boyd
    Aguero Austin

    Krul - Costa! Duff? Caulker

    2FTs, 1m ITB

    I have a few options, depending entirely on the lineups...

    A - Clyne & Costa > Azpi & Rooney(c) (2FTs)
    B - Clyne > Azpi (save FT)
    C - Clyne, Chadli & Costa > Chambers, Hazard & Bony (-4)

    I'm starting to think that C is the way to go, I have a feeling that both Hazard and Bony are gonna explode and both have the fixtures to continue it...
