Before we draw a line firmly under the first Gameweek, we’ve decided to analyse some individual performances over the weekend. By looking at the Opta stats of Fernando Torres, we can see what his Sunday showing at the Britannia offered in comparison to his average displays for the Blues last term. The same applies to Robin Van Persie- no goals from the Dutchman at St James on Saturday night, but how did his game hold up?

In this first Members article of the active Fantasy season, we also take a look at Victor Moses and Ashley Young’s Man United league debut, weighing up what the pair’s new roles this season have offered so far…

    (A) Rooney, Silva and Osman

    (B) Aguero, Young/Nani and N'Zogbia

Should I wait on Aguero? Osman a good shout for Everton cover? Young or Nani?

I just think there are too many options for City in attack. The week Aguero gets a hattrick will be followed by a week on the bench. If Tevez goes then that clears things up. Add Nasri to the mix...

With CB's both injured then Smalling has three positions to possibly play in. I imagine, Smalling will get the nod over Evans at CB, and Fabio at right back.

Yea, everytime I look at a team containing Lampard I think where are your big hitters, ahhh.... there. So where are you're good strikers? lol it might be a good gamble but I think this year there are so many good strikers and so many good cheap midfielders that Lamps is way over priced.

I'm coming round to the idea of Lampard actually... he's the same price he always is, and he's that price for a reason. 65 goals in 5 seasons, that's an average of 13 a season and one goal score for every 210 minutes he's played. Add in assists and he's either scored or assisted once every 116 minutes.

              STATS.

His points halfed last season though from before. He had some injuries, granted, but he's another year older.

If he hits form he's devastating, until then he'll not be in my plans.

In fairness, the previous season he scored 22 goals and 17 assists... pretty hard to follow up on a season like that! Compared to the season before that he actually scored almost identically in terms of points per minutes played.

Granted he is getting older, but he's still pretty damn consistent. He also doesn't even really need to be in form: penalties and corners give him plenty of opportunity for goals/assists.

As I said he's a very good player and for 10.5 or something he'd be straight in there but 12 on a midfielder atm is too much for me.

I don't think a lack of Liverpool or Arsenal coverage is an absolute disaster for the next couple of weeks. You could even argue the same for City in fact, none of the above have stellar fixtures. Having none of all three isn't ideal though.

I actually don't think it's Lampard that's crippling the team, it's the 4 mid-range midfielders that's the problem: 1 of those will be on your bench every week. I would go Sinclair and Taraabt -> Dobbie and Moses (or other 5/5.5m mids)... you could then get Suarez as your third striker and (I think) upgrade Sessegnon to Silva. Or to Toure and have money to spare.

Villa look negative but if they start scoring, everything will come from Bent and N'zogs, it may be is overkill but they're good value so each to their own.

I would stick with cole over baines.

Taarabt and Sinclair need to pull their fingers out but if they do it's a solid team.

Suarez is fixtureproof, don't listen to that. Downgrading the player who is possibly the best value player in FPL down to somebody who's unproven at this level and playing for a bad team is not the wisest idea.

        Silva, nzog, sinclair, taarabt (dyer)

        holt, torres, rooney

I don't understand how Holt has a home run with chelsea, Bolton and Man utd all away compared I would have though Suarez would be there all season for his price tag.

Why wouldn't you be convinced of Senderos? Had a solid game against Villa and there has been no indication that Jol favours someone else.

Yeah, there certainly is a risk. Senderos looked shaky (compared to Hangelands clinical play, at least) against Villa. Paniced many times with the ball.

Although this should raise up his stocks a bit:

Baird is fit and Senderos still started the last game. I doubt this will change now unless Senderos gets injured. We'll just have to keep an eye out though. 4.5 is super value for a Fulham starting def though.

Are there others like me having a Bent headache? 10 m for a striker playing in a defensive team, never mind the fixtures and his penalties. Who is gonna assist on him, Villa have 5 goals in 6 games and I would never captain him!!!

And still he is in my team. Can someone give me some input and maybe a cure for this fantasy headache?

I watched the Villa-Fulham game and that put me off Bent. He didn't get any service what so ever. He isn't really the type of player that can create a lot of opportunities for himself so the lack of balls that get him into good positions really is a concern for me.

Having said that I still have Zoggers in my team, he was shit against Fulham but their run of games is too good to pass up.

haha I am having the same problems too. With Bent, Rooney and Suarez as my front 3 I am thinking Bent as captain but it seems so wrong!

Thing is though you just gotta look at his history, played with teams facing relegation battles and still has a great goal scoring ratio. With the fixture list seems silly to leave him out.

He isnt in my team at the moment...10m in a defensive team is asking much when u have suarez\augero\torres\carrol or u can say almost prices at that range and in better attacking team..a penalty is the only way he can score or an abosulte screamer..but again u cant complet;y neg;ect them with their fixtures..i think doubling in their defence would be better at ths moment..me at that at present...other thought was on Nzogbia..then again played 67 minutes in te last match and looked nothng as such...others punt is alhbrington who isnt starting..

and yeah Agbonhlahor he is 6.5 had 12 dribbles :/..i dont knw at wht position is he being played ??

winger/ attacker was Gabby's position. He and Heskey are his suppliers. N Zog still in a new team and Alb on the bench. Suarez has Ars and then nice home game. I would captain Suarez easily. If I had him in the first game he would be my captain, but Liv has 3 of 4 away games against some tough teams.

True. I said pre season that I considered him on here. I didn't put him in my team but he's on my watch list. I got ridiculed and now people have started taking notice of him. Look at his 3 seasons before 10-11. He averages a good points total.

okay. now i have a question. lets say u have Baines in ur team.

    in GW 6-10, Everton's fixtures are MCY(A),LIV(H),CHE(A),FUL(A),MNU(H).

so if this is the case, what are u gonna do with baines? are u playing him in those weeks? he will surely concede goals, but may have some assists or goals as well.

    or

do u transfer him out before GW6?

    and

if u transfer him out before GW6, will u get him back in GW11? his price might not be 8M anymore. it might be 8.5M. will u buy him back?

I very much doubt his price will go north during those turbulent fixtures.. if anything people will want to invest the dosh elsewhere.. With Baines tho, if you have him on your squad, many consider him as a sitter for the whole season.

What do you guys think of this?

    Given, Vorm
    Bosingwa, Baines, Kompany, Enrique, Simpson
    Young, Silva, Moses, Jarvis, Dyer
    Torres, Zamora, Suarez

My gut feeling is that Drogba will come good this gameweek but my brain says torres.
WIth that said i have different options.

    A
    Torres, Zamora, Silva (above)
    B
Drogba, Odemwingie (bench this gameweek), Silva
    C
    Aguero, Drogba, Brunt

My brain says A but cant get rid of this Drogba feeling.

I had Drogs last week and he was a sub so I've taken him out. No doubt he's class but he's not likely to do much from the bench. I get the feeling that AVB likes Sturridge too and he'll increase the competition when it gets round to GW4.

You could always do Aguero, Torres, Eagles. I know Boltons fixtures are nasty but he'll take set pieces.

I have Cole and Torres from Chelsea. Additionally I have Silva and Kompany from Man City.

Exceptional article Sir P, very helpful in convincing me to captain Torres, hold on to Moses, and seriously re-consider Young in my team, I currently have Downing for the weekend, but could upgrade to Nani/Young or Silva, and I have decided to stay away from City for at least 2 games bar Kompany.

I seriously think Arsenal could be in for a hiding this week, I think in the next 4-5 games we are going to see Arsenal really struggle, Gervinho banned, Nasri and Fabregas gone, Arshavin, Ramsey and RVP are really carrying the team, I think it could be a 3-1 affair to Liverpool this weekend, maybe it's just me, I have Suarez and Downing as a result of this hunch.
