Not a bad debut for half an hour, was it? Sergio Aguero’s star turn at the Etihad Stadium has many a Fantasy manager scrambling for a way to fit him in their shiny new Wildcard team ahead of Gameweek 2. According to Roberto Mancini, he’s not even 100% fit yet. Let’s hope they give him penalties, too. Here’s the Scout Notes from last night:

Mancini Tries a 4-4-2
Roberto Mancini dropped Mario Balotelli to the bench for the home game with Swansea. Adam Johnson took the Italian’s place as new boy Gael Clichy started at left-back at the expense of Aleksander Kolarov as Mancini started with a 4-2-3-1. While there’s no doubt about the star of the show, it was noticeable that Sergio Aguero replaced Nigel de Jong upon his introduction.

This allowed City to play him alongside Edin Dzeko up top in a 4-4-2, with Yaya Toure bombing forward from a regular central midfield position. Not to take anything away from Aguero’s performance, of course, but this change in personnel and shape from Mancini helped City really take the game to the Swans. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a more prominent formation for City over the months ahead- certainly, it makes them a better proposition going forward and Aguero has already shown what returns he can offer.

Mancini’s introduction of another new boy, Stefan Savic, also saw another alteration- Joleon Lescott movd to left-back and Gael Clichy played at left midfield in place of the withdrawn Adam Johnson.

Swans Keep on Passing
Brandan Rodgers kept to his passing principles last night. Swansea had the greater possession at the Etihad Stadium and made more passes than any Premier League team over the course of Gameweek1 , but a lack of cutting edge saw the Swans swept aside. Michael Vorm’s debut in the Swansea was almost as eye-catching as Aguero’s- the new signing from Utrecht made an incredible 12 saves, with some of them outstanding stops.

Sweansea’s 4-3-3 was pretty lop-sided; Scott Sinclair was higher and wider up the pitch on the left in comparison to Nathan Dyer on the other flank. Dyer was far narrower and deeper, which enabled Angel Rangel to bomb forward down the flank on numerous occasions.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Think I was one of those who lost out from this new wildcard but it's all fun and someone had to be the loser so it's OK.

I'd like to ask whoever came up with the bp algorithm the same thing.

I had real hope this year's bps would favour those who performed the best in their respective positions, but apparently the best defenders are those who score the most goals and a goalkeeper who makes 5 saves and keeps a clean sheet hasn't performed as well as the strikers who failed to beat him. Madness!

I'm heading in this direction right now:

    Given - Vorm
Baines - Cole - Kompany - Simpson - De Laet
    Brunt - Sessegnon - Barton - Formica - Moses
    Torres - Rooney - Suarez +£0

Altenative is take a punt on Bosingwa which allows Toure in midfield.

(Torres to Aguero at some point likely - although may be best creating 0.5m in the bank for price changes to fund such a move)

    Any opinions welcome....

Couple of questions if anybody cares to answer:
N'Zogbia: Heard he was unfit and played pretty deep? Do people think he will regain fitness and be shoved up the pitched by the weekend or is it time to drop him? Hard to find a decent player in that price bracket this year.
Surman: Who? Seen him in a few teams, had a look at his stats and he took a free-kick I see? Worth a punt at 4.5?

Not just that, he's scored in three games in a row now even if two were pre-season. If he starts every week he could be a steal, but Aguero will soon swallow his points whole.

Cole, Lescott, De Laet [Enrique, Simpson]

    Moses, Silva, Sessegnon, OHara [Formica]

    Torres (C), Suarez, Bent

I've looked at the bonus, looked at the member's stats and i decree that Doosra is right regarding toure v silva. Toure offers more of a threat, equal if not better chance of bonus than Silva and is 1.5 cheaper.

Aguero is still the one to get in my opinion, but for me Toure wins the silva v toure battle.

May all change if Nasri joins.

He still got forward yesterday when they made the change.

And I don't see them adopting a 4-4-2 away from home very often. More likely is Aguero would find a slot on the wing in a 4-5-1.

Finally caught up with all that's being happening following GW1 🙂

    Taking advantage of the situation I have gone for;

    Begovic, (Vorm)

    ACole, Cahill, Baines, (Senderos, Simpson)

    Young, Silva, Larsson, Moses, (Surman)

    Torres, Suarez, A Johnson

This is my attempt at going with a balanced team. I may go Begovic to Given if he is fit. The one I'm struggling with is Aguero. Could this backfire if I don't take him now. Also not convinced about Torres but many are saying he played well and fixtures are good for him to deliver. To get Aguero in I would have to downgrade both Baines and ACole to Bosingwa and Kompany and also Larsson to 5mil mid.

What are people thought on this?

In a state? Thats a bit of an extreme, it not as if Carrick is playing centre half with Fletcher at right back. Jones and Smalling have experience playing at this level and whenever they have been asked to step up for their team and perform they always have. This is very much premature but this could prove the catylst for both/either of those players to kick on and take Rio's position in the statring lineup. I cant see Spurs knocking many past Utd even if they do score.

The Chelsea defender problem. Currently have Bosingwa. Do I:

    a) stick with him, and deal with rotation when necessary
    b) use my spare 0.5m to upgrade to Alex
