Five more players fell victim of the Suspension Tightrope over the Gameweek 16 action. Villa’s Alan Hutton disappointed his numerous new owners by collecting a fifth yellow of the season during Saturday’s midlands derby loss at West Brom – the right-back will sit out this weekend’s visit of United before returning to action for the Gameweek 18 trip to Swansea.

In terms of Fantasy popularity, Southampton’s Graziano Pelle was the most high-profile – fortunately for his 24% of owners, the Italian will miss tonight’s cup clash with Sheffield United and will therefore be available for the weekend visit of Everton.

The same scenario applies to Newcastle’s Daryl Janmaat. Handed a fifth yellow in the 4-1 loss at Arsenal, he’ll skip Wednesday’s Capital One Cup trip to Spurs but is free to play in the weekend Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.

The cases of Tom Cleverley and Tom Huddlestone are a little more complex after both earned their fifth caution last time out. Although Villa’s on-loan Cleverley is ineligible for this weekend’s clash with parent club United, the FA have confirmed that he will still serve the one-match suspension against the Red Devils and will be available for the Boxing Day clash against Swansea.

Huddlestone earned his fifth yellow of the season in Hull’s loss to Chelsea, therefore triggering an automatic one-match ban. The midfielder was then dismissed for serious foul play in the 2-0 loss at the Bridge – which earns three more matches on the sidelines and extends his suspension to four Gameweeks. Huddlestone will therefore sit out three home fixtures (SWA, LEI, EVE) and a trip to Sunderland – he’ll next be available for action on January 4, when the Tigers face Arsenal in the FA Cup Third Round.

Villa’s Kieran Richardson is also sidelined through suspension. The midfielder was sent off for serious foul play at the weekend and will miss the next three before returning in time for the New Year’s Day showdown at home to Palace.

The Tightrope now creaks under the weight of 30 players as we head towards Gameweek 17. This week’s new entries include Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, George Boyd, Marouane Chamakh, James Chester, Cheick Tioté, Jordi Gómez, Connor Wickham, Steven Gerrard, Mario Balotelli, Ryan Mason and Ki Sung-Yeung. Balotelli now has 20 PL bookings to his name – exactly the same number as he has Premier League goals.

Diego Costa owners will be a little concerned after the Chelsea striker joined Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole on seven bookings for the season after incurring the referee’s wrath against Hull. Given that the 10-yellow card deadline is in mid-April, Costa will need to curb his enthusiasm for fear of earning another suspension further down the line.

In terms of returning players, Cesc Fabregas, Charlie Austin, Lukas Fabianski, Calum Chambers, Steven Taylor, Moussa Sissoko and Gareth Barry are all back in contention for this weekend. Barry’s caution in Gameweek 15 took him onto 99 Premier League yellows – one more and he’ll be the top-flight’s first centurion for bookings.

    I think one of the hardest decisions this GW is simply City defenders.
    With their plum fixtures over the next few GWs and not one seeming cemented, ranking in order of "nailed-on-ness", who do you reckon gents?

        Hart is a brilliant shout, at least he's the only properly nailed on one!

            They may also play him on midfield (as they've done before ) when one of the AM's plays as false nine.

            That, obviously, makes owning Kolarov sound even better, but also enhances the chances that Clichy will feature. Their best player atm, and one of the fittest players around.

    1. Sagna prepared to play at centre-half if Kompany misses out this weekend :shock:... why not Demi/Mangala?

    2. Everton reckon it'll be another 2-3 days before they know full extent of Mirallas ankle problem.... Any quotes from Bobby Brown-shoes?

    Marco Materazzi has had a good start to his coaching career in India. Probably for a big reason because he has not played himself. A story to read.

    He played only 6 games as his team Chennaiyin won the league stage. However, the top-4 then enter a knockout stage, and after his team had lost the first semi-final 0-3 away at Kerala, Materazzi decided to give himself a go in the second semi-final match, for the detriment of his team.

    First, at 1-0, he decided to take the penalty they were awarded, just to miss it and deny Chennaiyin the victory on regular time. However, Kerala own goal, and a possibly hand ball goal at the last minute brought Chennaiyin nevertheless back to 3-3 on aggregate, and extra time was played. Materazzi was decisive again: at the end of the first half of the extra time, he took two yellow cards in 2 minutes time to get himself sent off. This brought Kerala back in the game, and on the second half, they scored and went to the final with 4-3 aggregate.

          Well, it's not absolute garbage that they play either. There's Southampton, and then there's Swans and Hammers away, and Newcastle away, to, if you count that one. Those away matches are, frankly, not good.

          Compare to this:

          Leicester (a)
          CPL (h)
          WBA (a)
          Burnley (h)
          Sunderland (h)

          Or this one:

          Swans (h)
          Sunderland (a)
          Burnley (a)
          QPR (h)

      Glad this goes with what i was thinking. Stick with the straightforward transfer, drop a cheap forward that isn't producing (or playing much) for one that is and has a good fixture. There's a few options for hits i could take, but none are that appealing.

    Just wondered how people tend to prioritise their transfers in or armband choices......for me its

    1. form
    2. fixture
    3. mini league ownership
    4. overall ownership

    I've noticed a few people on here seem to make choices based on overall ownership, i.e "I need to captain Costa this week and not the other option because he has 60% ownership and that's who most people will captain".

    For me i don't take too much notice of overall rank, don't get me wrong its a nice indicator as to how well I'm performing against the majority but I'm more concerned of picking who i think will score the most points.....

      For me, it's solely a mix between 1 and 2.
      Ex: this week, Austin(c) over Sanchez for me.

      Form then fixtures, other factors usually irrelevant.

      Overall ownership isn't reason enough to go for a player, but if you can't pick between two options it can be a tie-breaker. In my case I think Bony and Giroud are equally good FPL option, but one has over 40% ownership in the top 10k and the other has 1.5%. Therefore it's basically like choosing between playing it safe or take a punt, which ofc depends on your tactics and situation.

        Yeah i can see what you're saying, I suppose I question this as the furthest I've got to is 3 on my list - i suppose that i may start to care a little more if my rank improves though and i'm already bashing my mini league!!

      'more concerned of picking who i think will score the most points.'

      That can really backfire. Like it did with aguero away to sunderland for me. I went for siggy, he got 3 points

        You live and die by the sword - I picked Austin at home to Burnley over Aguero at home to Everton and that came through.

              Me too 🙂 Austin wanted to score a lot to light up the premiership and show that he's arrived in preceding home games. Maybe he won't try as hard this week. I'm sticking with Yaya because top teams 'have to score' and lower teams can have bore draws and still be happy.

      When the stars of form and fixture are alligned. Couldn't care less about ownership. If anyone bases their captaincy choice on who owns what at this stage of the season, they need their head examining imo.

    Hi! Could anyone here help me find a picture similar to this, but without any players on the pitch? I would need if for a photoshop picture I am working on with a Chelsea theme 🙂 The main focus should be on the stadium/stance, but taken from the pitch and preferably late at night as in the picture I am linking below and fairly high resolution. Thanks! 🙂

    Didn't get to watch the game this weekend. How did Silva look? Obviously no returns but was wondering if he passed the eye test, aside from anything a heat map or stats could point out.

      It means nothing. It means he is prepared too, not that he will. Boyata has played ahead of him, so he won't play ahead of Demi.

        My view is that if Sagna is an option at CB when Mangala gets that 5th yc that strengthens Zabaleta's nailed-on-ness

    hi guys,

    2 options please??

    A) Rangel -> Zab/Demi
    B) Siggy -> Silva

    Forster
    Clyne Rangel Wisdom Chambers Moore
    Hazard Sanchez Siggy Eriksen Boyd
    Costa Rooney austin

    Baines/Clyne/Reid/Hutton/Duff
    Hazard/Fabre/Eriksen/Siggy/Downing
    Costa/Bony/Austin

    1FT & 0.5 ITB .. I have 2 options:

    Krul -> Jones/McGregor
    OR
    Clyne -> Chester/Demi

    or just keep the transfer .. suggestions are welcome!

      If you got Clyne back when he was 5.0m, I wouldn't get rid. I've had him since the start of the season and am keeping faith in him through Southampton's poor run - he's still getting forward a lot (he hit the post at the weekend), and he's expensive to buy back if you decide you want him in January.

      I don't think it's worth wasting a transfer on a keeper swap this close to the January wildcard. I'd probably hold the transfer as you never know if it might be more useful next week.

    Have 1 FT and 5.0m in the bank. Team is:

    Foster/Guzan
    Ivan/Clyne/Naylor/Wisdom/Duff
    Sanchez/Hazard/Siggy/Downing/Boyd
    Costa/Bony/Austin

    Where can that extra 5m be put to best use? I'm thinking upgrade Boyd to someone in the Eriksen/Silva price bracket, but then that does leave me a decision every week as to which of my front eight to drop. Perhaps not such a bad thing over the busy festive period when some players are likely to be rested? Other option would be upgrading a cheap defender to Baines, although if doing this would probably hold off until after Everton have been to Southampton. Any other recommendations welcome.
