As managers start to utilise the depth of their first-team squads and introduce fresh legs into starting line-ups, the number of injuries was kept fairly minimal over the weekend. Unfortunately for City and Fantasy managers alike, a certain Argentine’s knee problems casts a shadow over plans for the festive period.

Aston Villa
Paul Lambert is sweating over the fitness of midfielder Ashley Westwood, who was stretchered off with a knee injury in yesterday’s win over Leicester. The Villa boss also has concerns over Tom Cleverley, who was replaced midway through the second half with a foot problem.

Leicester
Ritchie De Laet missed the trip to Villa Park due to illness, allowing Danny Simpson his first start at right-back for the Foxes. Top scorer Leonardo Ulloa notched his first goal since Gameweek 5 yesterday but was forced off at the break during the 2-1 loss at Villa due to a calf problem. After the match, Nigel Pearson explained his decision to withdraw the Argentine:

“In the challenge prior to half time he got a heavy knock with a follow-through and he didn’t fully recover from that, so we felt it was still important to still have the work rate out there with Nugent coming on for him.”

Man City
As Fantasy managers know only too well, Sergio Aguero was forced off early against Everton on Saturday evening due to a knee injury. Whilst Manuel Pellegrini has yet to make a statement since Saturday’s post-match briefing, unconfirmed reports last night suggest Aguero could miss the next month – or at least five Gameweeks, to you and me.

Initial reports suggested Fernandinho missed out through injury but further updates indicate the midfielder was simply rested from the squad to face Everton.

Newcastle
Rob Elliott has been ruled out until January with a thigh injury sustained in the weekend win over Chelsea. With first-choice stopper Tim Krul also sidelined, Jak Alnwick is poised for a stint between the sticks. Alan Pardew – who is without the suspended Steven Taylor – has also revealed skipper Fabricio Coloccini is, once again, an early injury doubt. Mehdi Abeid missed out with a recurrence of a toe problem against the Blues.

Stoke
Marc Wilson and Marko Arnautovic missed the Potters’ 3-2 home win over Arsenal with hamstring and groin problems respectively. Marc Muniesa was forced off after sustaining a hamstring injury, with post-match reports suggesting he could be sidelined for 10 days.

West Brom
Georgios Samaras missed the Baggies trip to Hull on Saturday due to illness, the club’s official Twitter feed has confirmed. After the match, Alan Irvine explained the reasons behind a couple of second-half withdrawals:

“I wanted to be as positive as possible with my changes but at half-time we had Stephane Sessegnon struggling with a tight calf and Victor Anichebe still troubled by his groin problem.”

West Ham
Carl Jenkinson is an early weekend worry for the Hammers. After serving up his second assist of the season, the right-back was forced off with a hamstring injury during the 3-1 win over Swansea.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

What do you think of this team:

      Guzan
      Azp - Clyne - Baines - Hutton
      Bolasie - Siggy - Sanchez - Haz - Downing
      Lukaku

I had austin and augero as my other forwards, but they won't be playing this week and I don't want to lose any more points....
Unless you think I should get rid of aguero and get a forward....is Roony the best choice?

obviously wait until official confirmation but unless he's out only 2 games (ridiculously unlikely) there's no reason to hold him..he's too expensive and people will be dropping him like mad

    Guzan (Hamer)

    Baines/Azpi/Wisdom/Moore (Chambers)
    Downing/Siggy/Hazard/Sanchez (Marney)
    Costa/Austin (Aguero)

    Considering either:

    Aguero > Kane & Marney > Yaya

    Aguero > Bony/Benteke/Dzeko/Sakho & Downing > Yaya

    Thoughts?

    Alright guys. Last poll.

    A) Bony
    B) Dzeko

Already got Siggy in the team. No other City player as of now (may get Yaya in a week or two).

Bony and Sigurdsson have contributed to 15/19 of Swansea's goals. They don't score much but doubling up on them shouldn't stop you.

I'd go A and think about getting Dzeko the week after perhaps.

Well, why the week after? I have a bunch of other changes/upgrades to make with the money left over (I'll have 6.1 to 6.4m left). Whoever I pick, I'll be upgrading Kane to Austin, Eriksen to Yaya and Boyd to Downing in the coming weeks.

So, I'd rather do this once 🙂 Would you still pick Bony over Dzeko?

That's my thought process. More likely to pick up bonus points I feel.

Only reason I haven't pulled the trigger yet is the worry of Jovetic. Where will he fit in?

Especially considering Dzeko will probably start vs Roma - will he play on the weekend anyway?

This your arse. Surely people have more intelligent words in their vocabulary than "this". I remember when Giroud wouldn't be considered at all and couldn't hit the side of a bus, then last year had a long spell in most FF teams. Falcao has only played a handful of games and got a couple of assists and a goal. We'll see....

        Great option.

The 3-5-2 with Mata in the hole probably suits him better in terms of FPL points that ADM being such a focus for the teams attack.

Mertesacker has the feet up since doing f all really in terms of winning the world cup.

Koscielny made him look good. Writing that even sounds wrong but IMO its true.

He attacks everything while Mert is caught on the balls of his feet.

That's the way the two are meant to suit each other koscielny was pretty average when mert wasn't around (with vermaelen). Mert still a top player, just does not have a right partner without kos ( who in turn starts looking average without mert)

            Exactly this^.

Koscielny is far superior in my opinion he's a real premier league defender.

Mert apparently reads the play, lol.

Don't see much of that good timingly blocks interceptions etc bog average and past his sell by date.

Celebrating that world cup he arse was so sore for winning on the bench.

Funny how these comments were nowhere to be seen last season.

How many games did Arsenal take fairly hefty hammerings last year?

The comments were there last year too.

Winning on the bench? Started 3 games from what I remember. Maybe a quick look at his defensive stats will show the light

For those of you holding your WC....what is the value (in terms of points) of holding it until the DGW's in GW34-36?

Trying to figure out if i should play it now or not. Playing it now, will allow me to save taking a -8pt hit this week, plus set myself up with solid starters for the xmas schedule.

you could lose points by saving it to be honest. Use it when you really need it

      Anything above -12

Plenty got stung using their WC for the DGW last year. Remember that the better players will plan to match your WC picks anyway. And if you overdo it with picks your team will be poor the following week.

thanks guys....leaning towards playing it. We really do not know how "juicy" the DGW fixtures will be in 4months time. 2 years ago, i was able to hold it off until DGW's and finished 227 overall. Tough call!

I asked this a fair bit relatively recently and the consensus seemed to be that a -8 was ok but if a -12 was needed most people would just WC.

You know you haven't played Pokemon in years when you forget Gary (Ash's rival from Pokemon) was Professor Oak's son.

Pokemon Red came out 16 years ago 😮
