Harry Redknapp admits Luka Modric could leave, as long as he gets time to replace him. Chelsea join Arsenal in the race for Juan Mata. QPR’s new owner Tony Hernandes wants Scott Parker at Loftus Road and Theo Walcott has faith in Arsene Wenger. Here’s today’s Scribbles:

Harry Redknapp has admitted he would consider allowing Luka Modric to leave Spurs. Far as he’s concerned, though, it has to happen sooner rather than later in order to give him the time to bring in reinforcements:

He’s had his head turned. I want to see him here at the start of the year, but if he goes then you get three or four players in. They’re your options: get the money and get four players and, in all honesty, have a better team, or keep Luka, who is a fantastic player.”

“There’s no chance the chairman will sell him on the last day of the transfer window. He did that with Berbatov a few years ago and ended up with no strikers. He won’t do that again.

Redknapp reckons his move for former Arsenal forward Emmanuel Adebayor will be looked upon favourably by Spurs fans. Adebayor sparked controversy a couple of seasons back by running the length of the pitch to celebrate a goal for Man City front of the Gunners fans and Redknapp reckons that will win the Tottenham supporters over. Having already acquired William Gallas from the Gunners in his time at White Hart Lane, Redkanpp clearly doesn’t let the club’s North London rivalry affect his transfer thinking:

Arsenal fans hate him so Tottenham fans will love him. He’s got an advantage by upsetting them. He’ll be a hero.

Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the race for Valencia’s Juan Mata. The Blues have been relatively quiet in the summer transfer market so far but are aiming to pip Arsene Wenger’s side for the playmaker’s services as Andre Villas-Boas looks to bring in more creativity. Reports suggest Chelsea are on the verge of a double transfer raid on Villas-Boas’ old club Porto. Joao Moutinho and Alvaro Pereira were key components of the Portuguese club’s brilliant 2010/11 season and the Chelsea boss is determined to wrestle them away before the transfer deadline in 13 days time.

With Arsenal decimated by injuries and suspension, young Carl Jenkinson looks set to start at right-back against Liverpool on Saturday. Bacary Sagna will move to left-back to step in for the inured Kieran Gibbs and with such a depleted line-up looking likely for the Emirates match, Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez will be heading to the Gunners with plenty optimism.

Tony Fernandes’ imminent takeover of QPR’s is set to spark a host of new signings at Loftus Road. Bids for Scott Parker and Shaun Wright-Phillips are already rumoured to be lined up as Neil Warnock looks for reinforcements ahead of the end of August deadline.

It‘s been a tough old week for Arsene Wenger, but at least he has the support of Theo Walcott. The Arsenal winger expressed his faith in the Gunners boss and suggested dressing room morale hasn’t been affected by the recent Cesc Fabregas upheaval.

I am sure the boss has got players coming – I don’t know – but if you sell one of your best players I am sure he has got options coming in. But the mood is very good. We got a very good result at Newcastle I thought, especially going down to ten men.

Man City’s Nedum Onouha is a wanted man. Three Premier League club are after the full-back’s services, with Everton, Blackburn and QPR all eyeing up a bid. Onouha spent last season on loan at Sunderland but is clearly not part of Roberto Mancini’s plans for the season ahead and is set to leave the Etihad Stadium before the end of August.

Wigan have been linked with a move for Peter Odemwingie. The West Brom forward, however, used his official Twitter feed to assure Baggies fans that he will leave only for a top side. Arsenal and Spurs are also rumoured to be hovering.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Include the subs (this game is about picking a good 14 or 15, not 11).

Anyhow it looks fairly good as is. You're taking risks on Torres and Saha but we all got to gamble sometime. It's high risk - potentially high reward. Good luck.

      Good team.

As regards Sinc and Sess doing better than your other mids, it really is too tough to call. The key is that your current mid choices aren't bad ones.

I like your midfield, it's a cheap ass one due to your template strike force, but at least you have Lamps in there.

Are there any expensive mids than can be trusted right now?

    Good team overall.
Things you should do for sure:Shawcross for Woodgate to save money, Clichy to Kompany to avoid rotation, than with the woodgate money turn De laet into Brown.

Things I am doing but dont know if they will pay off:Holt to AJ, Torres to Suarez/or Bent(personally have suarez), than with the torres downgrade upgrade Yaya to Silva or ferguson to someone who actually plays.

I am leaning towards a but thinking b has more balance for the next two game weeks. I do stress out about Silva's end product. Even more so now city have the new tev and nasri. Yaya's place seems more secure even if it is deeper in midfield.

I'd possibly consider the opposite of C - Bent has good fixtures, and can be left in for a good while. But I do fancy Suarez against a weakened Arsenal.

However, I don't rate Liverpool as a team this season.

Can someone help me out with a DIY query? I'm looking at getting a bunch of these shelves:
    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70115521#/00157246/
And fix them to what used to be a doorway that's been blanked out. The backing is wood, but I have no idea how thick it is. I'm guessing about an inch.

Anyway, if I just screw this straight into the wood, would it support 36 DVDs/games ok?

I don't know the maths, but as a rough guess, I'm thinking it should hold ok.

I just can't justify the 8.0 million for Baines, when Everton are such notoriously poor starters. Plus have you seen their squad depth, in particular relating to defenders....threadbare. One would be relying on Baines to either score, assist or get bonus points rather than relying on clean sheets. Nah, can't have him at this juncture.

Everyone, this is what a mistake looks like.

You've got to have him IMO, he's so destructive, is involved in everything they do, may well be on pens/free kicks and will hoover up the BPs under the new system if the first week is anything to go by.

Incorrect about bp's, if he makes 15 passes and 5 are off target, that counts as a negative, irregardless of if the other 10 are pinpoint.

Set-pieces are up in the air.

        Everton could do anything.

Hlanaayes: it's a judgement call IMO and quite resonable to spread investment elsewhere, although given fixtures, he's in my team for now, but not quite in tune with JB that Baines is a season keeper.

I dont get why there are so many 'too heavy in defence' comments around. Unless of course people have spent excess money on players who will be on the bench. If defenders are going to score more points than attackers of the same price then get them.

For example I think I will be going with

----> Baines, Cashley, Holt and Graham

For the next few weeks. Any suggestions for a better combination for 26M so I'm not 'defence heavy'?? All players will be in first 11.

        +1

RMTs during pre-season (which is effectively what this now is) are simply "How many of these players do you have in your current squad? Please rate accordingly."

Which is interesting JB, given your 'This is what a mistake looks like' comment just above.

Frankly, if a team looks like it's built on at least a modicum of thought, more power to the player I say. I've never won FPL outright.

            Baines is in my team.

Someone says they don't want Baines.

            Ipso fatso, I say it's a mistake.

          Fletcher and Lescott?

I'd probably stick to Baines and Graham myself, but try and find a cheap midfielder that rotates for Graham's tough games.

I'm going light in midfield and heavy in attack and defence. Don't like the sound of Holt and Graham when there's about 6 high priced forwards who all look like they may explode.

That means you're missing out on all but one of Aguero, Rooney, Torres, Suarez, Bent and RvP. I'd take any of them over an expensive midfielder.

Indiviually maybe. But its all about combinations and what you can afford surely. If you'd rather Bent over say Young it doesnt mean you'd rather Bent and Phil Neville over Young and Graham (though you might)

Yeah, depends where you want to make the sacrifices to get the expensive guys in. I'm happy doing it in midfield, but can certainly see why people have gone for cheaper defenders than me.

Kompany Cashley Baines (Simpson De Laet)
Lampard Young N'Zog Moses (4.5M mid)

I've gone for the same three at the back as you. Lampard is the guy sucking your funds, but that probably means you don't need Torres. I guess I'd go with that for two weeks, then downgrade Lampard to someone and spend the money on Holt/Graham (whoever seems less likely to do well) for Aguero.

My first plan was gonna be Rooney and Young > RVP and VdV GW4 then I'll probably think about upgrading Holt/Graham. Tbh even after my little rant it will probably Baines I sacrifice when his fixtures worsen. But its not just because hes a defender and I dont want to be 'heavy'.

Totally agree, i dont get the midfield too weak, defence too heavy comments. If they score it doesn't matter where they play. The only argument is that you cant upgrade a cheap to an expensive in one transfer, but you can easily do it with two. I am going very light in midfield at the moment

Yeah people seem to forget you can save a double transfer and move loads of money from defence to attack in 1 gameweek. FWIW I am only thinking about doing it because Baines fixtures are so good and I think he will outscore most other players regardless of position

Thoughts on Set piece takers and bonus points allocation.

The contention is that set piece takers are actually at a disadvantage this year. If (?) they are penalised for failed deliveries (crosses?- look at young) and most deliveries are failures then they are penalised fairly harshly.

Interesting argument. Flawed but interesting. The greater number of balls a player has the opportunity to fire into the box the greater their chance of scoring goals and assists. I'm not about to stop picking these players just yet simply because their chances of scoring nominal bonus points may or may not be slightly diminished by the new way these points are awarded.

Didn't he say in the press conference before the last game that whoever started last Saturday might not start this week? Not that that means a thing.
You would think that if they want to keep Torres' confidence up he will start. I had Drogba last week but have Torres this. Definitely holding out for more news before finalising my team though.

    Ok new team:

    Begovic (Vorm)

    Woodgate-Baines-Kompany (Gabbidon, Simpson)

    Walters-Downing-Silva-Sinclair (Ferguson Fundraiser)

    Bent-Suarez-Torres (C)

    I downgraded Nani->Downing to do
    K.Jones->Suarez
    good call?

Woodgate will get injured sooner or later, and it sucks having to transfer in cheap defensive players.

Don't like your Fundraiser guy, but could work out for you.

Nani to Downing and Jones to Suarez is a good call in my book.

A good team, maybe lacking some Chelsea defence and United/Arsenal offensive cover (but then again, so am I)

Thnaks mate, this is a one week team as i plan to wildcard next week to get on the price increase bandwagon- a tactic i did last year to good effect.

Had Nani previously and i'm kind of edgy not having a United attcking player in my team now but just can't stretch the funds.

Ferguson got me that .5 mil i needed!

What's your team mate?be interested to see it?

Yeah, I'm currently Utd-less, but I just can't see a way of squeezing one in with everyone else I want. Utd embark on a ridiculous run of fixtures from GW11, so need at least two in by then.

Not a chance. They'll drop the other winger (Balotelli, Johnson) with Aguero through the middle for the time being.
If Tevez stays and it's Aguero-Tevez-Silva, I'd think Barry will be dropped, Yaya back in Barry's role and Nasri playing where Yaya usually is.
