Robin van Persie scores twice as United see off Southampton to move into third. Wayne Rooney and Dusan Tadic bag an assist apiece, whilst Graziano Pelle’s first goal since Gameweek 8 isn’t enough to prevent the Saints slipping to another defeat.

Van Persie at the double

At a time when Sergio Aguero owners are looking for a likely exit route, the United frontman stepped up with a deadly brace to fire his side into third spot last night. There’s no doubt that Van Persie has toiled under Louis van Gaal so far but his recent form suggests he may have turned the corner – that’s three goals, an assist and four bonus points in his last trio of appearances now, and at 12.4 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he is certainly affordable for those holding Aguero. Upcoming opponents Liverpool, Villa and Newcastle have all tightened up in recent outings, though, and with far cheaper options offering better form, the 2%-owned Dutchman may remain a differential for now.

Rooney Ticks Over

The England international arrived at St Mary’s in decent form, having scored in each of his last two league outings. Handed a role alongside Van Persie as Van Gaal turned to a 3-4-1-2 formation, Rooney’s dead-ball duties came to fruition after he provided the assist for the Dutchman’s second. Whilst his minutes have been diminished by suspension and injury this term, Rooney has been relatively consistent for the Red Devils – he’s now scored or assisted in six of his last eight in the league. With Radamel Falcao remaining on the bench for the 90 minutes, Rooney’s more advanced berth may well turn a few more heads, with a 10.4 price tag far easier on the budget than Van Persie’s.

Pelle Ends Goal Drought

The Italian was back amongst the goals at St Mary’s after firing his first strike in seven Gameweeks. Pelle has dropped from 8.5 to 8.1 in recent weeks as his woeful form persuaded plenty to look elsewhere but last night’s strike served a reminder of his abilities and took the Saints summer signing up to second spot amongst forwards in the FPL game. An assist from Dusan Tadic – his first points since Gameweek 8 – suggests Ronald Koeman’s main men still have the potential to deliver ahead of a run which pits them against a trio of opponents (bur, EVE, cpl) that have been far from convincing at the back.

Saints Stutter Again

It’s four matches without a clean sheet now for Ronald Koeman’s side as the stern fixtures prove a test too far. Having conceded just five times in the first 11 Gameweeks, Southampton have since shipped seven goals in the subsequent four, and with Toby Alderweireld joining the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Jack Cork in the injury room, their toils look set to continue. Koeman’s defence face Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and United in the next six and may be best avoided until the schedule smiles kindly again in Gameweek 22.

Isn't Jenks a possible injury? so you have Jenks, Aguero and Austin injured.

Id go Aguero + Austin - > Sakho + Bony and use the extra cash next week to upgrade Wanyama.

    Elliot Krul
    Yun Duff Baines Clyne Chester
    Hazard Chadli Sánchez Albrighton Sigurdsson
    Agüero Austin Bony

    Selling Aguero, Chadli & Krul

    a) Costa, Yaya & Pants / 4.5 GK
    b) Cheaper than Costa, Yaya & Guzan
    c) Costa, any mid & Guzan / any keeper if cheap mid
    d) any combo for 26.3 or less

Indeed......I'm not expecting him to play 90 mins but historically dzeko has done well against the easier teams, and I can see him filling his boots over the xmas period.

I've gone dzeko +£3m over Costa this week. Gonna be hiding behind my sofa with Costa vs Hull, but after that I'm not too worried about not owning him.

Regarding RVP, it's pretty likely that Rooney will always play(being the captain) so RVP will likely be rotated with Falcao now that he is fit.

    Right?

    A) Fabregas and Aguero --> Costa and Hazard (-4)
    B) Fabregas and Aguero --> Costa and Yaya (-4)

I already have Oscar so how about

    C) Fabregas and Aguero -and Oscar -> Costa and Yaya and Hazard (-8)

I am thinking of C - but now I am going up in my leagues I am afraid of the hit points - however having 3 from Chelsea is something I don't want (I got Oscar as a Di Maria replacement)

My other two attackers are : Bony/Rooney.

      • 15 Years
      11 years, 2 months ago

His stats are good but he's only produced attacking returns in 3 out of the 14 games he's played a part in this season. That's the only stat worth considering.

I've gone yaya mate. I know he has 4 yellows, but willing to risk it with those fixtures. He's one of those rare players where stats go out the window, as his are pretty poor but he can deliver lucky points like I've never seen. I want a part of that 🙂

Regarding ramsey, I'm actually keeping a close eye on him. If transfers go to plan I could potentially bring him in for their home game vs QPR. I would stick to Yaya for the moment though. Suspended against Roma so will be fully rested to put a woeful Leicester to the sword.

I was set on Yaya but 4 yellows and then ACON are putting me off. Would be a waste of a transfer if he gets his 5th yellow in his next game. That's where luck plays a part in this game.

              • 15 Years
              11 years, 2 months ago

True, but then on the flipside the 5th yellow may never come and you have him over five ridiculously good fixtures. Guess it's just a case of whether to risk or not.

P.S - I'll be able to ditch to pretty much any midfield when he flies off to ACON.....maybe ADM if he's back in business.

What are people doing that have both Aguero and Costa? So many different routes to take.

      I'm doing Aguero -> Bony.

Did Aguero to Bony, which allows for a Siggy to ManC mid.

Costa/Bony/Lukaku(Dzeko) will be my front 3

It's such a difficult one to call. I'm thinking either Bony, Rooney or (bit of a punt) Carroll.
