Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening as Fantasy managers quickly turn their attentions to the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

After his midweek demolition of Sunderland, Sergio Aguero is head and shoulders above any other candidate as City prepare for the visit of Everton. Selected by 52% of voters so far, the Argentine – in spite of his superb season – has surprisingly blanked in three of his six home appearances and has managed only one double-figure haul at the Etihad to date. The Toffees roll up to Manchester in poor defensive form, though – without a clean sheet on their travels all season, Roberto Martinez’ side have conceded in five of the last six Gameweeks.

Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are both fancied to deliver the goods away to Newcastle. Costa has delivered more yellow cards than goals on the road (five to four) and has notched just once in his last three away trips but having missed out due to suspension in midweek, he’ll be raring to go against the injury-hit Magpies. Hazard has yet to score on his travels this season – indeed, the Belgian has managed only two assists away from Stamford Bridge all season and has blanked in each of his last four appearances on the road.

Charlie Austin’s superb home form brings the QPR top scorer into consideration, with 7% of the votes cast. The budget striker has racked up four goals and two assists in his last four at Loftus Road and, up against a Burnley side with a single clean sheet on their travels, he’s looking for a third 10+ points haul in front of his own fans which would fire the R’s out of the drop zone.

After netting Villa’s winner at Palace on Tuesday evening, Christian Benteke is amongst the favourites for a plum home clash with Leicester. The Foxes arrive without suspended skipper Wes Morgan and look unlikely to improve a defensive record which has seen them keep out their opponents in just one of the last 10 Gameweeks.

Alexis Sanchez is also in contention as the Gunners roll up to Stoke. Unlike Chelsea’s Hazard, the Chilean has delivered on the road – four of his nine league goals have arrived outside of the Emirates, suggesting he could be a real differential against a Potters side with a single shut-out since Gameweek 3.

        Kane has palace at home and some nice set of fixtures to follow and he is 3.4 cheaper which allows me to get a better defence..

              No transfers, easy captains choice. Mulling over siggi or boyd could cause a brain explosion, rather not think about that one

    so i want to get azpi in but for whom?

    If i keep clyne I might have to play double SOT at the back

    Forster (McCarthy)
    Chambers Trippier clyne (Moore NaYlor)
    downing Yaya Haz Alexis (Boyd)
    Aguero Austin Bony
    1FT, 1.6

      Brought Clyne in for 5.0 and just did Clyne->Azpi
      another transfer what was on my mind was Moore->Hutton

      Hutton/Clyne rotate pretty nicely.

    Best option here?

    A) Krul -> Guzan
    B) Krul & Bony -> Guzan & Austin/Kane
    C) Albrighton & Bony -> Eriksen & Kane

    I'd normally be massively against double Spurs attack, but CPL and BUR in the next 3 look ripe, and Kane is cheap enough to bench next week. Also, it seems a good idea to get a decent bench over the Xmas period.

    Having said that, B) enables Baines next week and A) keeps a freebie rolled over.

    Elliot
    Terry, Chambers, Hutton
    Sanchez, Hazard, Downing, Siggy
    Aguero, Costa, Bony

    Krul, Yun, Wisdom, Albrighton
    Bank 1.0m, 2 freebies

            Yeah, I think A is the safest move.

            Spurs looked decent at home to Everton though, and Palace are leaky, so I am a little tempted to gamble on C - give it 3 weeks and if they fail then I can swap 1-2 of them out again.

    What to do with this lot?

    Forster McCarthy
    Ivan Chambers Naylor Moore Duff
    Hazard Sanchez Oscar Siggy Boyd
    Aguero Rooney Austin

    1FT/ 0.2 ITB

    I switched Costa to Rooney last week and as much as I'd like to have him back, I don't think it's worth it to do it for a hit (I'd need to get rid of a Chelsea player to do it).

    1. Save the FT?
    2. Replace Duff with a Hutton (or other 4.2 defender). With Naylor out this week, my defense is looking a bit a weak so getting in someone who could keep a CS might be worth it.

      It's a good game to double up on, though it's always a big risk

        Never doubled up on anything before...how do you reckon clyne would do? I also have baines, bench him?

          Double up if u are confident. Got a double swans cs last gw.

    Saw a few baines arguments out there..and the nbnc..

    I have baines..and my view is that in any gw we should play the best 11 we think can get the most points..be it a 343 or 442.

    When choosing def..if all your other defenders have good fixtures and baines tough fixture..surely it is worth taling a risk to bench baines. Its precisely the ncnb that cause some people to benching cs..just becos they feel that they have to play baines always. Of cos you could use this mentality to ur adv and gain an edge over the other baines owners

      No point in having a 7 mil defender if he sits on your bench.

        Price should not matter when u consider playing a player esp for defender. Thats why many moan abt benched points. Sometimes it is just becos they always play the more expensive one

    Been on Aguero all week but thinking if captain Costa. Newcastle could get ripped apart even with there recent defence record.

      Costa is a differential at the top, not many have him and aguero. If he scores well so will you, don't take the risk of captaining him

    Guzan (Gilks)
    JT-Baines-Bertie (Dummett, Hutton)
    Haz-Siggy-Chadli-Downing (Marney)
    Kun-Costa-Bony

    0.7 itb; 1FT

    A) Save
    B) Marney>Boyd (Best midfielder under 5.1?)

    Any other suggestions?

        who would you get for Chadli? Not many options in that price bracket. I have Hutton (LEI) first sub for this week if Chadli is a no-show.

    Kun will get 60 if things are going well. Mind you Costa never plays full game and Chelsea stop playing when they go 2 up (typical Mou)

    Wild card team for next year as it stands. Not thinking of double game weeks.

    De Gea/Pantillimon
    Baines Ivanovic Clyne Hutton Dumet
    Siggi Chadli Hazard Sanchez Downing
    Aguero Benteke Austin

    Still 5 mil in the bank

    So the theory is that you dont take a hit for a defender but I hate my defencw for this GW!

    Forster
    Clyne trips chambers (moore naylor)

    Probably doing trips => aZpi.

    Do I play it or ship one of the SOt players for a hit?

    B) or Moore to Hutton?

      Yaya's fixtures though! You've got to keep him for the next month if you have him already I think

      B. Keep Yaya. If you don't have Sanchez by now, ride it w/out him and wait until after Boxing Day to figure out if he's essential or not. Plus Yaya seems to be on the way to his 13/14 self, if stats can be trusted.
