Before we draw a line firmly under the first Gameweek, we’ve decided to analyse some individual performances over the weekend. By looking at the Opta stats of Fernando Torres, we can see what his Sunday showing at the Britannia offered in comparison to his average displays for the Blues last term. The same applies to Robin Van Persie- no goals from the Dutchman at St James on Saturday night, but how did his game hold up?

In this first Members article of the active Fantasy season, we also take a look at Victor Moses and Ashley Young’s Man United league debut, weighing up what the pair’s new roles this season have offered so far…

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Ok another rework with a cheaper keeper.

    Schwarzer (Vorm)
    Cole A.-Baines (C)-Kompany (Simpson-Orr)
Silva-Young-Sinclair-Jarvis-Walters (Which one sits the bench?)
    Zamora-Torres-Holt

So any negative comments would be great and which one of my midfielders should ride the pine this week?

Interesting.. Paddy Power offer money back in the Arsenal Pool game this weekend if it ends in a score draw, which I think it will. Might be worth doing Carroll and RVP 1st GS and even do Arsenal outright to cover me if it isn't a draw.

Chelsea best of top 6 near term

    Alex Jagielka R.Johnson (Simpson DeLaet)
    Silva N'Zogbia Jarvis Moses (Tiote)

replace tiote with dyer. Tiote is a defensive mid who loves yellow cards. Cech is over priced for 7 million. I'd replace him with Given as Villa have McCleish playing defensive and have a good fixture list. Use the 2 million from this to improve the midfield.

Long term Chelsea defensive coverage seems least expensive with Cech as Cole/Terry 0.5 more and others rotational risk. Plan to bring back in Kompany for Alex,Enrique for Johnson, and Arsenal/Manu for Jagielka as the tough GWs pass. Took Dyer advice immediately, thanks.

Really Really Struggling to Decide on one of two options.

    Given
    Jagielka, Kompany, Alex, Bosingwa
    NZogbia, Taarabt, Yaya Toure
    Rooney, Aguero, Suarez

    Subs: Moses, Simpson

    Given
    Alex, Kompany, Bosingwa,
    Malouda, Taarabt, Yaya, toure, Young,
    Aguero, suarez, Heskey.

    Subs: Ward, Simpson

It think the first option is by far the strongest.
But i love the midfield of the second option,
with heskey who played really well first game.

    Advise would be Great!!!!!

I really can't make my mind up: Torres or Malouda! While it has been only one game I'm nervous Malouda may, momentarily, be having a dip in form and his early substitution will surely affect his confidence. Torres on the other hand looked sharp. However, in a game where drogba destroyed the opposition last season he could quite possible start ahead of the spaniard. So, who would YOU field between Torres and Malouda? And why? Thanks.

It all boils down to who you think will play 60+ minutes since they all have a good chance to score well given enough time on the pitch.

So given the fact that there's no easy replacement for Malouda on the left, and it's 60/40 between Torres and Drogba starting up front then I'd go for Malouda since he is around 80% to play 60+ minutes.

These are guesstimations though, so my advice is worth what you paid for it. 🙂

Torres will score... Whether it's against WBA, Norwich or both I don't know. If he can't score against those two teams then he really needs to be sold. If he can continue to build on his form from last game then he will score. Not to mention Abromovich's job will be under speculation if he doesn't win in the next two weeks.

lots of talk about lamps. could explode but most are saying 12m cost should except goals not hope for one and he'll be sitting deep with no essien/mikel. how much do you think his positioning on the pitch will effect his output and possible bonus point returns given the new system? cheers

I agree. For 12m I wouldn't even touch Lampard. I would rather go with Charlie Adam then Lamps for that kind of money. I would advise picking up Torres or Malouda for Chelsea players around that price.

Every season people ask whether Lampard "sitting deep" will affect his output. Every year he bombs into the penalty box from his deep-lying position and scores goals. Ditto Rooney: where players like that are on a notional team diagram doesn't stop them from scoring goals. Ask Leo Messi.

The question is not whether he will score for Lampard. But rather if he will score higher than Torres or Malouda. If he can't score higher than those two by the end of the season then he's not nearly worth the 12m.

It's pretty simple if you look at the history. Lampard will always end up averaging around 6PPG. In the 3 seasons where he's managed over 3000 minutes he's scored over 200 points.
People were giving the exact same reasons for not buying him 2 seasons ago when he almost broke 300.
Last season he was fairly in & out with injury. Plus he lost direct FK duties to Drogba, who won't figure as much this season.

The only thing about having Lampard is you have to stick with him. It's too hard to rearrange your team to buy whenever the feeling takes you. But he's always a captaincy option and over the course you get the season you get the points.

You're forwards are good. But Bosingwa is a potential rotation risk. I don't know if Abramovic will favor Bosingwa or Ivanovic. I don't fancy Sinclair's fixtures either but who knows he might get a couple goals. I highly doubt it though. For 6m I think there are better alternatives.

I'd say Malodour was mediocre last week, not bad. He didn't stink.

In pre-season he was a star, so one off week shouldn't matter much in the long run.

Stick him in, but make sure you have a decent sub lined up to come on for him in case of a sudden attraction to pine.

He also generally does a lot better in home games than away games. I've been singing the praises of Lampard for the last half hour, but may well end up with Malouda instead: he's probably got more potential for an explosive score than Lampard, but with less consistency.

A temporary exile mate! Living over in Oz at the moment. I'm on a working holiday visa which gives me a year here, will be leaving in December for a month or 2 in Indonesia, then hopefully on to travel/work my way around New Zealand. Imagine I'll be back in God's Own County some time in 2012.

Good result for Leeds this week (for a change!) Thank god we managed to hold onto Snodgrass. West Ham should be interesting at the weekend... I'd try find somewhere showing it but I'm visiting Sydney for a few days with the girlfriend and I don't think watching footy in the pub is what she has in mind.

Two reds didn't help in the game before last, but holding on to Snodgrass, Becchio and Gradel was a major plus.

I'm tempted to put Beckford into my team for the next couple of weeks because of my allegiance, but luckily my head rules my heart.

Enjoy Sydney and don't worry too much about the footy. Some excellent seafood restaurants there and the girls on Bondi beach are very tasty (Until they open their mouths and you hear the accent, then any semblance of a semi immediately disappears).

Have a good time in Indonesia. Some fantastic places to see there and great grub too.

      The question on everyone's mind.

I know I was tooting Malouda's horn earlier, but I'm starting to reconsider. It's not the fact he won't play that bothers me, it's the fact he's just not that good anymore. It won't matter if he plays 60 minutes if he can't do anything in that time. Aguero in 30 minutes did what no one in the league could do in 90.

Torres definitely looks the better punt, but that said, he just didn't look like scoring either. You've got to fancy Chelsea though with their next two. I'm starting to lean towards Torres. He's riskier for starting minutes, but if anyone can deliver, it'd be him.

        Tooting his horn. 😉

Malodour had a great pre-season, so I wouldn't judge him by one mediocre performance against Newcastle who were pretty stoic in defence.

But he's French, hence a bit moody and a tad unreliable, but at least he's not influenced by the smell of the pitch (See Biblotelli) or anything to do with soap. He just needs garlic, coffee and some decent cheese and he's ready to go.

Torres, on the other hand, needs the smell of the bullring to get him going, along with a lot of overpriced tapas and some occasional insults from a Portuguese manager.

        That's my take on it.

We can't judge any player by 1 gameweek. But as masses are going towards Torres and he his regaining the form no doubt Torres will be in the Team.

In which order would you pick these 3 middle:

    1. Sinclair
    2. Sessegnon
    3. Holohan

Sessegnon because he's on a better team. And because Sinclair's fixtures fixtures kind of suck after this next game week.

And last but not least the missus' Team ;0)

    Mignolet
    Cashley, Baines, Brown
    N'Zogbia, Taarabt, Sinclair, Adam, Toure
    Carroll, Torres (c)

Subs De Laet, Holt and Simpson

Just think with Arsenals depleted side and the way Andy Carroll bulleyed them last year for Newcastle he could do it again with Adam's delivery ???

    Thanks

Normally I'd say yes, but the defensive frailties, no Song, and a lack of defending set pieces make me think it's a gamble worth taking ???

I think Carroll is a good pick. I wouldn't underestimate Arsenal's defense. Vermaelen is one of the best, if not, the best centre back in the league when he's on form. Carroll is really only a threat in the air and when he has space. Other than that he should be kept under check. It's kind of why I picked Suarez, Aguero, and Torres this week. I really wanted Carroll but for me Suarez and Aguero are bargain buys and Torres should score this week (and he has better fixtures); if he really is worth the 50m he has to score.

Adam will also be a good pick for the next game. But you have to understand that after Gerrard is back he's at rotation risk. They have Aquilani, Adam, Miereles and Gerrard all who can play in the same positions. For 9m I'd rather pick Downing as his position is locked as far as I can see.

Carroll can score with his head or feet quite comfortably and the only reason he's not in my team is because Suarez is.

Arsenal's defense at full strength isn't great but as I've said repeatedly today. They have no Djourou or Gibbs, meaning that they'll have the young kid Jenkinson at left back and Koscielny at centre half. As well as this they have no Wilshire, Diaby or Song so who will be breaking up play for them?

Who are your subs? They should all be playing subs or else they're useless. Personally I like 3 but the defense is too weak.

I don't fancy Boswinga or Heskey

They shouldn't rise this week. I mean they haven't so far at least so I doubt they will. I expect their prices to rise by the end of the next week for sure. Especially if they score well.

No reason to pay 0.5 extra for Dunne, so Warnock/Young it is. Take Bosingwa and save that 0.5 million for something else.

He looked lively against Stoke, nearly bagged a goal himself. Has more license to get forward with mikel and lamps (if VB really is dropping him deeper) anchoring.

        Other than that pretty solid?
