Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening as Fantasy managers quickly turn their attentions to the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

After his midweek demolition of Sunderland, Sergio Aguero is head and shoulders above any other candidate as City prepare for the visit of Everton. Selected by 52% of voters so far, the Argentine – in spite of his superb season – has surprisingly blanked in three of his six home appearances and has managed only one double-figure haul at the Etihad to date. The Toffees roll up to Manchester in poor defensive form, though – without a clean sheet on their travels all season, Roberto Martinez’ side have conceded in five of the last six Gameweeks.

Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are both fancied to deliver the goods away to Newcastle. Costa has delivered more yellow cards than goals on the road (five to four) and has notched just once in his last three away trips but having missed out due to suspension in midweek, he’ll be raring to go against the injury-hit Magpies. Hazard has yet to score on his travels this season – indeed, the Belgian has managed only two assists away from Stamford Bridge all season and has blanked in each of his last four appearances on the road.

Charlie Austin’s superb home form brings the QPR top scorer into consideration, with 7% of the votes cast. The budget striker has racked up four goals and two assists in his last four at Loftus Road and, up against a Burnley side with a single clean sheet on their travels, he’s looking for a third 10+ points haul in front of his own fans which would fire the R’s out of the drop zone.

After netting Villa’s winner at Palace on Tuesday evening, Christian Benteke is amongst the favourites for a plum home clash with Leicester. The Foxes arrive without suspended skipper Wes Morgan and look unlikely to improve a defensive record which has seen them keep out their opponents in just one of the last 10 Gameweeks.

Alexis Sanchez is also in contention as the Gunners roll up to Stoke. Unlike Chelsea’s Hazard, the Chilean has delivered on the road – four of his nine league goals have arrived outside of the Emirates, suggesting he could be a real differential against a Potters side with a single shut-out since Gameweek 3.

27pts in last 4 games, 3 of them being away. there's an argument to be made if we're talking from start of the season but lately he's had LOTS of shots. think he'll easily outscore fab til january WC.

otherwise, i'd hold transfer. rooney not worth shipping unless he's definitely ruled out

my brother said the same thing today and i couldn't disagree more. same argument could be made for plenty players. he hasn't scored more than 1 since GW 4 and at that, hasn't looked brilliant. also, mourinho saying that this month will be hard for him with so many games would worry me if i owned him

By the end of December though, he may well be underpriced.

    - Arsenal would sit 16th one point over relegation zone without Sanchez goals

    - Man City would sit 8th without Aguero goals

    - Chelsea would stll be 1st without Diego Costa goals

Dude I lieterally did the same as you. I captained Baines since I thought he would at least keep a clean sheet vs Hull. Aguero was going up against the team that held Chelsea. I gave Aguero the vc. Boyd first on bench since I played 4 at back because of rooneys latest news and thought. Wisdom could get a clean sheet. Worst decision I've made.

Costa has better short-term fixtures but more of a rotation risk over Christmas.

Rooney also saves 0.6 in value.

Mirallas stealing a few of them by the looks of things. I'd bench him is I had a maybe for clean sheet potential but Villa at home to Leicester looks pretty solid, as does Chambers against Stoke. Relying on attacking returns from your defender is never a good thing

I didnt buy him for one fixture. I bought him a long time ago over a run of good fixtures and yes he's not a bad defender to have to play against bigger teams but if someone else has a better fixture why should i feel the need to play baines simply becasue he's more expensive?

            I'd play Baines mate IMO,
you're asking for points on the bench there. Higher ceiling & in an open game, a penalty might just slice the cake. I'd err on the side of caution & play him.

Good luck in any case though Badger,
I'd argue that Baines has an even higher chance of PK's w/ Mirallas & his tendency to dribble in the box/outside

The Toffees are in almost full strength, this will not be a walk in the park IMO. Lukaka posing threat, Barkley & Mirallas running at defenders.
Alot of potential for Baines here

I know this past GW is a great case in point supporting the ownership of 2 Che mids, but i'd try to get Rooney/Costa up front via Oscar->Downing. It's not worth a hit, but Downing at home might be favorable to Oscar away this GW.

Or Clyne>Cresswell is worthy of consideration.

    A) Clyne to Azpi

    Morning DZers.

How's current team looking for the next few gameweeeks?

    Areas of concern:

    1. Chambers may lose his place when Debuchy is back, do a straight swap to him if that is the case?
    2. Make use of money in bank to do an upgrade? Possibly Chambers or one of the mid / forwards?
    3. Do I have enough city coverage?

0 FT, 2.4 million in bank.

    Adrian
    Baines Azpi Chambers
    Sanchez Hazard Siggy Downing
    Aguero Bony Austin

    McCarthy Naylor Hutton Boyd

    Morning DZ.

    Giroud to Bentekkers or Jovetic?

City have amazing fixtures and will score more as a team and Jovetic is in good form. Problem is that he's not nailed.

Villa can be awful but have great fixtures and you get the feeling that if they're going to score it'll be him.

    B. ADM & Bentekmonster

Probably at the expense of a good defense or balanced overall this.
You'll be with a headache every GW, (I've been there with the 352)

Wanyama to Boyd is your best move IMO, that's a great value midfield right now.

Defence does look a bit dodge to be honest... Could be a 2-1-2-1 from back 3 & GK this week... Looking good up front though, all you need to do to get a good score is captain kun .

How would you guys like this team which includes a Rooney > Benteke and Yuninho > Azpi for a -8

    Guzan
    Wisdom Chambers Azpi Tomkins Taylor
    Sanchez Haz Siggy Jedinak Boyd
    Costa Aguero Benteke

Looking for this hit to take me through to Jan 01.

    Yes or no?

No. I'd leave Rooney and Yun. If Roons out this week, I'd play Boyd and replace next week if still out.

No, -8 is too much, I'd just do the Benteke transfer if Rooney is out this weekend

I've been wondering. Anyone else remember in the summer there were suggestions Wenger saw Chambers playing at DM? Given the injuries they have there, could Debuchy's return not signal an upturn in Chambers' prospects, rather than a collapse?

Not an owner, just eyeing the potential there.

Yes for sure. Chambers will play loads of games for arsenal, i could see him turning into their "john o'shea", playing RB, LB, CB, DM... anywhere they need covr basically.

Not an owner either , but seems likely he will be called upon to "fill in" in different positions

do u mind me asking why the nasri love? had him over the years and he's awfully frustrating. always looks promising and then blah. considering benteke, only thing that worries me is villa's lack of chances. maybe that'll change now that he's back.

Any other decent MF in mid price range (7.0) other than Siggy, Downing and Chadli?

Thinking of getting Azpi or Courtois next gameweek and need to sell either Sterling or Di Maria to make it happen.

For some reason RMT is loving Henderson right now. I've checked the stats and am thoroughly unconvinced.

Henderson is a downgrade from Sterling IMO and to be honest the only Liverpool player I can rely on is Sterling.
Just hope he rediscover his form ASAP. Cheers.

I was playing scrabble one day and we looked up the word troiling as a potential word. We found it on the urban dictionary. 1 chocolate digestive to anybody who can tell me what it means without googling

Probably not. Can you wait a week and see how Sterling's ankle is?

it's nor urgent, except Sanchez keeps going up and that leaves me with 0 in the bank as it is.

I'm not 100% convinced on either Sterling or Mata at the moment. I suspect it's worth waiting. Look at Eriksen or Downing instead. Or just wait - if ADM's back next week it's a better bet than both Sterling or Mata, I'd wager.

Without a doubt, but I keep getting more uneasy not having Sanchez by the week.
