Evening all. The FPL have this afternoon issued an apology over the recent log-in debacle and look to have made changes on the back of the weekend’s problems.

The link to the full announcement is highlighted above, so I’ll leave you to check it out for yourselves if you haven’t done so already. The first point (below) means we are all allowed free transfers from now up until the Gameweek 2 deadline on Saturday morning- compensation for many of us who were unable to make those last-minute changes from Friday evening onwards..

1. Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.

From a Fantasy Football Scout perspective, then, just to assure you- we will be resetting any of our affiliated leagues- they will all now start from Gameweek 2 to ensure a level playing field for those involved.

We’ll have more on this later…

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Suarez, Rooney and either Bent or Torres = everybody's strikeforce.

Why Rooney? West Brom was their easy winnable game, and they din't exactly make it look easy. Now the tough games arrive.

United are the best team in the league and will win most of their games and Rooney will be heavily involved in all of them. I'm swapping him for Hernandez when he's fit, because Hernandez will score more and therefore get more BPs.

I saw Cole got 3 bonus points, is this something that shows in low scoring games players like Cole and Baines are going to be high up the list with their constant runs down the wings? Thinking Baines and Cole now with 3 very cheap defenders.

I rarely post on here but this rule change is so game-changing that I need to air my views:

    1. One of the key elements (and enjoyment) of the game is picking your starting squad without the benefit of seeing any PL games and without the benefit of seeing other players teams - this rule change completely negates this skill

    2. FPL seem to think that you play gameweeks in a vacuum - no, some choose to adopt short term strategies (e.g. picking Gary Cahill / Man City players), others chose to adopt long term strategies, on the assumption that this will benefit their team in future gameweeks. The long term strategists are clearly penalised under this rule change.

    3. FPL seems to think that everyone will read/find out about this apology - clearly they won't and a significant % of players will not realise they have another wildcard. Quite rightly, they will be equally annoyed after the GW2 deadline - perhaps we'll get the option of starting scoring from gameweek 3.

    4. This is a personal view, but it's just downright wrong to move the goalposts on any competition after it has begun, technical fault or no technical fault.

    5. I await FFS comments on the above, but frankly I am of a mind to ask for my membership fee back. I won't be playing FPL this year as a result of this change which means I've spent £12.50 for no reason.

    6. In my opinion, FPL have only made this change in order to make up for the lost registrations their technical fault cost them. It is in the best interests of themseleves, not the players.

correct. great post. What are our alterntives though...I'm strongly considering packing it in as I can't be part of something so farcical and unfair but then I'm going to lose out on the enjoyment of it all too..it's a complete disaster.

      1) "skill" Lets be honest it's a lot of luck too and some people didn't get the chance to change their team before kick off

      2) Again, people didn't get to adapt any strategies in the end

      3) If people don't see this apology then they probably aren't that interested anyway

      4) Don't agree

      5) Give over

      6) Nope, it's in the interests of the players. How have FPL gained from this?

        1. Fine - but when half my league bring in Sessegnon (for example) because they've seen GW1 - is that fair?

        2. your comment doesn't mean anything

        3. how can you assume that? I play is a league

        4. Fine

        5. Great argument

        6. How have FPL gained? thousands of people will have failed to register because of their mess up, this change means they may come back as they have a mitigated disadvantage

I see what you're trying to say, but there are 37 gameweeks to go. Long-term planning is still very much a factor. Many people might just buy all the GW 1 high-scorers and for that they will be punished.

but the short term strategists will do the same again, as will the long term strategists nullifying this point. It's still only one GW after all. I agree that its annoying everyone has now seen the opening games but in the end the people with a long term strategy will still come off better.

      1. It's early days. 1 game isn't enough to go on. ie, if you think Torres, Kalou and Bosingwa will start every Chelsea game you're a fool.

      2. Anyone who picked Cahill is going to keep him.

      3. I'm sure they'll put some notification out. Either on the FPL login page. Or I think they might have some of our email addresses...

      4. The technical fault moved the goal posts. This is an attempt to move them back.

      5. Just think of it as all your misallocated bonus points, assists, etc in one go!

      6. It's a level playing field. Everyone has to deal with, more or less, the same problems and issues. So the game is still on, you just have to adapt to the curveballs it's throwing you.

Thanks for the response and, yes, in some ways I can see the benefit of changing the game. My overriding reaction to it however is that they've increased the level of confusion / f-ed off another group of players. I am in a wide range of pay money leagues, all of which will adopt different takes on how the scoring is going to work. How do I continue?

Yeah, I have Nani at the moment and considering same.

Reluctant to turn my back on the inevitable Nani point-fest one week, but Young is a) proven, and consistent in the league, b) settling into the side very, very well and c) seemingly on set-pieces, and rather good with them.

    Hi I neeed some advice
Who is a better duo at the moment:
    1) Modric & Suarez
    or
    2) Malouda & Zamora
For me I’ve currently got option two but feel it could actually be better with option one but want to see if anyone can help me see something I’m missing.

Surely it would have been fairer to allow for the option of taking a W/C this Gameweek? It would at least allow those with good teams already, the option to stick and be given an extra W/C that they can take another time when they feel they might need it...

If you replace the cocaine in this picture with unlimited transfers this is me.

However I only really need to make minor adjustments, I can understand on one level why FPL made this rule change as they must have been tsunami'd with complaints after the deadline debacle, but this is a pretty clumsy way of trying to fix it.

Suppose there is no real straight forward way of fixing it, and in this case there is no chance of pleasing all of the people all of the time. Players (like me) who are pretty well set up are feeling miffed that their planning is worthless, but if they didn't change it then all those ripped off by an error beyond their control would be pissed off too.

    what a farce-

Do I do loads of transfers and then discover they have messed up again and i lose the points?
My opponent sufferred from a sending off and three non players and two injuries but now survives that.
What aboout the people who aren't awate of this - they will be massively disdvantaged.
will price rises take place or not - this is crucial#

    Absolute Fecking Farce.

Better than taking no action at all though, isn't it?

+1, it's not the only game out there...all are unique and have their own strategies...and at least I know I can count on the other ones
