With just hours until the Gameweek 14 deadline, we assess the PlayON Player Price List once again this lunchtime. Below we offer a couple of picks per position: one essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.
Fantasy managers should be aware that PlayON have now shifted the deadline for submitting your teams. Previously, the cut-off point was two hours before the first kick-off in a Gameweek but, as of tonight, you can now tinker with your starting XI right up until the first match(es) get underway, affording you time to assess the teamsheets before making any final decisions.
PlayON has Freeroll games and Guaranteed Pot games running each week for the rest of the season at www.PlayON.co. This week they have £300 in Freerolls on offer and £2,000 in Guaranteed Pots on offer – to get your free entry into the Freerolls just follow them on Twitter at https://twitter.com/PlayON and like them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/PlayON
Goalkeeper – Julian Speroni
Despite failing to keep a clean sheet since Gameweek 6, Crystal Palace have started to tighten up defensively and conceded just once in each of the last three. Tonight’s visitors Villa have been struggling in front of goal and mustered just one strike in their last five away trips and Speroni, at just 6.8m in the PlayON Player List, looks excellent value this evening. The Argentine also affords the opportunity of save points – he’s made three saves, worth 200 points each, in each of the Eagles’ last two home matches. David De Gea (7.6m) is our essential goalkeeper pick once again after securing a clean sheet at home to Hull last Saturday. The Spaniard now has two shut outs in as many home matches and this resilience looks set to continue as Stoke arrive at Old Trafford, having failed to score in two of their last three away matches.
Defender – Kyle Bartley
The centre-back is set to continue as a replacement for the injured Federico Fernandez in the heart of Swansea’s backline this evening. At just 5.5m, Bartley is the definition of a budget enabler and his defensive contribution is looked kind upon by the new PlayON Scoring Matrix – over his three appearances, he’s completed six tackles, ten interceptions and 18 clearances. With visitors QPR scoring just twice on their travels so far, the Swans will be confident of earning a sixth clean sheet of the season. After quickly recovering from a hamstring injury, Leighton Baines (9.7m) will be looking to churn out the points once again as Everton play host to struggling Hull. Bearing in mind the Tigers have failed to score away in three matches, a shut out could be on the cards for Roberto Martinez’ side, though it’s Baines’ attacking potential that mainly earns him the nod, with two goals and six assists to his name already.
Midfielder – Ross Barkley
Sidelined through injury at the start of the season, the Everton midfielder’s return to action has seen him play all but 16 minutes of the last four Gameweeks. With just two assists in six appearances this term, Barkley has yet to rediscover the form that produced six goals in 2013/14 but, at 8.9m, the youngster offers a cheaper alternative to team-mate Kevin Mirallas (9.7m). While Mirallas has better form, with a goal in each of his last two, we’ve opted for Barkley as his more combative style seems likely to benefit from the re-introduction of the tackle and interception points in PlayON. Available for 9.8m, Gylfi Sigurdsson continues to produce the goods for Swansea. Having supplied the assist for Wilfried Bony’s goal against Crystal Palace, the Icelandic international has played a part in eight of his side’s 11 goals at the Liberty and now hosts a QPR side that have lost every away encounter this season.
Forward – Ricky Lambert
The Liverpool striker has now grabbed two goals and an assist in three starts and looks set to be the focal point of Brendan Rodgers’ attack for this evening’s trip to Leicester City. Sitting bottom of the table after failing to win since September, the Foxes have managed just a single clean sheet in the last nine Gameweeks and, at a price of 9.8m, Lambert looks a decent in-form option for our two-man frontlines. Robin van Persie is our essential pick for United’s home clash with Hull. At a price of 13.7m he’s far from cheap but, having grabbed a goal and assist at the weekend – and outscoring Wayne Rooney by 700 points in PlayON – we’re backing the Dutchman to make the difference as Louis van Gaal’s side look for a fourth straight victory.
