Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening as Fantasy managers quickly turn their attentions to the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

After his midweek demolition of Sunderland, Sergio Aguero is head and shoulders above any other candidate as City prepare for the visit of Everton. Selected by 52% of voters so far, the Argentine – in spite of his superb season – has surprisingly blanked in three of his six home appearances and has managed only one double-figure haul at the Etihad to date. The Toffees roll up to Manchester in poor defensive form, though – without a clean sheet on their travels all season, Roberto Martinez’ side have conceded in five of the last six Gameweeks.

Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are both fancied to deliver the goods away to Newcastle. Costa has delivered more yellow cards than goals on the road (five to four) and has notched just once in his last three away trips but having missed out due to suspension in midweek, he’ll be raring to go against the injury-hit Magpies. Hazard has yet to score on his travels this season – indeed, the Belgian has managed only two assists away from Stamford Bridge all season and has blanked in each of his last four appearances on the road.

Charlie Austin’s superb home form brings the QPR top scorer into consideration, with 7% of the votes cast. The budget striker has racked up four goals and two assists in his last four at Loftus Road and, up against a Burnley side with a single clean sheet on their travels, he’s looking for a third 10+ points haul in front of his own fans which would fire the R’s out of the drop zone.

After netting Villa’s winner at Palace on Tuesday evening, Christian Benteke is amongst the favourites for a plum home clash with Leicester. The Foxes arrive without suspended skipper Wes Morgan and look unlikely to improve a defensive record which has seen them keep out their opponents in just one of the last 10 Gameweeks.

Alexis Sanchez is also in contention as the Gunners roll up to Stoke. Unlike Chelsea’s Hazard, the Chilean has delivered on the road – four of his nine league goals have arrived outside of the Emirates, suggesting he could be a real differential against a Potters side with a single shut-out since Gameweek 3.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Reppost as typically was bottom on last page

I was playing scrabble one day and we looked up the word troiling as a potential word. We found it on the urban dictionary. 1 chocolate digestive to anybody who can tell me what it means without googling

What's up DZ? Nice change of pace from the international break, with 3 GW's in 10 days. I read a few post where people didn't like the midweek games but I love it.

Turning to this weekend, I have Siggy and Bony, is that too much Swansea for West Ham?

      11 years, 13 days ago

Not at all IMO, though I would be worried if neither bear you fruit this w/e or don't connect often
I'd opt to keep Siggy in a double up in any case & replcae Bony w/ Tekkers if no cash

Yeah, there is a bit of unrealized potential with Bony. They've got good fixtures so I'm probably going to stick for at least the next few gw's.

And yes, very interested to see if Tekkers can revert to his once prolific form

        Thanks Z!

I don't think so, West Ham aren't the best side defensively. In fact, according to some of the key stats, they are among the worst 5 in the division right now

Ahhhhh, good to hear. I knew they weren't nearly as tight defensively as last year but didn't realize they were that soft. I guess the goals at the other end make up for that.

        Cheers!

I was on the brink of Duff -> Yun, but that might just be the dullest transfer ever.

I could take out baines and tadic for any number of combos. like Koscielny and Sterling, for example. Or wait a week on the latter and get in Silva, or ADM.

      Any ideas?

Need your votes on this lads. For the next few GWs:

    A) Baines + Trippier

    B) Azpi + defender up to 5.9m

You'll need to get rid of Chambers soon, after one or two game weeks, so I think that is the best time to buy a Chelsea defender. I would recommend you to keep Clyne because removing him isn't a pressing issue in your team. Hutton covers his poor fixtures anyways.

When Clyne plays MUN,CHE,ARS,mun Hutton plays LEI,SUN,CPL,lei

I don't like doubling up on the Villa defense as well. Maybe Krul to Fabianski next week would be my move

            • 12 Years

Yea Chambers will leave soon, probably a straight swap to Debuchy - thanks for reminding me. Clyne not a pressing issue indeed, but seems a proactive move to get Azpi/Terry.

If possible, would like to not make keeper changes til January. Still a lottery

I'd save IMO, good backline for the w/e.
Those 2 FT's should slide over & see who tickles your fancy more long term

Possible downgrade of Bony to Austin, if the double up'd Swans have little returns, would be in the works for me. This would be to afford both Baines & one of JT/Azpi

Would afford you a solid front three & leaves you Baines Azpi/JT Chambers as your go-to in the back.
This also gives you wiggle room if Chambers has less gametime with Debuchy back

    Bit of a pickle:

    Baines / Bertrand / Chambers
Sanchez / Hazard (VC) / Siggy / Downing
    Aguero (C) / Bony / Austin

Subs: (McCarthy) Wisdom / Duff / Obertan

    3.1 ITB / 1 FT

    A. Bony > Costa
    B. Bertrand > Azpi / Cahill / Terry or even Ivan (Basically I want a Chelsea defender)

Kolarov will be back soon. It is silly planning ahead in December because everything changes so quickly. You might have more pressing transfers to make next week

If he keeps his place i think he is a great option, seems to be United's main man when attacking ATM. Hopefully doesn't change with Rooney and Di Maria returning.

Morning DZ. Here is my team for the game week:

    Fabianski
    Ivanovic/Baines/Hutton
    Hazard/Fabregas/Alexis/Siggy
    Kane/Austin (vc)/Kun (c)

    Foster/Boyd/Clyne/Moore

    2 FT's,1.2 million banked.

    Which option do you prefer?

    A) Ivanovic to Azpi
    B) Ivanovic to Terry
    C) Moore to Yun
    D) Any other

        Thanks 🙂

Seeing that there is no pressing transfer to make and Ivanovic might fall in value tonight or tomorrow, I think it would be a nice way to make funds. Also a heads up - Yun will be off to the Asian Cup soon

Yeah got him marked for transferring out GW20 but still think a good sub till then, better than Moore. But yes, I have Azpi. If you were picking now without any CHE I would say Azpi, just seems sideways. But if you need the cash, roll it mate. Good luck

Nice. Ivanovic > Azpi would be nice. Maintain chelsea defence while freeing up 1m plus more for next week.

Then Kane > Benteke if he performs this weekend.

Exactly my thinking. Moore might regain his place anyways now that he'll get his chance this weekend. You prefer Azpi over Terry?

        1. Shifty
          • 12 Years
          11 years, 13 days ago

Terry's lack of bonus dents his appeal. I would just get Azpi, deal with the odd rotation but they should score similar. But if willing to shelve out a little bit more for Terry, don't see much harm in that either.

D- fabregas to someone. yaya, eriksen, downing. the latter two give u the option to upgrade kane should be be benched or if someone gets hot over the month.

wouldn't look at switching ivan unless u absolutely have a plan set in stone.

moore is also an option to tomkins

      Defensively, I'm looking like this:

      Starting: Baines/Chambers/Hutton

Not completely confident that's the best way to go but that's it for the moment.

Not enough funds for Colo -> Hutton and Chadli -> Mirallas but could do your second option!

I suppose I could do your second option but do Colo -> Hutton instead of Clichy, then upgrade Chambers to Azpi if he starts losing game time in a few weeks..

        Toure --> Siggy
        Oscar --> Downing
        Naismith --> Kun? Possible

Who is your fourth striker? You know that player you are eyeballing if one of your big hitters (Aguero/Costa) gets injured...

I'm on Benteke at the moment

Oh I just re-read your post 😛 Benteke is mine also. Kinda hoping for any excuse to get him in!

I'm definitely looking at Benteke as well. Ings maybe?

        Currently have Aguero/Austin/Bony

Of course in 2 or 3 weeks some other striker could hit form.

It's been Jovetic since I first saw him.
Lukaku has been good for me also, as I've had him for his big scores

It's crate day here in NZ tomorrow. Challenge is to polish off 12 x 750ml crate of beer in a day. That's 9 litres. Wish me luck.. not in finishing the crate, but in avoiding making crazy punts on my fpl team 😛

Tricky benching decision this week - which one would you bench here?

      A) Hutton (LEI)
      B) Yun (BUR)
      C) Chambers (sto)

I will also be playing Guzan (LEI) from these teams

I'd definitely go Foster. West Ham seem to be scoring pretty consistently.

Foster, though it depends IMO on the Hammers lineup this w/e

And this doesn't really help but I don't think either keeper will get a C/S.

        Go for save points?
