Five more players fell victim of the Suspension Tightrope over the Gameweek 16 action. Villa’s Alan Hutton disappointed his numerous new owners by collecting a fifth yellow of the season during Saturday’s midlands derby loss at West Brom – the right-back will sit out this weekend’s visit of United before returning to action for the Gameweek 18 trip to Swansea.

In terms of Fantasy popularity, Southampton’s Graziano Pelle was the most high-profile – fortunately for his 24% of owners, the Italian will miss tonight’s cup clash with Sheffield United and will therefore be available for the weekend visit of Everton.

The same scenario applies to Newcastle’s Daryl Janmaat. Handed a fifth yellow in the 4-1 loss at Arsenal, he’ll skip Wednesday’s Capital One Cup trip to Spurs but is free to play in the weekend Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.

The cases of Tom Cleverley and Tom Huddlestone are a little more complex after both earned their fifth caution last time out. Although Villa’s on-loan Cleverley is ineligible for this weekend’s clash with parent club United, the FA have confirmed that he will still serve the one-match suspension against the Red Devils and will be available for the Boxing Day clash against Swansea.

Huddlestone earned his fifth yellow of the season in Hull’s loss to Chelsea, therefore triggering an automatic one-match ban. The midfielder was then dismissed for serious foul play in the 2-0 loss at the Bridge – which earns three more matches on the sidelines and extends his suspension to four Gameweeks. Huddlestone will therefore sit out three home fixtures (SWA, LEI, EVE) and a trip to Sunderland – he’ll next be available for action on January 4, when the Tigers face Arsenal in the FA Cup Third Round.

Villa’s Kieran Richardson is also sidelined through suspension. The midfielder was sent off for serious foul play at the weekend and will miss the next three before returning in time for the New Year’s Day showdown at home to Palace.

The Tightrope now creaks under the weight of 30 players as we head towards Gameweek 17. This week’s new entries include Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, George Boyd, Marouane Chamakh, James Chester, Cheick Tioté, Jordi Gómez, Connor Wickham, Steven Gerrard, Mario Balotelli, Ryan Mason and Ki Sung-Yeung. Balotelli now has 20 PL bookings to his name – exactly the same number as he has Premier League goals.

Diego Costa owners will be a little concerned after the Chelsea striker joined Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole on seven bookings for the season after incurring the referee’s wrath against Hull. Given that the 10-yellow card deadline is in mid-April, Costa will need to curb his enthusiasm for fear of earning another suspension further down the line.

In terms of returning players, Cesc Fabregas, Charlie Austin, Lukas Fabianski, Calum Chambers, Steven Taylor, Moussa Sissoko and Gareth Barry are all back in contention for this weekend. Barry’s caution in Gameweek 15 took him onto 99 Premier League yellows – one more and he’ll be the top-flight’s first centurion for bookings.

Yep, not good for the player, the league or fans though.

I know he's all about the money, but surely he went there thinking he'd be second choice behind Costa and would play a load of games? Drogba's return scuppered any thought of that.

It happened it Scotland a long time ago, Celtic and Rangers bought any promising players from the smaller clubs and either sold them on or let them warm pine, In a lot of cases they didn't even have to pay transfer fees, they just dangled the carrot with the higher wages they could afford and the players jumped at it.

Remy wanted to go to liverpool first and foremost, until the clubs owners pulled out. Going to chelsea to earn good money rotting on the bench was the next best option.

Salah is the odd one imo... could have been playing regularly for Liverpool but now wasting away on the bench

Following on from the last page about Chelsea's defs...

    Terry rested vs Sporting
    Azpi rested vs Hull
    Cahill - rested vs Derby
    Ivan - rested vs Derby

Getting their rest in ahead of tougher games vs sto WHM sou tot... Mourinho will want his usual back 4 for all of those games I'd reckon.

Azpil/Cahill/Ivan I agree. Wouldn't be shocked to see Terry rested for either West Ham/Southampton. They're tough games but Terry is old and 2 games in 3 days and 3 in 5 is no joke.

I'm not saying panic, I'm just saying it seems like he'll likely miss a game over the next month. There aren't very many players for top clubs who won't.

          https://twitter.com/FFScout/status/543385130061275136

Terry's already played 2 of the 6, therefore you'd expect he'll be dropped for one of the next 4, unless Mourinho was lying (Possible).

😆 You're just being silly now. It's possible you're right, it's possible I'm right but neither of us know for sure. Mourinho is quoted saying no one player will play each of the next 6 matches (Hull last weekend, the cup tonight, and the next 4), so you have to concede that it's possible he'll be rested. Saying "No he won't be rested" with no argument is ludicrous. You can look at last year, where he played every game over the festive period, and argue that the fixtures with West Ham/Southampton are too important for him to be dropped, but there is no argument that is going to be 100% certain.

I'm starting to think A Defender's Nightmare might be right

Checked City's fixtures last XMas, the only ones who played them all were Hart and Kompany

So if Kompany is fit I may buy him, if he's not I think I might avoid

The problem is I don't know who to get instead. Hart isn't really an option for me without either keeping a dropped Dawson or taking a hit

    @ Rick

Hart is a poor value. Just because Panti is doing so well for £1.6m less. We only have 1 starting slot for GK so it's the area where you should've a value player & invest more elsewhere.

Regarding Hazard not getting rested tonight, you just proved my point. Chelsea need him fit & firing for the next 4 as it's no picnic. Jose recently stated how Hazard would love a break here & there. He's the main man so can't afford lose him in this period by playing in a cup game.

    1. rickardinho
      • 11 Years
      11 years, 1 day ago

I think I've covered the value issue re: Hart already.

I had money to burn from Aguero, and with so many mid-range forwards finding their form and fixtures I think it was prudent to get Hart.

Panti might be doing well, but Hart is still the most guaranteed CS for the next 4 gw's.

Hey everyone, need some advise this week.

    Forster
    Terry, N.Taylor, Yun
    Fabregas, Erikson, Miralles, Siggy
    Rooney, Costa, Bony
    Heaton, O'Shea, Boyd, Hutton

    2M in the bank.

Considering taking a 4 point hit and do Miralles > Toure and Costa > Pozo/Kane? City have some great fixtures coming up and i need cover, would love Yaya to be the only transfer but can only afford him by losing Costa, alternatively i could just do Miralles to Silva/Nasri but not as good as Yaya!

Who to bench and who to captain out of this little lot

Yaya. Sterling. Oscar. Hazard. Alexis. Kane. Austin. Rooney

    Currently on

    Oscar bench
    Yaya captain

      I'd captain Austin

Thanks. Actually see some sense in that as QPR different kettle of fish at home and he has been quite prolific. The rest either have tough fixtures (Rooney hazard Alexis sterling) or not as reliable (sterling Kane Yaya)

Sterling was the only player above that you mentioned in both the tough fixture category and the unreliable category so you pretty much said Sterling yourself 🙂

Liverpool are turd and Sterling had the easiest chances this weekend and still blanked.

Yeah? I've always found him to be a little inconsistent in FPL, especially for City.

With Silva returning from injury slowly and no strikers I think it makes him more appealing.

He is inconsistent but in one of those games he will score more than the other 2 in all of their games. In 2 of the others he will get 2 points and get sent off in the other... inconsistent but he will outscore the other 2
