Before we draw a line firmly under the first Gameweek, we’ve decided to analyse some individual performances over the weekend. By looking at the Opta stats of Fernando Torres, we can see what his Sunday showing at the Britannia offered in comparison to his average displays for the Blues last term. The same applies to Robin Van Persie- no goals from the Dutchman at St James on Saturday night, but how did his game hold up?

In this first Members article of the active Fantasy season, we also take a look at Victor Moses and Ashley Young’s Man United league debut, weighing up what the pair’s new roles this season have offered so far…

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

RMT Guys, I think its about right:

    Given (Vorm)
Cole, Kompany, Senderos, (De Laet, Simpson)
Cahill, Moses, Yaya Toure, Sinclair (N.Dyer)
    Torres, Suarez, Aguero.

    1M Left.

    Thoughts on my team:

    Given (Ruddy)
    Boswingwa, Baines, Kompany (simpson, gibbidon)
    Lampard, Silva, Moses, Tiote (ferguson)
    Zamora, Rooney, Suarez

Should i switch rooney to aguero and silva to young?

    thanks

Don't like Young this week, Silva is more likely to put in work every week more than Young. I could ever tell you to dump Rooney over Aguero, but I don't think Rooney will maintain that consistencies his price-tag is asking for.

Can't tell you how happy I am to finally get my team done for the week. Theres a few players that I definitely wanted to keep but I was having a hell of a time trying to make the rest of my squad fit around them but I just got it to work.

Hows everyone else doing with there teams?

    New team ditched Lampard idea

    Given Vorm

    Senderos Brown Kompany (simpson Enrique)

    Sessegram Sinclair Silva Moses (Taabaat)
    Rooney Torres Bent

Cover all the bases except Everton , but i never bother with them anyway
Will probably phse out bent and torres for suarez and kun , or maybe van persie if he starts shaping up

I like it much more 🙂

Not much to say except watch your midfield. Quite a few punts in there with Sessegnon, Taarabt and Sinclair, but I think all 3 are good choices and should come through.

Defense is great, if a little cheap, but all are starters and are solid.

Think I go it... anyone willing to RMT?

    Vorm (Ruddy)
Baines, Wes Brown, Jose E (Simpson, De Laet)
Nani (C), A Young, Adam, Larsson (Tiote)
    Suares, Torres, D Graham

1M to upgrade to Rooney, VP, or Shay G next week (depending on performance). Missing Man City players, but will likely trade Nani for Silva next week once Valencia returns (and I see how Silva performs against a stronger opponent). Have a feeling Baines will have a killer weekend... and Nani is due for a brace (or a handball goal against his favorite team - Tottenham)

Over the next few weeks, I think a 5.0m Villa defender (ie Young/Warnock) might have better chances of clean sheets than Enrique. Depends if you think you will have the spare transfer one week to change them back if you're keen on Enrique long term

Thinking if Enrique starts and Liverpool keep a clean sheet against Arsenal (even a weakened Arsenal) on the road, that his price appreciation potential will be significant. Trying to balance between high points in the ST and arbitrage opps.

team done.. gonna leave it this way incase i get blocked out tomorrow night..
    Given (Vorm)
    Bosingwa Kompany Brown (Senderos Simpson)
    Cahill Nzogbia Sinclair Sessegnon (Moses)
    Rooney Suarez Torres(c)

gonna be doing bosingwa to enrique, torres to aguero in 2 weeks so don't mind bosingwa being a short term option.. got a good bench if he does'nt play too..
only worry is benching moses.. looking at the rest of my squad i just have to.. swansea have a pretty good home record though
Cahill will leave in 4 weeks.. not gonna touch him till then(unless injured)

Modric is a great player in real life...but I don't think he is a great FF player

He is like Alonso was at Liverpool, engine room, making things happen and starting moves - assisting assisters to make assists (if that makes sense?). I don't see that role changing much if he goes to Chelsea

Doesn't score that many goals or even get that many assists. His historic points totals arent that great

        ^ This.

However if Benayoun and/or Kalou go in the other direction that would certainly be interesting.

Adebayor on loan at Spurs would also be one to watch if that does happen. Shame he's not already in the game as a cut-price City forward.

Might be different at Chelsea though. He actually made quite a lot of good goal scoring chances last year but everytime he did, fools like Defoe kept missing. I remember watching a number of times because my mates had him in their teams and they were going crazy about it.

Malouda and Boswinga-yes. Torres takes too much dosh out of my team and weakens my midpark. Esp. with a fwd line with Aguero and Suarez in it.

Two CHS players as investment is a necessity I feel with these fixtures they have coming up.

I have the same and I'm happy with it in the bank. Helps if something goes wrong.

I have Silva, so if I don't like his run of fixtures or he gets an injury he can be changed with VDV, Nani etc. Quite handy to have spare cash.

True. I'm trying to get thru gw 2/3 without any trades. Will then use 2 free trades(unless we get another WC!) in gw 4.

You never know when the extra 0.5m might come in handy.

Dyer AND Ferguson is crying out to be punished.

Downgrade N'Zog for the money to upgrade Ferguson. You don't want to have such elaborate transfers planned for GW4. Guaranteed it won't play out so nicely for you.

There is something wrong with your team if you are going to do 3 trades and lose 4 points in gw 4.

You are on a WC, need to select a team that can get you thru a couple of weeks without losing points due to trading.

That BZ and NZ captaincy was just sodding annoying. Especially since my arch rival had Dempsey (c) when he scored bazillions of points in his DGW and I had BZ.

2 points. And that's AFTER doubling his points.

Zigic strained his groin during the warm-up. Another 2 point DGW captain.

Those two probably cost me a top 10000 finish.

              (1000K is a million BTW) 😉

                😳

Let's just move on. I have just finished my sessions with the psychiatrist due to gw 34 in 2011 season.

I was telling everyone on FFS to get Dempster, only to somehow get in BZ on the Saturday morning.

To make it worst, I then sold BZ in gw38 just for him to score, Coleman got a red and I lost my league with 4 points.

                I need a drink.

What do you guys think of this?

    Given, Vorm
    Bosingwa, Baines, Kompany, Enrique, Simpson
    Young, Silva, Moses, Jarvis, Dyer
    Torres, Zamora, Suarez

My gut feeling is that Drogba will come good this gameweek but my brain says torres.
WIth that said i have different options.

    A
    Torres, Zamora, Silva (above)
    B
Drogba, Odemwingie (bench this gameweek), Silva
    C
    Aguero, Drogba, Brunt

My brain says A but cant get rid of this Drogba feeling.
    Thoughts and other options welcome.

Not yet. Gone back to my original argument re set plays and the return of Micky A.

The other factor is bonus points which defenders are firmly at the back of the queue for. Hence, the risk of exp. defenders.

Happy with my super cinque of Bo, Brown, Senderos, Tate and Simpson.

I hadn't noticed Tate. Is he related to Lyle?

The factors in Bainse's favour is that he's classified as a defender (which he's pretty shit at IMO) but plays like a midfielder.

His completed passes are amazingly good and his crosses are usually very accurate, so under the new EA bonus point methodology I think (maybe hope) that he will be the BP king this season.

If the phrase "You can prove anything with statistics" is true, then Cashley getting 3 BPs last week is the ultimate proof.

I turned away from Kompany because all he's going to do it get clean sheets. The way the new bonus system works I can't see him getting too many. I changed to Shawcross who will get a lot of clean sheets, is a threat from set pieces and is more likely to get bonus points.

you have an extra 1.0 available then.

I like Shawcross but he's too impetuous for my liking.

The chances are that he'll pick up a few yellows and probably a red card sometime during the season, so he's not in my team.

This is my latest team. One of many this game week.

I've tried to go for a attacking player from UTD L'pool City and Che.

I've gone for a rotational defense and I'm happy with the balance. I need somebody to now tell me how I'm wrong. I'll leave that up to you.

    Bank 0.5

    Cashley Enrique Shawcross Senderos Simpson

    How's this looking?

    Given - Ruddy
    Kompany - Bosingwa - Brown - Senderos - Simpson
    Silva - N'Zogbia - Brunt - Sinclair - Moses
    Rooney - Torres - Suarez

All did relatively well in the EA Sports index with the exception of Torres and Moses. Don't want to play the fixtures with a super short term mindset because I want to reduce transfers as much as possible. If Torres lets me down I can force a Torres > Aguero transfer in GW4. Longer term I'd probably do Rooney > Hernandez which would allow an extra 2.0m in the bank for a defensive upgrade if Bosingwa loses his spot.

Just done some maths on last season's Opta stats in light of the PPI punishment for wasteful shots.

Strikers with a shot accuracy of less than 40% last season:
    Santa Cruz
    Gudjohnsen
    Kornilenko
    Piquionne
    Beattie
    Euell
    Gueye
    Sanli
    Varney
    Best
    Carew
    Heskey
    Moreno
    Mwaruwari
    Davies (Kevin)
    Crouch
    Ameobi (Shola)
    Zamora
    Jerome

Those with an accuracy of 60% or more (who took more than 1 shot to rule out some statistical anomalies):

    Sammon
    Johnson (Andrew)
    Sears
    Anichebe
    Noble (Ryan)
    Vela (Carlos)
    Bendtner
    Di Santo
    Agbonlahor
    Fortuné
    Johnson (Eddie)
    Løvenkrands

The others with better than 50%:
    Saha
    Boselli
    Ebanks-Blake
    Defoe
    Fletcher (Steven)
    Hernández
    Ba
    Aiyegbeni
    Biram Diouf
    Berbatov
    Bent (Darren)
    Tévez

That's an impressive job, Teddy. Well done.

I wouldn't pick my forwards solely based on that info but it's very useful to see who has a high percentage of shots on target. I reckon that the new EA stats punish any shot not on target whether it just shaves the post or is blasted into row Z.

I think I've done my theory about defenders to death but will repost a summary if you can bear the tedium of it.
