Before we proceed with today’s planned coverage here on the site I thought it would be worthwhile to state our position when it comes to the current issues facing the Fantasy Premier League game.

The majority of our visitors will be well aware of the problems that have occurred – I don’t need to go over the issues with logins, the inability for those who were not logged to change their squads and then the absence of live scores. In all honesty, I can’t add anything to what you already know about those events.

We really don’t have a wealth of “inside information” on what has occurred. I did have contact with the FPL very late on Friday after the issues they faced forced a major traffic spike on our servers. On that occasion I was informed that there were issues with login and registration which were revealed by a surge in sign-ups on Friday. I was told that work would be done overnight to hopefully rectify the problem.

At that time I was forced to concentrate on our own issues – we had to provision more servers and get Fantasy Football Scout stable once again.

That’s the last communication and information available to me. I’ve had to concentrate on our site on the opening day of the season –traditionally one of the busiest in our year. I did make efforts to get more information and I will up those efforts today.

I will try to find out more then, to hopefully get some idea on what will be done to fix the problems and the frustration amongst us all. I feel it too and I want answers and reassurance as much as anyone.

In the meantime, we are going to go about our business and deliver you some articles – not to provide distraction, not because we’re hiding information or we’re ignoring what is going on over at the FPL, but because that’s what we do here. Through all the frustration, we have to carry on what we do.

Scout Notes on yesterday’s games are in the works.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Fair enough, Mark. I think you've been appallingly unlucky with the new providers of the game. No-one would have dared to predict the subsequent goings on. I hope FPL is eventually sorted, and the stress factors return to the choice of a viable forward ...

Davies went down kind of easy for a free kick, Eagles whipped it in, Gabbidon slid in and put it in his own net.

He did go down a little easily, but it was the kind of freekick you see given a hundred times every weekend.

Kevin Davies was just being Kevin Davies yesterday - causing lots of problems for defenders and making a nuisance of himself. Managers in the premier league deal with it every week and Warnock will need to do the same.

Also noticed on MOTD,Daldleish subtly began exerting pressure on referees early, by expecting Refs in future to be generous to his players re red cards etc.Last season interestingly Arsenal & Liverpool statistically were the teams by far most favoured by referees. It will be interesting to see what happens this season (noted Song already got away with one yesterday)

Not really, I thought he was fair in what he said in that he personally didn't want to see richardson or any other player being sent off in that situation but he did agree it was a penalty, the point he made was that he would like to see parity if Liverpool had a similar scenario with one of their defenders.

No, he thought Davies should have been booked and when you look at his challenge on Paddy Kenny in the corner in the first half he was right.

He was in no way blaming Davies for our defeat. He confirmed that we capitulated in the 2nd half and that Bolton taught us a lesson that we will have to learn from pretty quickly.

Fact is that he has been given no money to spend and expected to work miracles by picking up freebies with injury-prone histories. That's not his fault and he's handled himself well up to now.

Yesterday was a complete embarrassment and humiliation as far as all us QPR fans are concerned and if a Holden, Lee, Sturridge and Elmander less bolton can do that to us then we are in a whole world of trouble.

No sponsor and kit only revealed at 3pm kickoff. Very distressing times for hoops fans. I'm already checking my diary for next season's Championship dates.

Briatore is an exceptional arsehole. Can't believe he walked out after the fourth goal went in - he just seems determined to stick two fingers up to the fans at every opportunity. All the best to you boys for what is probably going to be a long season.

Did you go to the game yesterday? I've read that you were right in it throughout the first half? As you say, sounded like you rolled over a bit.

          Was at a wedding yesterday.

Briatore has nothing but contempt for us fans anyway, so nothing new there. We played well for half an hour or so but that counts for nothing in the Premier League.

Heads dropped after the 2nd goal and we just gave up from that point on.

Investment is needed because this is essentially a good Championship side playing in the Prem. As smudge (Paul Smith) tweeted yesterday, no manager can survive in the Prem given the abysmal lack of funds Warnock has been given.

£1.25m is a joke. Can't get players fit enough and good enough to stay up in this league on that kind of budget.

Everton are going to knock seven shades of it out of us next week.

I for one am glad to see the generic RMT has performed super badly, just need a Silva 2 pointer and the 4 point hits should be raining around FPL.

At least now we should see peoples teams migrate to be individual. Worst thing that could have happened is the generic RMT do well, now we have mass panic and chaos with kneejerk transferr galore.

    Good Stuff.

Anyone else think FPL should give everyone a free transfer for the next Game Week, as a away of making up for the farce of GW1? or better yet an extra wildcard?

Then again, perhaps they should just leave it well alone, they've done enough damage changing things already.

I didn't bother signing up for any other games this year, I sort of just assumed this one would be ok (despite being over a week late, despite the crap new design). If this doesn't get any better I can see myself just giving up on fantasy football for the year. Next year I'll be a bit more wise and try a few others out.

We all know the signing in issue was a balls up of catastrophic proportions, I'm not going to go into that, it was rubbish - everyone agrees. I'm going to be the one guy to offer some praise to FPL (don't lynch me until you've at least read the rest) as I see the woods.

People talk about the fact they may consider moving across games, I ask folks to take a look at the likes of The Telegraph and Sky Sports (considered two of the biggest rivals) - no points scored for any player.

I think people are jumping on the back of one thing and making conclusions as to other when talking about "where's the live scoring gone? They've ruined the game." - that's the bit I want to mention.

I don't know this is the case, how could I, but if there's other major fantasy games who haven't been able to source their points then I'm willing to bet there must have been something wrong with the feeds coming from the Press Association to run this live scoring. Another issue, but not one held at the feet of FPL - it's everywhere.

While the login issues was atrocious, and some people might not like the new design (me, I actually quite like it), I want to praise FPL, only on the proviso my assumption is right, for going and updating points on our teams.

It's not perfect, there's obviously a lot lacking, but if that's the case it must mean that while they try and get the site up to scratch for everyone they've also likely gone and manually input all scores for Saturday to try and provide as much data as they possibly could at the same time. To me, that's a commendable job.

Everyone likes a good moan, and there is bloody loads to moan about don't get me wrong, but I like to also see some positives. So there's mine.

Yeah, like I'm saying, there's no hiding there have been major (times a bunch) issues from the FPL sign-up/sign-in errors.

And I might even not be right about this, but, if I am, I just like a little perspective on this case myself - and credit where it is due if so.

Do you agree that the lack of a 'latest points' tab is an improvement? Just takes away so much usability from the design IMO.

Where are the head to head fixtures etc?

There is just so much else that they've done wrong that it's hard to praise them.

Eh? There is a latest points tab. Here's mine: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/89/event-history/1/

Or if you're saying that isn't the "latest points" - that's just semantics to me.

Like I said, lots of issues (lots, lots, lots!) but while word has been quiet so far (which is a shame) this is a sign if nothing else that they're doing all they can*.

*Obviously, wouldn't have wanted any of the other bigger issues in the first hand.

What I mean is that last season it was easily accessible as a TAB next to transfers/my team/notes etc.

Now you have to go through 'my team' to get to it.

For me, there's no excuses. They surely knew what sort of traffic they would be expecting and should have prepared for it.

I too like some of the new aspects of the game, but when people can't change their teams in the hours leading up to the deadline, or even create a team, then everything else counts for nothing.

There was no acknowledgement from FPL of the issues to it's 1.8m users, saying what they were doing about it. Poor.

That's the main issue for me. FPL are watching sites like this, they know the concerns players have, and they chose not to acknowledge them. It would take ONE employee ten minutes to knock out a quick statement acknowledging the issues. That really isn't too much to ask, imo.

Yeah, spoken like someone truly on the pay role.

The fact the competition is crap, doesn't justify why the FPL has taken 3 steps back and produced a game that is now worse than it was 5/6 years ago.

Making whole scale changes, the night before the season went live is such a big mistake it is unreal. Surely a company like EA Sports is used to big launches for Fifa, but from the looks of it, the team in charge of FPL were the work experience guys.

Getting 'some' points into FPL is fine, but i dont buy that the stream was down, they wouldnt have dared do live scoring updating live databases on a system that was near implosion.

Not to mention the awful new design that now makes it much more laborious to find information that was clearly displayed before. Who beta tested this, EA execs who designed the fifa layouts, probably.

The only positive is that i picked my team a week in advance and am not effected other than the poor usability and lack of mates now playing as they couldn't enter a team.

If they rated this situation on a scale of 1 to 10, it would score 11. 1 being a success, and 10 being a raging failure.

I hope the top heads in FPL roll for this, it needs a team of people who know what theyre doing, not a load of marketing people who want to make it look pretty and forget about usability and how to scale for a site that has 2 million+ players in an hour.

On the pay role? Give me a break.

Do you know what I've gained out of the hundreds (probably thousands) of hours of work that I've put into this site the last 2+ years I've been contributing?

Not enough to not say things as I honestly see them (See Akers above voicing his opinion, strong than mine on the same "pay role") . The FPL issues were a catastrophe - that is my opinion.

However, apologies, I like to, at least try to, find positives and not moan (I moan a lot, don't worry) about everything, especially when I think there's things they may not be at fault for.

I agree with seeing the positives, but sometimes, when there are 200 negatives and just 2 positives that barely matter as the previous 200 totally overwhelms them, i struggle to not point the finger and want changes.

A firing or two and a perfect GW2-38 and all will be forgiven.

But for GW1, there really are very few positives that are worth giving EA Sports praise for IMO.

I agree, the lack of live scoring was clearly down to data simply not being pulled through rather than from design. If you looked at the player scores it would say 'QPR none none Bolton' pretty clearly this was a system problem rather than anything else.

Also trying to be positive, I quite like that you can drag and drop players in and out of your team. Its satisfying to be able to drag my QPR defender out of my team and dump him on the bench.

Definitely on the watchlist, but also on the backburner.

Think most people will have enough changes to make for next week without having the chance to make a defensive change that isn't essential.

And as you say, his price is pretty prohibitive when you think you could get a City, Arsenal or Liverpool defender for the same price or cheaper.

Still, I'd expect him to crop up when the wildcard RMTs start doing the rounds.

I think the answer is to use this site during the week and have your team lined up by Thursday say and make your final tweaks on Friday night/Saturday morning. Last year there was a farce with the FPL site and so I made sure that I had roughly what I wanted mid week just in case. Servers do go down and your Internet provider may have problems. I managed to get on and alter my team on Saturday morning, so the FPL site did work.

If you really want to beef, beef at the sponsors. Consumers count and lots of people having a go at them will cause the sponsors to have a go at the cretins running the FPL. Money talks louder that words here.

The moral is, get a reasonable team sorted out mid-week in case something goes wrong at their end or yours.

How are the sponsors at fault? If anything they have been screwed too as they didnt get anywhere near as many impressions due to the site being down at launch and now have their brand associated with a total disaster of a site.

The blame stops with the FPL guys who worked with EA Sports to build this abortion of a website that was built on geocities technology.

Dont get me wrong, i'll be doing subs mid week for sure, but that isn't the right solution as the deadline in saturday at 11:30, i should be able to do a transfer on saturday 11:29.

I think Everton are going to struggle this season. Like lower half of the bottom half struggle.

          Liverpool fan? 🙂

I know what you mean, they are a bit light in defence and attack, they are generally slow starters also, which wont help matters! Why am I thinking about bringing in Saha...

I am a Liverpool fan, but I don't particularly hate Everton. The Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Spurs are usually the targets of my vitriol. I just think they look weak in key areas. I feel sorry for Moyes, because he's a good manager. If Ferguson has a big say in picking the next Utd manager, I wouldn't be surprised if it's him. Fergie rates him.

I agree, very good coach on a real shoestring.

Everton have got good fixtures and a double to pencil in, so I'll be keeping a keen eye out for opportunities to bring in some of their players.

Have to ditch Gervinho today, to avoid price fall, Saha would seem a decent option for the next couple of weeks!

      I hope so.
I also hope (naively) that he'll play a few games before breaking down again - those Everton fixtures are ripe for King Louis to wreak havoc.

PRO TIP: do your team selection and transfers now, there's no guarantee FPL will be up from now until next saturday.

(the days of waiting until saturday morning until you actually knew injury news and team selection are over.)

I wouldn't say you need to do your transfers now - surely you're being flippant? If not then that's terrible advice.

That said, I will definitely factor this weekend's difficulties into my transfers for next week and won't be waiting on last minute info.

I'll be making my transfers after the Friday team news as usual - if I can't get on, I'll just look forward to having two freebies in gameweek 3 🙂

I dont think he's being serious Hazard. No-one who has any idea about would give that advice! Just hope everyone else realises that! Always be patient with your transfers. Alot can happen in one week, especially whele the transfer window is open.

Yeah I agree, I don't think he was being serious, but I think it's important to flag it up as I'm sure people will take advice from these pages - especially younger users - and it would be a shame if people acted on joke advice.

Why would you do trades before Thursday? Surely you're over reacting to what happened yesterday. It'll be back to normal next week.

And can people stop saying FPL is sh*t? It's the first time the site has soiled itself (at least I think it is), so a strike rate of once every 8 years isn't too bad.

            Nah, i know you don't have a clue 😛

De Leat actually made some excellent blocks, although he was sloppy for the penalty. More annoying is having grant holt, who seems to be getting found out at premier league level. He did absolutely bugger all.

Yeah he only had about one header and that went over the bar. Give him a few weeks. I mean, we aren't expecting Connor Wickham to do brilliantly straight away. Give him time to adjust.

Morison seemed to take the EPL like a duck to water though. What a player.

Which player are you shitting bricks about today? Mine is Drogba, i was tearing my hair out choosing between him and Malouda. AVB press conference on Friday sealed it for me and i went for Malouda. Still think Drogba will play a big part today though.

      I'm concerned about Rooney.

I knee jerked and went with Nani and the extra 2mil after the Community Shield, so definitely hoping for a quiet day from Wayne. Lots of people will have captained him, too.

Pretty much everyone left, I've got Kompany (everyone's got) and Lampard (away at Stoke).

While everyone else seems have a multiple amount of "big" players to come - some captain.

      Gameweek one won't be good.
