It’s a short, sharp Scribbles we offer this morning as the tension ramps up ahead of tomorrow’s big kick-off. Aston Villa hope to bring back on old face in Thomas Hitzlsperger, while Roy Hodgson believes in Owen Hargreaves’ fitness. Alan Pardew offers an olive branch to Joey Barton and Tony Pulis is looking for six new players as Stoke square up to Europe. Here we go, folks:

Jose Enrique is set to sign a four-year deal with Liverpool today. Kenny Dalglish’s search for a left-back looks to now be over and with one year left on his Newcastle contract, Enrique’s transfer is thought to be around the region of £6m. More importantly, as far as Fantasy managers are concerned, Enrique is priced at just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and can be expected to see plenty investment on the back of this move.

Alex McLeish has been linked with a move for Thomas Hitzlsperger. The Villa boss admitted yesterday he would need to trade players before making any further acquisitions but with the German available on a free, a return to Villa Park may not be out of the question. As Big Eck went on to say:

“Thomas’ name has been mentioned against a number of other players. If it came to a choice, we’d have to think about everything if we were able to get that choice. Maybe in midfield, in terms of experience, we are a little bit lacking.”

Roy Hodgson has offered Owen Hargreaves a contract at West Brom. The ex-Man United midfielder has seemingly proved his fitness to the Baggies boss and is now mulling over a move to the Hawthorns. Hodgson’s take on the situation is:

Look, we’ve done the test, we agree with you that the knee’s OK and you can play football. And of course if you’d like to come and play for us that would be lovely. But whether or not our offer is going to be interesting to him, that’s what I don’t know.

Stoke are in the market for six new signings, according to Tony Pulis . Speaking this morning, the Potters boss admitted he was looking to strengthen the club’s options up front before the end of August. With a bid in for Peter Crouch as well as Spurs team mate Wilson Palacios, it looks like being a busy three weeks ahead on the transfer front.

Both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri won’t feature tomorrow for Arsenal. The duo were left out of Arsenal’s squad for the trip to Newcastle by Arsene Wenger and their respective exits from the Emirates are edging closer by the day.

It looks like Joey Barton may still have a part to play at Newcastle, after all. Only a week or so ago, there seemed no way back for the midfielder after the twitter debacle that saw him criticise the club, but Alan Pardew is willing to offer him a chance if Barton can prove he’s willing to give his all:

Joey will determine whether he stays. I’ve told Joey that he won’t play for me and I won’t include him unless I think he’s pulling for us. If Joey turns around to me and says that’s what he’s going to do, then he will. He’s in the process of weighing up what he needs to do.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Yep, I doubt he'll start at Stoke but it would worry me for the easy home games GW2 and 3 that Drogba isn't guaranteed a spot.

He says 4-3-3, one central striker, but he really likes Sturridge and thinks it's unfair that Chelsea have no right of appeal, only Bolton do. Not that he would appeal in this case, but he doesn't like the principal.

you dont need to have a sub keeper that wil play go with the cheapest one its a gamble but chances are you will no in advance if given wont play and you can rectify it same with midfiled ...ferguson for newcastle is 4.0 million and will never play but when are you ever gona need your third sub very rarley so save your money and bulk up your squad

Almost identical to mine. My only comment other than "I prefer x to y" is that rather than having S Tasylor, you might as weel get Simpson and upgrade Kompany to Lescott. Both Taylr and Lescott score goals, so you might as well have the one you play every week rather than risking missing Talylor's goals on the bench.

Is anyone holding off on Chelsea coverage (Benayoun/Malouda) until GW2 when we know more?

Going back to the discussion from a few pages back about FFS 'ruining your minileagues' started by Now Back To Me. I agree that there will be a lot more identikit teams around as a result, and therefore fewer differentials. I agree that it could potentially ruin the game if the majority of teams in each league consist of largely the same players.

But the thing to remember is that there is so much more to this game if you want to really get ahead. Anticipating price rises/falls, good rotation in your squad, planning a few weeks in advance, avoiding too many transfers... all these things are essential if you want to do well. There's much more to it than picking a few players of The Scout's list every week and making 4 transfers to get them in for that weekend. Most people won't have the inclination/dedication to do that for the whole season. And if they do, surely that's fair play to them. May the best man win.

Of course, if Mark starts posting articles to the FPL site about price rises and squad rotation, and everyone starts making the same transfer plans, then things really could start getting dull.

Anybody thinking about Steven Fletcher? Got 97 points in under 1400 minutes last season.
