Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening as Fantasy managers quickly turn their attentions to the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

After his midweek demolition of Sunderland, Sergio Aguero is head and shoulders above any other candidate as City prepare for the visit of Everton. Selected by 52% of voters so far, the Argentine – in spite of his superb season – has surprisingly blanked in three of his six home appearances and has managed only one double-figure haul at the Etihad to date. The Toffees roll up to Manchester in poor defensive form, though – without a clean sheet on their travels all season, Roberto Martinez’ side have conceded in five of the last six Gameweeks.

Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are both fancied to deliver the goods away to Newcastle. Costa has delivered more yellow cards than goals on the road (five to four) and has notched just once in his last three away trips but having missed out due to suspension in midweek, he’ll be raring to go against the injury-hit Magpies. Hazard has yet to score on his travels this season – indeed, the Belgian has managed only two assists away from Stamford Bridge all season and has blanked in each of his last four appearances on the road.

Charlie Austin’s superb home form brings the QPR top scorer into consideration, with 7% of the votes cast. The budget striker has racked up four goals and two assists in his last four at Loftus Road and, up against a Burnley side with a single clean sheet on their travels, he’s looking for a third 10+ points haul in front of his own fans which would fire the R’s out of the drop zone.

After netting Villa’s winner at Palace on Tuesday evening, Christian Benteke is amongst the favourites for a plum home clash with Leicester. The Foxes arrive without suspended skipper Wes Morgan and look unlikely to improve a defensive record which has seen them keep out their opponents in just one of the last 10 Gameweeks.

Alexis Sanchez is also in contention as the Gunners roll up to Stoke. Unlike Chelsea’s Hazard, the Chilean has delivered on the road – four of his nine league goals have arrived outside of the Emirates, suggesting he could be a real differential against a Potters side with a single shut-out since Gameweek 3.

What is wrong with me? I didn't captain Aguero in midweek and yet I still want to captain Austin over him this week!

him doing well mid week dont mean he will do well on the weekend or Austin is not.

Thoughts on these transfers after pressers, will leave me with 0 itB :

    Bony + Dummett -> Costa + Caulker (-4)

If I don't bring in Caulker, I'll have to play one of Dummett (CHE), Duff (qpr) or Wasilewski (avl) this weekend - all look like 1 pointers. Might as well take the hit for QPR's upcoming 4/6 home fixtures ?

    1. Walsh

Don't like the hit. Would rather save and start Wasilewski.

Has it been worth it ? I'm not too sure either way, but if my math is correct he averages something like 3.5 PPG at home. Against a Burnley defense at home, I think he just might be worth taking a chance on ..

would you drop baines for azpi and bring in haz for fab with welbeck.

    or
get haz in for fab, keep baines, upgrade moore to azpi but have kane and eriksen too?

    Guzan, McCarthy
    Baines, Bertrand, Chambers, Wisdom, Moore
    Hazard, Sanchez, Sigurdsson, Chadli, Boyd
    Aguero, Costa, Austin

    1 FT, 0.2 ITB, top 500 overall

Best move? My goal is to turn Bertrand into a Chelsea defender in after the Burnley game.

    A) Chadli > Downing
    B) Austin > Kane
    C) Just do Baines > Terry now

    Thanks in advance!

Morning / evening / afternoon DZers!!

For the first time this year I'm absolutely stumped as to what to do and facing a few issues:

    Forster (Fabianksi)
    Baines Chambers Hutton (Naylor Clyne)
    Hazard Sanchez Siggy Boyd (Diame)
    Rooney Austin Aguero (c)

I've already used my FT to shift Sakho > Austin but likely to face Diame and possibly Rooney on the bench. IYHO worth taking a hit to tidy up one of Baines, Diame or Rooney or should i just stick and likely have Clyne come on?

guys, which one of aston villa's fullback offer more attacking potential?

    Hutton or Cissokho??

      Cissokho by some distance.

    2. McNulty

Not much in it stats wise. Cissokho has had more hits but none on target so I would probably just get Hutton and bank the 0.2

okay thanks walsh n mcnulty. hmm, still cant decide who to choose between those two, got a feeling cissokho might score or assist against leicester, but the extra fund could really help for future transfer.

You'd be taking a big chance, Kun is on form, city are on form. Everton are leaky, even Hull breached them ffs.

I have no idea who to captain.

Tossing up between Aguero, Sanchez, Benteke and Austin.

I'm inclined towards Benteke. He is likely to do well at home against a struggling Leicester. I feel the Everton fixture will be tougher than expected for City. No doubt Aguero is always a chance for huge points, but this seems like a good opportunity to take a risk while most of the league will have Aguero captained.

    Thoughts?

For me it's between Austin and Kun.

The answer is Kun and it makes no sense to even think about it as far as I'm concerned.

ty. Bony -> Costa with exact money itb. I'm looking to break top 1k as early as possible.
And I think Everton will cause City a few problems with Martinez as manager..i trust him.

I don't see the point in spending any more than 4.5mil on a 5th mid.
Predicting their ability for attacking returns is near impossible & as a result, they almost never play.
As a result, I'd rather have my 4th defender being first off my bench because, I think I've got a much better feel on who could manage a CS.
