As if out of sympathy for the Fantasy Premier League, or podcast recording software crashed at the death this week. Finished. Kaput.

Panic ensued – hands on head there were cries of “I can’t go through that again” from host Mark as I desperately attempted to recover our lost words. Luckily, temporary files restored, our fifty fourth episode was rescued and rebuilt like Ledley King’s knee. Hopefully it won’t collapse again next week – like Ledley King’s knee.

Within it you’ll find unusually muted tones as Mark and I dissect the events or rather “non-events” of the weekend. Frustrations vented, this week’s broadcast picks up to its usual pace and departs on an optimistic note.

Listen in and share our pain.

Am I tinkering too much with this extra wildcard?

    Hilario. Vorm
De Laet. Baines. Richards. Warnock. Senderos
    Yaya. Young. Cahill. Hoolahan. Moses
    Suarez. Graham. Aguero

    1.0 in the bank..
Could be some decent differentials in there though.

Haven't decided where to put it. That teams been completely uprooted and rearranged about 6 times in the last 2 hours.

Yeah..I'd want some sort of Chelsea in there..to be honest, you have two Everton attackers (Baines count), so I'd lose one of 'em..

Not really fussed on Chelsea, bar the defence.
Attackers are pretty much all overpriced or rotation risks imo.
Was thinking if I stuck with that I'd go Cahill> Vdv or someone else with decent fixtures next week

Why thank you sir. Don't be forgetting the brilliant Hilario though 😉
I think Vdv when fit is pretty much fixture proof. Away at Old Trafford might be a bit of an ask but I think he can bag a couple at home to City

Well it has emerged considering the loss of captain Fabregas, the imminent departure of Nasri, the lack of big new signings and a failure to win anything in recent seasons. To say we're fighting for a Liverpool for 4th is a new low in recent times.

I really do hope Arsene buys big but I can't see who he'll target. Chelsea have got their eyes on Mata now (who is also more expensive that at first). I heard Benzema a while back but I doubt we could attract him.

Jagielka/Cahill for central defensive roles will do nicely.

Truth is we lost Fabregas last season. His loss is indeed huge. Nasri only performed exceptionally for something like a 4 month period in three seasons.

Wenger has done it before, he'll do it again.

I'd say Wenger's master-plan is coming to a slow, dismal end but of course that wouldn't be a positive Gooner spirit.

I hope you're right mate. Hopefully Wilshere will come back better than ever and start to fill the gap that Cesc left.

I haven't seen any of Ryo or O-C so it'd be nice to see them playing well.

Gervinho looked rubbish against Udinese. He needs to pick up form. RVP is solid, maybe his goals can keep the engines running.

Just would like to make a few points, im a liverpool fan btw.

Nani rips teams at Old Trafford and yet i hardly see him in anybody's team.
In gw1 most bonuses went to defenders and strikers , maybe that could be a thing to consider.
Aguero has 2 tough away games which he will likely come off the bench , isn't bent or torres a better option ?
And when Aguero does play Yaya would play in a more defensive role so note that too.
From gw3 west brom have a nice run of fixtures , so i would consider long/brunt in teams.

    Goodluck for gw2 =)

He died down towards the end of last season and now Young increases his rotation risk.

He's a great player and dangerous but I'm personally waiting until SAF plays him consitently.

I'd also LOVE to know why bonus points went to defenders and not the likes of Moses or Carroll. I need to fine that out before the weekend as I've gone heavy on attacking players for the goal/assists points multiplier (base points + bonus).

      Nice points here.

      - Agree on Nani. Could be brilliant.
      - GW 1 bonus to defenders were because of the large number of 0-0s and cleansheets. Goalscorers look like they stand the most to gain.
      - Agreed on Aguero. He might still be eased in, and two tough away fixtures mean you can probably wait and see.
      - Disagree on Yaya playing a more defensive role with Aguero on the pitch. He bombs forward ala Lampard even in a 4-4-2. Plays somewhere around the tip of a diamond.
      - Agreed on West Brom. Brunt is sitting pretty in my team.

It wasn't because of the cleansheets though. That's an obvious factor but something else is significant that I can't pinpoint.

For example, Ward - second highest PPI of all defenders this week and thus 2 bonus points - conceded a goal. This example is a little isolated but even so, Cashley got 3 for just getting a cleansheet from what I can see.

Perhaps I need to look at pass/tackle quantities and success ratios.

I dont think there are any good value midfielders for 7.5 except Zogs and Dempsey is not worth 8.5 anyway. I'd have a rethink.

Maybe Downing/Yaya instead of Dempsey? Yaya would save you 0.5 mil which would mean you could get a 6m mid instead.

here is my team...what do you reckon?

    hillarious, vorm
warnock, jagielka, de laet, simpson, brown
    lampard, nzog, sinclair, moses, hoolahan
    suarez, torres, rooney

i've looked at the defenders, they rotate to leave me at least 2 decent home games per week for the next 6 or so weeks.

should leave me plenty of good captain choices for gw2 & 3.
gw4 plan to bring in aguerro & rvp.

    p.s i dont like expensive defenders 😉

Considering you don't like exp. defenders, I won't address that. It does leave you with a banging front 8 though, so well done..However, you might want a city defensive coverage tho lol. Lamps to Malou, someone to Kompany

Personally i don't particularly like your defence but you've plotted out the fixtures so grand.

Apart from that it's pretty solid. I've gone for Torres too but i'm still not 100%.
Tough to bench any of your front 8 this week, maybe consider Brunt and sub him.

True, but would many of them really of scored much higher? Not as if there were going to captain Aguero or anything!

Unfair on those who had their teams picked and set out already and done well GW 1.

Just having a look at the Arsenal squad and guessing who'll start on Saturday and it doesn't look too promising.

    Gone; Fabregas, Vela, Eboue, Clichy.
    Suspended; Gervinho, Song, Nasri
    Injured; Gibbs, Wilshere, Diaby
    Doubtful; Rosicky, Traore, Djurou

    They're fooked.

    I'm guessing...

    Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Jenkinson
    Walcott, Ramsey, Frimpong, Arshavin
    RVP

And who, Chamakh or half fit Rosicky?

Possibly supporting RVP, could be. But pigs will fly before Wenger plays 4-4-2. It could even be RVP playing in the hole behind Chamakh if they're really desperate.

It'll never be 4-4-1 and I doubt RVP will be anything but the furthest forward.

Chamakh was crap against Udinese I'd rather Rosicky in a supporting role. I think he'll play.

Djourou should be okay too but you never know with Arsenal's luck.

      Rosicky I think.

      Szczesny
      Jenkinson Koscielny Vermaelen Sagna
      Rosicky Frimpong
      Walcott Ramsey Arshavin
      RVP

That's still a good team. But either we've got to hope Walcott pegs back Enrique and Rosicky, Jenkinson and Koscielny have a stormer or I need to redraft my team to include Suarez.

Hold on... Wenger's a genius: he's waiting to see where the inevitably injury crisis strikes before he works out where best to spend our millions! Everywhere!

Bos is only short term, after the next two fixtures, he'll be gone for Senderos or something.

Yaya kinda convinced me..a lot at the stats will show you

Simpson and Brown rotate well, so them playing at home will increase their chances of a clean sheet

I like it on the whole. Not a huge fan of Walcott just yet. Arsenal need time, and GW 4 seems a great time to get him in when hopefully we'll get a better indication of his position in the team and maybe some more midfield options to boost Arsenal's attacking output on the whole.

Concern with this team is with expensive midfield options.

You might struggle to get Nani or Silva or VdV in.

Yeah thinking about Warnock alright. Chose Dunne for his set piece threat, hoping for what we saw with Ridgewell, Johnson and Dann.

It's a fairly conservative team in that im going for tried & trusted. No Man C would probably worry me as much as no Man U but it's impossible to squeeze more than 3 or 4 premium players so i'm banking on Chelsea. Suarez looks the best value of the lot and Cahill has impressive fixtures, particularly GW5 when United and Pool play Chelsea and Spurs while City have Fulham away, so he could be a captain option then.

-i dont rate lamps for 12M
-bosingwa isn't nailed on with ivanovic returning
-instead of schwarzer/dunne, how bout given/senderos? its cheaper and given will get more save points.

Thought about but don't like it. Given doesn't go well with Vorm and Senderos will be injured before September is finished.

Sinclair is good and has a good couple of weeks but prob him to Brunt from GW4

Vorm is a good goalie and if he rotates well is a good goalie to have at home as Swansea dont let in too many at Home

Graham is one of the few 5.0, strikers that will play every game and is the first pick of the forwards for his team

depends how tight you are for cash

I have 3 Swansea at the minute myself
