A tasty home tie with the bottom-of-the-table team saw Fantasy managers transfer in Arsenal players in their droves prior to today’s games, but thanks to the heriocs of Rob Green, the vast majority will be bitterly disappointed.

The West Ham keeper made a fantastic 10 saves as he kept the Gunners at bay time and again before Alex Song finally made the breakthrough for Arsene Wenger’s side with an 88th minute header.

On the back of last week’s impressive 3-0 win at Eastlands, Samir Nasri was acquired by 172,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, Marouanne Chamakh by 107,000 and Cesc Fabregas by 48,000, as many expected a rout against Avram Grant’s strugglers. Indeed, our Captain’s Poll was fairly indicative of this optimism, with all three being in the top four slots for Gameweek 10.

Song, on the other hand, was brought in by a mere 4,000 managers, despite his goal at Man City last Sunday. Bearing in mind he is owned by only 2.6% of FPL bosses, the fact he has outscored the aforementioned players shouldn’t, therefore, have too much effect on the overall team rankings.

Song has now found the net 3 times in the league already this season, and given that his previous season’s best has been 1 goal, he’s showing a fair eye for goal this time round. He seems to have been given a remit to roam further forward than he’s used to, and so far it’s paying off.

Arsenal have now won their last five games in all competitions, but are making hard work of things at the Emirates in the league of late. Their last three home matches has seen a loss and two wins by just the one goal against opponents they have been expected to dispatch of with ease. Gameweek 11 allows them the opportunity to remedy that, as Newcastle make a trip to the Emirates.

Results elsewhere mean the much-maligned Green can take no consolation at all in his display, as fellow strugglers Wolves win over Man City gives them a three point gap over the Hammers at the bottom. Still, there’s always a bright side, Rob. At least you don’t do this every week.

meh. like the torres goal i appluad nani's persistence for giving the ref a decision to make. it's gamesmanship. it's up to the ref to penalise nani if he does wrong (going down a bit easy for the penalty)

You applaud Nani and Torres?! Sorry what?!

Both cases were examples of truly shocking sportsmanship. Nani knew that he'd dived and handled the ball, and he then had the cheek to just carry on as if nothing had happened. It was truly disgusting.

i do. i'm on the south american side of the cheating arguement. aka you push your luck. and let the referees make a mistake. BUT at the same time i'd like harsher punishments for those who are clearly caught diving so there is at least a deterent. not just the odd yellow card when the ref has the balls. it's a bloody hard jobs for refs, all the more reason to push your luck imo

I have to agree with this.
Even as a Spurs fan, I can't blame Nani for doing what he is paid for.

I'll reserve my ire for Clattenburg, his lino and Gomes - all culpable imo.

He went down for a penalty (and was fouled imo), wasnt given.

It hit his hand while he was on the floor but wasnt hand ball again imo.

Gomes puts the ball down thinking it was a free kick but the ref and linesman didn't give anything, Nani runs up takes the ball and scores.

I'm a Spurs fan so naturally I'm biased but...

Don't think it was a penalty but it wouldn't of been a bad call if the ref gave it... but he didn't.

It was blatant handball and the ref should've given a free-kick... but apparently he didn't.

Gomes should know better than to put the ball down with opposition players behind him.

The ref made a total mess of the situation, the goal should not have stood... the most telling thing in the whole situation is that the linesman didn't even know what the ref was doing. Not sure how the players are meant to.

Not really. The penalty was debatable. I don't think it was a penalty but if the ref had given it wouldn't have been the worse call ever made and I probably wouldn't have given him (too) much grief. Would certainly much rather he had given the penalty than the shambles of a goal that followed.

andy85wsm you keep describing the key part of the play wrong. Nani clearly intentionally put his hand on the ball thinking it had to be a penalty. When it wasn't ruled a penalty Gomes thought it had to be a free kick for the handball, but that was not called either. Gomes thinking it's a free kick puts the ball down backs up and Nani runs over looks at the ref like, what the hell, can I play this? Ref puts his hands out as if to be saying what are you looking at me for, Nani puts it in.

      Well...

Nani burst into the box, was manhandled by Kaboul a little and went down, catching the ball with his arm and then stopping it with his hand on the assumption of the penalty award.

Clattenberg kept his arms down adamant there was no pen (but seemingly unmoved to book Nani for diving?) Gomes picked up the ball and assuming a free kick threw the ball out to hoof down field. Nani, hanging back then pounced on the ball, pausing to check the legality before punting into an empty net.
Goal scored, fervent celebration etc etc.

But what's this - The lino on the far side has his flag up.
Clattenburg sidles over to discuss with his man and promptly overrules him and gives the goal.

Seems there was a lot wrong in this goal. Just depends which offences you include and which you overlook in order to get the 'correct' outcome.
One thing is clear though, Clattenburg is going to get hammered in the media this weekend.

Yes he was. His link up play was great, he worked hard, he got his one chance on target and forced the keeper to make a good save. The only downside was a few stray passes. If you think good strikers need to score every game then *spazz face*

If he had scored that chance, then it would have been a sublime goal. Commentators didn't seem to realise how good the effort was..

As for the rest of stuff... I'm often guilty of overhyping the performances of players in my team - just ask my brother! - and even I wouldn't say that he was 'excellent' today. He had his moments was generally pretty lively, but he did lose the ball pretty regularly.

Dunno about that. 46 points so far from 10 weeks isn't exactly brilliant for a defender costing over 7.0.

Although now, with your defence seemingly sorting itself out, he could be a decent option. So long as the BP judges stop ignoring him. Still in shock at how Nani and Wilson got BPs ahead of him last weekend.

I said to Andy that he was due a 15 pointer, he's been unlucky the last 2 weeks. He might not get the 3 bps, Nani might.

Granville (and Jamsiep), yeah the Bp judges seem to hold a grudge with him. Mental considering Dunne-gate last year.

To all my fellow compatriots who dropped dempsey for fabs, look on the bright side, fabs will have a chance to redeem him self next week.

Just wished arteta started producing, i cant seem to let go of him and its costing me points.

Regardless of the legality of the goal (even though it was legit), it wasn't the game winning goal and therefore is of no consequence anyway to the end result imo

Who are the best 2 for next five out of Malouda (P 9.8 S 10.1), Fab (Just got at 11.8) and Nani (Don't have)?

Salcido is left back for Fulham right? Is he a nailed on starter. Think I need to get rid of O'Shea and maybe even Bosingwa (yeah yeah I know). I would like defenders who are nailed on and preferably attacking or going to score headers from corners.

    Maybe Salcido and Distin/Jags?

Another 2pts from Bale, 2 goals and 1 assist (which was not) in 10 games, what a fecking joke. This guy is just rubbish, lots of people can score meaningless HT in CL games(eg Bendtner), Bale get the feck out of my team

      Nope!

I'm more inclined to keep him now than before this gameweek.

Why? Because now there is only one more game before the two home games where he has a good chance to score big.
