Andy Carroll bags a brace and assist as West Ham defeat Swansea. Diafra Sakho returns from injury to notch again, Wilfried Bony nets his seventh in nine appearances, whilst Villa’s unbeaten run stretches to five thanks to goals from defensive duo Ciaran Clark and Alan Hutton.

Carroll Breaks His Duck

Partnered by Enner Valencia up front as Sam Allardyce returned to a midfield diamond, the big target man opened his account for the campaign in emphatic fashion. Carroll was simply unplayable against the Swans and bagged two goals and an assist in the 3-1 win as Allardyce’s side triumphed for the third successive Gameweek, though with Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho also in the mix after recent injuries, the Hammers boss has considerable strength in depth to deal with the festive schedule. On this form, though, it’s difficult to see him being dislodged.

Fit-Again Sakho Back in the Goals

The Senegal striker was handed a bench role against Garry Monk’s side but, having replaced Valencia at the break in his first appearance since Gameweek 11, was amongst the goals yet again. Impressively, Sakho has now scored in seven of his eight Premier League starts, and at time when Sergio Aguero is a major doubt and Charlie Austin is suspended for the weekend, the 5.7-priced Hammers forward has to come back into the reckoning as he prepares to face Sunderland, Leicester and West Brom in the next five Gameweeks. Whilst rest and rotation may still blight his pitch time, yesterday’s display underlined his ability to deliver with limited minutes.

Another Assist for Downing

The Hammers midfielder emerged victorious in yesterday’s battle of the playmakers. Whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson blanked for the sixth successive road trip, Downing grabbed his sixth assist of the season to help the Hammers come from behind to clinch the points, and with the fixtures still favourable, a price of 6.1 continues to look outstanding value. Downing has now racked up a goal and three assists in his last five appearances and sits fifth in the midfield standings.

Bony Strikes Again

After stumbling at home to QPR in midweek, the Swansea frontman grabbed his seventh goal in nine Gameweeks at Upton Park yesterday. Owned by just 9% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, Bony’s excellent form brings him onto our radars as a possible short-term replacement for Aguero before he departs for international duties in next month’s African Cup of Nations. Priced at just 8.4 in FPL, he now faces Spurs, Hull, Villa, Liverpool and QPR in the next five, and whilst his lack of explosive potential (one double-figure haul this season) limits his potential as a captaincy contender, he looks one of the most reliable forwards around right now.

Villa Defenders in the Points

Paul Lambert’s side are now unbeaten in five after coming from behind to get the better of Leicester yesterday afternoon. Christian Benteke went into this one highly fancied, and whilst the Belgian managed an assist in the 2-1 triumph, it was Ciaran Clark and Alan Hutton who proved the unlikely goal heroes for Paul Lambert’s side.

Despite the loss of Ron Vlaar, Philippe Senderos and Nathan Baker in recent matches, Villa have now conceded just three goals in the last five Gameweeks ahead of back-to-back clashes against Man United and Swansea. With Sunderland, Palace and Leicester in the following three, though, further returns could be on the cards before the festive period is out.

Ulloa Worry for Deflated Foxes

The Argentine rolled up to Villa Park in decent Fantasy form, after serving up an assist in each of his previous two appearances. Ulloa was in the points once again for the visitors after scoring his first goal since the Gameweek 5 win over United but a first-half knock meant he was replaced at the break by David Nugent. Yesterday’s defeat means Nigel Pearson’s side have taken just two points in 10 league matches since that famous victory over the Red Devils, and with doubts over their top scorer’s availability, the Foxes could be set for further misery as they square up to City, West Ham and Tottenham next.

    Anyone considering going 'light' up top? I'm thinking a forward line of Austin, Bony, Sakho could still hold its own and the funds could be used to great use elsewhere.

        True but in struggling to pick out decent premium forwards. Costa has been off for for some time now and with his high ownership I think gains elsewhere could give me an advantage needed to climb the ranks. Rooney, jury is still out. Can't think of any others.

        Thinking of this week just dropping Kun to the bench and playing Boyd at home to save for two free ones next week but I guess it depends on the news as I'm sure if Kun is out for a month, he will drop 0.3?

        Is it just me or is Papiss Cisse looking like the real deal. And perhaps a great choice up front?

        He scored 7 goals in 465 minutes, with only 2 full 90 minute appearances. Plus he's been awarded 12 BPS already.

        At 5.7 I'm thinking he could be a great differential

          I'll admit I've been checking him as a replacement for Ings, but the limited minutes does worry me and apart from his first season, hasn't really got back to that level

            I agree, but I say he's looking close to getting back to it. Minutes ill admit are a worry, but more importantly don't appear to be an issue for him...

              11 years, 10 days ago

              That is true. His current stats are quite astounding, 22 mins = 2 goals & 12 pts. 84 mins = 2 goals & 13 pts. 38 mins = 2 goals & 12 points. The games where he plays for longer, he does worse which is confusing as he should be on fire. He's only 28/29 years old I think so shouldn't be fatigue

        In same boat as a lot this week. Many injuries & suspensions.
        Have already pulled the trigger on Fab > Hazard as didnt want to swallow price swing.
        But im planning on taking a -8 hit to field 11 this week. Please can i have some feedback on the below options. Really keen on squeezing yaya in upto ACON if Kun is out for a month

        Foster Hamer

        Bertrand Taylor Baines [Moore Chambers]

        Hazard Sanchez Siggy Boyd Downing

        Aguero Costa [Austin]

        A: Downing & Aguero > Yaya & Bony [would have to do it today]
        B: Downing & Aguero > Yaya & Dzeko [could hold for news on Kun]
        C: Boyd & Aguero > Yaya & 6.8M [Kane Cisse Eto Sakho]
        D: better option

        Going this way after tonights game:

        Krul + Chadli + Aguero -> De Gea + Yaya + Benteke

        will only be for -4

        really think Yaya could be important next GW since he wont play in UCL.

        Team would look like this:

        De Gea (Elliot)

        Clyne - Coleman - Wisdom (Chambers - Yun)

        Sánchez - Yaya Touré - Hazard - Sigurdsson (Marney)

        Cissé - Diego Costa - Benteke

        I really dont wanna rid of fab he's been consistent for me all year. So how abou these moves for Free:

        Austin > Dzeko
        Aguero > Rooney

        Guzan
        Jags, Hutton, Wisdom
        Fab, Sanchez, Downing, Haz
        Dzeko, Costa, Roopig

        Jenkinson, Chambers, Marney

        Marney will step in for fab to get me 2 points for this GW

          I wouldn't get rid of Austin or Fabs.

          Aguero and Chambers out for free.

          I did. But it was more that I really wanted that Yaya/Haz combo than an pressing need to ship out Fab.

        -4, but I think it was worth it. Who to captain?

        Foster
        Clyne - Baines - N. Taylor
        Hazard, Yaya, Sanchez, Jedinak, Boyd
        Costa - Bony
        Subs: Hutton, Wilson, Austin

        Just took a look at my PP cup rivals team with 27 pts. (mine scored 30), before the Villa game we were both on 22 pts. (me with Hutton and him with Benteke).

        How unlucky/lucky can one be? I mean, when was the last time Hutton scored a goal?

        Krul (injured) - Schmeichel

        Hutton - Reid - Wisdom - ( Alderweireld (doubt) - Chambers (Suspended)

        Hazard - Cazorla - Siggy - Fabregas(suspended) - McCarthy (doubt)

        Welbeck - Costa - Aguero( on a bike)

        0,2 ITB - 2 free transfers

        Aguero -> Rooney
        Welbeck -> Diafra Sakho
        Cazorla -> Sanchez

        any other suggestions or am I good to go after these transfers?

        Anyone else considering doubling up on Goalman and Baines?

        Might do it this week if McCarthy is back. He is key to their CS prospects.

          3 CSs in 15 is just not enough for me to commit £14mill on two defenders.

        Yaya got lucky last season. Will only get the occasional goal/assist, certainly not enough to justify his pricetag

          that’s what i thought last season(never got him), now even the bonus sistem it’s better than it was last season for him

          p.s. not buying him atm
