As always, there are plenty of topics on our pre-Gameweek radar as we start to prepare for another round of fixtures. Nacer Chadli’s pitch time, Chelsea’s away displays, the budget showdown at Loftus Road and Christian Benteke’s showing against Leicester are all amongst our Thursday dinnertime menu.

Chadli’s minutes against the Eagles…
After missing the Gameweek 12 trip to Hull through injury, the Belgian has warmed the Spurs bench for each of the last two as Mauricio Pochettino places his faith in Aaron Lennon instead. Having scored six times in the first 11 outings, Chadli’s goal threat has been key for the north London outfit and Fantasy managers alike but his appeal looks in danger right now. Having earned just over half an hour off the bench at the Bridge last night, he’ll be pushing for a start once again but with Christian Eriksen offering an in-form alternative in the Tottenham midfield, another place amongst the subs for Chadli will surely be the final straw for his 15% owners.

Hazard and Costa on their travels…
With their top scorer suspended in midweek, the Chelsea winger netted for the fourth successive home match and finally forced him way past Cesc Fabregas in the Fantasy standings. Hazard is yet to convince away from the Bridge, though, whilst Costa has cut a frustrating figure on his travels, earning yellow cards in all five of his road trips. With City breathing down their necks and racking up the goals, the duo will need to step up their displays against a Newcastle side that have conceded just three times in the last seven. Given that Chelsea now have four away trips in the next six, Jose Mourinho needs his big–hitters to produce with more regularity outside of west London.

The Austin and Ings shootout…
The budget pair carry excellent form into their weekend head-to-head at Loftus Road. Austin has five goals and an assist in his last six, whilst Ings has netted four times and served up an assist over the same period – both have offered returns well beyond our expectations and with their defences looking vulnerable, they have the chance to cement their place as our cut-price forward of choice over the festive period.

Liverpool’s recovery as the Black Cats pay visit…
Brendan Rodgers’ side have registered back-to-back wins for the first time this season and are hinting at a return to form as Sunderland arrive at Anfield. The return of Lucas to the starting XI seems to have stabilised the Reds and saw Steven Gerrard, Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson all get amongst the goals in midweek. Aside from their midweek loss to City, Gus Poyet’s troops have looked tough to break down but another win for the home side may yet bring their assets back onto our radars.

Arsenal’s defence at the Britannia…
With three clean sheets in all competitions, the Gunners are finally hinting at a return to the form of 2013/14. Arsenal racked up 17 shut-outs last time around – second only to Chelsea – and the return of Laurent Koscielny seems to have steadied the ship in recent matches, suggesting they could be worthy of consideration again. Mathieu Debuchy’s imminent return could spell bad news for Calum Chambers owners and, at just 5.2, the Frenchman may well play his way into our plans once fully fit.

Benteke against the Foxes…
A first goal of the season at Palace on Tuesday could just be the spark the Villa forward needs. Up against a Leicester side with just one clean sheet in ten and devoid of suspended skipper Wes Morgan, Benteke is handed the perfect opportunity to notch again this weekend. With so much time spent on the sidelines, it’s easy to forget he scored 29 goals in the previous two seasons – another strike at the weekend could see him shake up our options in the mid-price bracket, with some excellent fixtures to follow.

Downing’s head-to-head with Siggy…
The duo sit second and fourth for chances created amongst midfielders this season and will be key to unlocking their opponents’ defences as the Hammers welcome Swansea to Upton Park. Owners will be looking for an improvement from the popular pair – Downing has just two home assists to his name, whilst Sigurdsson has blanked in every away match since Gameweek 1. Bearing in mind the Hammers have conceded just once in their last four at home, Siggy looks to have the tougher task here, whilst up front, Wilfried Bony’s form on the road is also a concern – he’s managed just three shots on target away from home all season.

Berahino’s form at the KC…
The West Brom youngster was a victim of his own versatility in midweek. Shifted to the left flank to accommodate Victor Anichebe up front, Berahino failed to score for the fifth successive Gameweek and with the likes of Ings and Austin offering in-form options in the same price-range, the 18%-owned Baggies forward could be on his last chance for many. A trip to Hull still offers hope of a turnaround but another blank or start on the wing should spark the exodus.

United’s assets at St Mary’s…
Slowly but surely, Louis van Gaal’s side are starting to click. Despite the loss of Angel di Maria and Wayne Rooney in midweek, United were still too strong for Stoke and racked up a fourth successive win ahead of their trip to Southampton. Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata grabbed a goal apiece in midweek, whilst Andre Herrera provided a second assist in a row – question is, can they really offer a viable alternative to the stricken Di Maria in the Red Devils’ midfield, though? The Saints’ fixture list is bad enough but with injuries also afflicting their prospects, Ronald Koeman’s side look up against it on Monday night and United could well take advantage.

I'd rather do it now if it's a good move in the long term. Besides, it's not like it's impossible for Hazard to score away, and Newcastle have something of a defensive injury crisis on their hands.

          Not really.

Spurs will play 442 this weekend. Chadli is too lumbering to close down.

          Soldado n kane up top

          LW Eriksen
          RW Lennon

2 CMs from Mason, bentaleb, Stambouli and Dembele

It's not rocket science. Chadli, the goals aside has been very average and has contributed naught to our style of play. The team is coming around to Poch's thinking. He will only play players with that philosophy. Will come off the bench though...

This is the same lineup they played at home to Everton this past weekend in which they won and played some of their best football of the year. It would make sense for him to go back to that well at home to Palace.

                Absolutely this!

Spurs changed shape as no way could mason and bentaleb match matic and fabregas in the centre (not many in the world could).

Poch tried to swamp midfield and attack with pace. It wasn't enough. 2 bad mistakes from lloris and it was game over.

Against chelsea you need luck, skill and no mistakes. If any of the 3 are missing, GAME OVER.

Especially since not one, not two, but all three of Eriksen Lamela and Chadli are pretty woeful tracking back. Recipe for disaster, that is. Seems Poch learned his lesson.

I only saw highlights but spurs looked very poor to me.

I don't think they can play with two strikers unless they get another striker that can close down from the front-simple.

We won't know until this weekend though so stating your opinion as fact doesn't help debates imo.

They were poor defensively, for sure, as they have been for most of the season. I disagree though that they looked very poor in general. They for once played very well in midfield and didn't concede possession so easily. Kane was playing the JRod role to Soldado's Lambert as Poch had last year. Kane dropped pretty deep into midfield at times to hold the ball off and played off Soldado's shoulder well once they got the ball up the pitch. But of course, as you say, no one knows for sure what Poch will do with the team for this weekend and at this point it is all conjecture until he really settles on a formation and team. Or if, for that matter.

Fair enough Walsh as I say I only saw the highlights so probably missed a lot of good everton play. I didn't see much great attacking play in the highlights though and as you say defensively they were a mess (hence why I think it very possible that they will go back to 451 at the weekend or over the next couple of gws at least. Whatever you say about chadli lack of contribution (which I don't entirely agree with either) it is far more than soldado's

Yep I wouldn't mind that either. I think Chadli is a better pick than Soldado every day of the week. Soldado is just rubbish. For me, Kane as lone striker is their best line up, but managers seem to seldom change a winning formation. We'll see, Dino!!

              Whats better?

To have a player who scores 60% of the time, yet their absence contributes significantly to the exposure on the left flank.

              OR

Play Eriksen on left side, lose a bit of width, score more goals as a team and concede less.

This is why fantasy football and actual football don't always marry up. With spurs it is about attitude. There has been a revolt. Those players must either adopt the new policy (or learn to) or leave.

Absolutely with not a single doubt in my mind.

Adebayor is on way out. He called out poch, his attitude stinks and has drawn bad publicity. He and kaboul (or c and vc ironically) are dead to the spurs faithful and the management team.

Soldado could very well come good but he doesn't offer the work rate and closing down that Kane does. Ceballos is the other striker…he has pace…

Kane is a C-rate tevez. This is a crude measure of the player but at the price he's at I would expect a return every 2 games at least, whether by assist or goalscoring. He is intrinsic to play. Erikson is shining in this style also.

Here is Costa's points since his Hatty against Swansea.

    1,6,6,0,0,2,7,6,1,0

    Is he really worth 11.0?

Add his lack of Bonus points and his disciplinary record to that.

    IMO i don't think he's worth it.

He's certainly not essential - main problem is a lot of dead teams have him and as captain so if he ever does score big you will suffer. I don't have him at the moment (Rooney, Aguero and Austin) but considering getting him for Hull at home in GW15.

I didn't need to mention it, i think everyone knew mate! My point was that is he worth 11.0 when he's missed a fair chunk of games this season that's all!

Maybe. Your figures are skewed by the fact that the 3 '0's' were all games he missed through injury or suspension though.

But the reality is that if he stays healthy he's going to get 20 goals this season and playing for side that could go unbeaten all season.

I also think he's actually the perfect striker for the Xmas period. Most foreign imports hate the physical side of the Premier League and not necessarily up for a blud and thunder game on a cold wet January evening.

Costa looks like the kind of guy who'd go out into the garden in his wifebeater and shorts on Xmas day to build a snowman!

Getting 20 goals doesn't make him a good pick. Particularly if he gets a booking every other game and rarely gets bonus points.

Yeah, I was convincing myself of the same thing a few weeks back, justtbetter. Even posted similar stuff on here to what you are saying now..

Then I stopped and thought about it really hard before shipping him out. If I got rid of him it'd be for Hazard and a Chelsea defender.

But the majority of Chelsea's goals will come from him, so taking him out and replacing him with Hazard just seemed counter productive to me. Also, at the time, Chelsea weren't keeping clean sheets so one of their defenders wasn't that enticing a prospect.

I have no problem with people not owning him but I think he's going to hit some big scores and people not owning him may well end up regretting it.

Haha. Won't be going in no garden if his hamstring has anything to do with it or the fact he's facing a 3 game ban for elbowing or choking someone out.

1,6,6,-,-,2,7,6,1,- doesn't look quite as bad.

If you only count the matches in which he actually plays then he has never gone 3 matches in succession without getting at least two lots of 6 points or more.

He is hopefully fitter now than when he missed the earlier two matches, and he should be safe from being suspended for too many yellow cards for at least 5 more game-weeks.

If you can afford to have an 11.0 player sitting on the bench now and then with 6's and 7's with the odd 1's and 2's here and there then fill your boots.

        Not for me like.

Interesting thoughts though lads. Thanks for your response.

The majority of top 10k players appear to think that he is worth keeping, since his ownership by them only went down from 81% in GW13 to 60% in GW14.

And I wouldn't expect him to miss many, if any, games between now and January, since his fitness is no longer supposed to be a problem and the ten yellow cards limit is a long way off.

It is most surprising though that, having got 41 points in his first four games when he was supposed to have major fitness problems, he has only managed a meagre 29 in his seven games since then.

His form for the season as a whole has been excellent, with only Aguero and Sanchez having more points per game. But over his most recent seven, even if you discount the three that he missed, it has been somewhat disappointing. So I am now having second thoughts about whether buying him back really is the best option.

Perhaps not owning him might turn out to be a good differential!

I'd be inclined to do the opposite but a Chelsea def is a must and Costa is a goal machine. Does that answer your question?

The only easy way would be downgrade Baines and upgrade ADM.

Dump adm and downgrade one of your 7m defenders

I read that as two players, Austin Chadli and Bojan Eriksen.

      Sounds cool like that.

Would you say a Chelsea defender is essential?

Can see them keeping many clean sheets from here on in and they dont have to chase anyone or go gung ho in games.

Which Chelsea defender will make way for Luis during the Christmas period?

    Ivanovic? With Azpi right back.

Could easily be Azpi. They will all probably get a rest.

Jose loves up Azpi. I think Terry will remain in the first team though, they don't seem to have another LCB in the squad.

If vokes and ings can build on last season

      Then definitely

And head Oviedo does offer a good oop
      But let them get games..

Could b another blunder like people did by drafting Walcott too early
