After taking a look at those teams with Strong fixtures to follow over the next four-to-six Gameweeks, we now assess those with tougher upcoming schedules. North east pair Sunderland and Newcastle face some testing times, whilst bottom two Burnley and Leicester also have little reason for festive cheer.

Newcastle

“frisking

The Magpies proved their mettle by putting an end to Chelsea’s unbeaten run last Saturday, but must now navigate a horrendous next six if they are to further their cause. Alan Pardew’s men face a tricky encounter with Everton at St James’ Park, as well as three of the toughest away trips around as they make their way to Arsenal, United and Chelsea.

With injury and suspension hitting hard, the Magpies are likely to struggle to rediscover the defensive resilience shown between Gameweeks 8-12 anytime soon, meaning that Daryl Janmaat will need to rely on his attacking raids down the right to earn his owners further returns. Further forward, those eyeing up striker Papiss Cisse after his weekend brace are advised to hold off for now whilst his minutes, and the schedule, look uncertain.

Southampton

“frisking

The Saints are struggling under the strain of expectation after their early season form, and the load could yet increase across the Christmas period. A trip to Burnley is next on the agenda and will at least afford them some respite, but beyond that things still looks unmistakably bleak – Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal make their way to St Mary’s in their next three home encounters, with a visit to Old Trafford lying in wait beyond that.

Without a clean sheet in their last four, owners of Ryan Bertrand and Nathaniel Clyne will have been weighing up an exit route, and that strategy is unlikely to change bearing in mind their imminent schedule. Graziano Pelle, meanwhile, found his scoring boots for the first time in seven appearances against United on Monday, but that return to form could be quickly curtailed, and the Italian will still be hard-tasked to reclaim the plethora of owners he has lost over recent weeks.

Stoke

“frisking

Saturday’s triumphant win over Arsenal brought a three-match losing streak to a close for the Potters, and a trip to Crystal Palace this weekend will offer them a chance to build momentum. That is sure to come in handy, however, as the fixtures then take a severe turn for the worse for Mark Hughes’ side, who meet Chelsea and Everton in their next two and also face consecutive match-ups with United and Arsenal in Gameweeks 20 and 21.

It would be fair to say that Bojan has finally found his feet at the Brittania, and the former Barcelona starlet – alongside fellow striker Peter Crouch – turned in a great advertisement for their budget forward services against the Gunners. However, both are now sure to be tested against some of the league’s tightest defences in the coming weeks, whilst the chances of the Potters’ own rearguard managing their first shutout since Gameweek 6 looks doubtful. Jon Walters’ recent renaissance – with three goals in four – may struggle to continue over that spell.

Also Be Wary Of…

Arsenal
The Gunners may have underlined their potential in last night’s mauling of Galatasaray, but managers should be cautious before jumping on board without a look at their next five fixtures, which contain three tricky away encounters at Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton. Owners of the suspended Calum Chambers will be even more tempted by the idea of getting rid of the young defender as Mathieu Debuchy returns to action, whilst the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck will have to be at their best for the Gunners to prosper over the festive spell.

Burnley
A 2-0 loss to QPR will have come as a bitter blow to Sean Dyche’s men, who had finally strung together a series of results prior to Saturday’s bottom of the table scrap. A potentially spirit-wrecking next four now awaits the Clarets, who visit Spurs and Man City on either side of home clashes with Southampton and Liverpool. With Christmas rotation on the cards, owners of George Boyd may be forced to call upon his services across those fixtures, though he is likely to struggle to replicate his timely Gameweek 14 strike. Up top, Danny Ings has fetched returns in three of his last four outings but his worth as a budget asset looks set for a stiff test.

Leicester
The Foxes are without a win since Gameweek 5, and their chances of turning that dire form around look slim over the upcoming schedule. Nigel Pearson’s side face a trip to West Ham sandwiched in between two home meetings with Man City and Spurs in their next three, and whilst Leonardo Ulloa has showed glimpses of his early season with a goal and two assists in his last three, the striker – who is expected to recover from a calf knock – will have his work cut out to maintain that form in the lead up to Christmas.

Keep Fabregas if you got him in for less than 9.3, its one week

        I bought Cesc at 9.4m... 😕

Is it only me that thinks Chelsea actually have tough games after Hull(h)?

I can keep Cesc with Hazard as double up and upgrade Boyd. It might come in handy having a strong front 8 during December.

        😕

        what's magic about 9.3?

I have chambers, moore, cesc, albrighton, aguero, and austin 😕 so need to sell 3 this week so I can start enough players. was thinking of selling aguero cesc and chambers. seem reasonable?

          Morning TW. Tough choices hey?

          Keep Austin. I am.

I think this is the week to take a hit(-4). With Citeh playing Leic it's probably the best change to break even.

morning Tina. yeah it's pretty tough, definitely keeping Austin though

how many red flags have you got in your team? with the amount of players I have out I think I basically need to take an 8pt hit

              3 Red Austin/Cesc/Kun and 1 carrot (Duff)

Problem is Heaton/Boyd/Duff(?)/Bertrand face each other and that is no good.

well you've got it easy then. 5 reds here: your three plus fabianski and chambers

that's not ideal, but I'd worry about getting 11 starters more than I would worry about having players against each other

went to doc for flu yesterday

my BP that's normally around 134/86 (for 20+ years) suddenly registered a record 160/111... then calmed to 145/101 on second reading...

hate the idea of daily meds

have to get my lazy butt to the gym if the doc would give me something that didn't make me f**king drowzy as all get out to get rid of the flu that's had me laid up for over a week... jackwagon doctor tells me he wants to come back for more liver/kidney tests while on the freaking drowzy meds that will probably muck up my kidney/liver more... he can piss off...

I like having 8 playable forwards, and also think Austin is a must-own over this period as he's 100% nailed with great fixtures and form, so I would advise you to keep him.

It's a bit of plunge into the unknown regarding Silva's form and game time though. Could leave the move for next week, but it'd mean either Dummett or Yun starting for the suspended Austin.

9.0 is my limit unfortunately 🙁 I've been eyeing off Oscar for ages, but I'm not impressed with his recent form or Chelsea's upcoming fixtures. Like many on here don't really want Ramsey and Sanchez, and Eriksen is enemy no. 1 for me atm 😛

Now that I think of it I could go Mirallas as a midfield alternative.

I would greatly appreciate some advice on my GK situation. I have a 1FT, 2.0itb, and Elliot is my 2nd GK. My 5 def's are: eve che avl wba qpr so there are no double-ups.

    A) Fabianski>Hart
    - would play Hart every fixture until GW23 (lei CPL wba BUR SUN eve ARS che).
    - GK's combined cost 10.0m
    - No backup in case of injury/suspension/fixture cancellation
    - Hart might get rested for Caballero, leaving me without a GK
    - I don't mind spending a little extra on a GK as I have cash to spend.

    B) Elliot>Pantilimon
    - rotating Fab/Pant to get these fixtures (WHM hul HUL/AVL avl qpr WHM tot BUR).
    - GK's combined cost 9.5m
    - potentially missing out on CS's by choosing the wrong GK in given GW
    - provides cover for injury or rotation
    - Pantilimon price rise incoming. I have earned 0.1 of Fabianski's price rise already and would earn 0.1 on the next rise.

Note: I was very keen on Hart before until I read Triggerlips' blog which alerted me to the Pantilimon idea, so thanks to him for that, very much appreciated. 🙂

It seems silly to keep Fabianski as a 5.1 GK when I'd only play him 3 times until GW23 if i had panti as well

if you'll keep Hart from now until season's end, get Joe Hart

I've just looked at the fixtures, and Panti-Fabianski rotate absolutely beautifully until the end of the season, so these could be my GK fixtures:

WHM hul HUL avl qpr WHM tot BUR SUN QPR WBA bur hul AVL avl HUL CPL lei sto STO eve LEI cpl

I think I'll eventually want that 0.5 too, and I would cover myself in the event of fixtures getting cancelled, which is very possible in Manchester or Sunderland

I actually prefer Hart as I'm tired of rotating GK's and losing CS's... I've scored like 15-18 points less this season by rotating than I would have had I just stuck with one clear GK, since I had Begovic-Krul and then Fab-Elliot

    1) best forward from costa, rooney, pelle, lukaku, sakho, welbeck, jovetic, dzeko?
    2) best defender to get? i'm guessing one of baines azpi or zaba?

Sakho for next two games, but then not.

Dzeko may be better for 5, but not on form yet.

I have all three of those defenders... Zaba has the best fixtures through January but may get a rest along the way.

Nice, can't fault that strategy. I'll probably give a big defense some thought on my Jan WC, since the big hitters usually get CS's in the 2nd half of the season... a defense of Clyne-Bertrand-Baines-Azpi is pretty tempting, though I'll probably end up doing something more sensible 😀

              sense... meh?

having a big defense keeps me thinking about all the great mid- and low-price options in midfield and up front... people get too caught up trying to collect every pricey player

defense in Jan WC will be something like

              Hart (with one of Krul/Panti/Foster)

1 each from Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton, Shampton... and 1 more I'll have to think on

MF ??? who needs midfielders?... come back to us Wally... come back...

              Defo: Aguero, Pelle & ???

                11 years, 10 days ago

Why do you want a 2nd 4.5 GK when hart has such good fixtures and could get a CS against anyone?

Zaba is a rotation risk imo, particularly in the easier fixtures. I think since Chadli lost form and gametime the options in midfield have dried up a bit, and now Hazard is a must-have, and getting a City attacker is key as well whereby Yaya is a key player as well.

Aguero is injured too if you hadn't noticed 😀

Btw, by "sensible" i meant "something less ballsy" rather than something "smarter" 😀
