That looks good to me. Can see the reasoning behind your selections. I'd like a better fifth midfielder than Lucas..but it looks fine overall. Not sure about Downing carrying on in the wake of their fixtures upcoming either.

Same. Hard to get rid of him but Utd, Southampton and Liverpool have been decent defensively. Can't see him doing THAT well. Who knows though...

Opting for ADM. If he fails Silva's a great replacement with the fixtures.

I have Silva now but can see his output lessened with Kun back and no Yaya so willing to sell for a Caz/ADM gamble. I like Downing this GW at least (cost me £6m) but he could become Puncheon?

Downing to Puncheon is a great move for me Baps, worked this week. Just need to monitor and move on when fixtures get tougher for Palace

I watched west ham against Hull - pretty even first half, Downing was the difference in the second when played at the tip of the diamond. If he had a poor game and may have got rid as agree he isn't as good against the very top teams and fixtures are tough - got him for 5.8M - think he will be sub a bit, although playing him at L'pool and home to man u.

Seems to be a consensus on here regards Downing but he has been/ is tremendous value.
Could be one of those WC decisions that come back to bite.

Might as well do Lucas>Marney with that 0.1M
If you can sell Hamer for 4.1M I would. I think he'll lose his place soon.
      Looks good otherwise.

Though is Marney really worth the .1 over Lucas?? They probably will never play as I'd put a 4th defender above them.

You have the same front seven as me, but other than Baird our back seven are totally different - my defence is also Chelsea, Arsenal, S'ton, WBA, but I have Man U (Jones) and then Foster and Guzan as GK back up.

Both teams strong and I think you are good to go.

TIV is 106 which went down a bit after WC yesterday (think it was 106.7), - have Bellerin for Arsenal who is only 4.4. Costa looked back to his best against Newcastle - didn't see the game against Swansea but in the highlights he looked superb. Costa will be my VC after Sanchez this week

might still do that as Guzan doesn't play until week 30! Might get rid of Guzan and then upgrade Lucas to ward-prowse and once Mahrez comes back get him in for ward-prowse who may lose game time when Mane comes back.

Nice side ILB, I'd take out Lucas in a heart beat. For the likely Gw27 blank (this is assuming you don't have your second WC), you'll need some good bench cover, Lucas won't cut it I'm afraid.

Downing is a poor option for me here mate, (liv, MUN, sou, tot, CRY, CHE, ars) that's their horrible run starting next GW. Not sure, I'd be too keen to have any Hammer on my side for the immediate future. Especially with Puncheon countering those fixtures with (EVE, lei, NEW, ARS, whu, sou, QPR), Puncheon and even a stoke milf will outscore Downing with ease in these come GW's IMO (not to mention Chadli soon and possibly Siggy when Ki's back)

I like your Arsenal mid double up here, it's what I did this GW, and it's a solid option with pens in his locker and these upcoming fixtures. Great midfield with other 2, nuff said on that duo.

Very nice front three and I like your backline a lot as well. The downgrade of Downing would give you some great money ITB in case a Kane hits a dry streak, which is a great plan B for a player of his calibre and price point.

Wow great reply so thanks for that! You seem very certain on Downing's potential and I do like Puncheon over the next two at least. I also agree that Lucas has to be upgraded... No second WC but Walsh's post below on the matter is food for thought. Who is a decent 5th mid however that doesn't cost much??

Might have a Gayle or Bojan punt this GW and get Costa in for 24 too. Good?

        1. Zasa
          • 11 Years

Punch is your man here ILB, he's a great goal threat and hard to beat his price right now.
Yes, I'm certain Fat Sam and co will remain elusive for the fight to the top. Can see them winning 2 or three at most of those 7, but all those sides will be tight in the back I just can't see too many goals from them and less so Downing taking the run of the litter.

Bojan looks like a great punt for this GW mate, I say go for it. Costa in for 24? I'm not sure about that, logical to leave him out for the City match, but risky in the sense that he can score when he wants and a big game like this is ripe for a Costa 6 pointer. High risk/high reward move if Bojan scores again and Costa blanks, could leave you in a great position.

          Your call mate

Pantilimon is a beast. Save points consistently and he can even get bonus points from a cleansheet! Also liking Clyne/Bertrand over Forster. Great BAP potential + possible goals or assists. Should be worth the extra 0.7M in the end.

Chambers - Filipe Luis - Clyne - Bertrand - Hutton

    Eriksen - Downing - Hazard - Lampard - Alexis

    Giroud - Kane - Costa

Thinking of doing this on my WC:

    Chambers > Bellerin,
    Hutton > Wisdom,
    Adrian > Foster,
    Lampard > Larsson.

  10. The role of Puncheon
    Walsh
    • 12 Years
    10 years, 11 months ago

Just a little post regarding Puncheon and his prospects moving forward......

Pardew lined up Palace in a 442 away with Sanogo and Gayle up top and we got thoroughly battered in the beginning of the game going down 0-2 very quickly. He recognized the failings of this and made an in game tactical shift to a 4231 with Sanogo up top...Gayle on the left, Puncheon in the hole, and Zaha on the right.

Puncheon was completely invisible in the beginning of the game when he was playing out wide and was marginalized entirely. Once he was moved into a more free role in the center behind Sanogo he really started to influence the game. It was some of the best football he'd played all season long. He has been enigmatic when playing on the wing under Warnock in the same 4231 formation, but when he plays centrally he has the ability to be a very good FPL pick.

Warnock never really gave Puncheon a run playing centrally but instead yo-yo'd him in and out of the team on the wing along with Bolasie and Zaha. If Pardew settles on a 4231 with Puncheon in the hole all the time....then I have no doubt that he will be worth his weight in gold from an FPL perspective.

However, I am skeptical this will come to pass. I can see him continuing to persist with this 442 formation that could be better off when Jedinak returns to further fortify the middle. Chamakh is a real fly in the ointment as he is a theoretical threat to Puncheon's place in the hole and it remains to be seen how Pardew will fit him into the team. Zaha is capable of playing centrally and could threaten Puncheon's spot there. When Bolasie returns, he will be another winger in contention so it is likely one of him, Zaha, or Puncheon will miss out entirely depending on where he decides to implement Gayle.

In short, I think Puncheon can really thrive in a no. 10 role but if he is moved out wide he will be an iffy FPL pick as he will have purple patches here and there but not be in the middle of enough to be a consistent choice.

    1. Lallana_

I agree. Puncheon for his price would be amazing if he continuously played in the hole. Look at Ward-Prowse. Played the hole lately and has so many assists! Unfortunately I don't have assurance in smaller midfielders right now and I don't rate Puncheon highly. Some of the bigger midfielders have great fixtures at the moment. Hard to ignore.

      1. Walsh
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 11 months ago

I actually do quite rate Puncheon if he is implemented properly. He is a very good passer of the ball with good awareness and has a very accurate shot from distance. When he is enjoying his football he has the ability to win games.

          • 11 Years

Yeah he's one of those players who hits form for a while then dips out. I remember last season he had his moments then faded. I like a bit of consistency rather than a punt.

Cheers, Ryan. Gayle is a tricky one. I could see him playing off of Sanogo's shoulder in a 442 at home but then being benched entirely on the road if we opt for a 4231. Personally I have not seen enough of Gayle as a winger to make a determination but he was excellent in that role against Burnley. He was continually cutting into the middle off his right foot and handled himself well. Bolasie has one goal all season...he is rubbish to me and I loathe watching him. That said, I'm not sure he will be dropped as he "creates" so much.

No he can't play as a CM in any capacity whatsoever. He is strictly a pacey winger with no end product.

Austin , Silva , Sessegnon have just become :

    Giroud, ADM, Ward Prows

What do you reckon on this? Plan to monitor ADM can always swap silva back in. Nervous on austin as had him from day 1 but think Giroud could do a wreck in coming weeks. - Ward Prows will hardly ever play for me as other midfield are Sterling, Sanchez, Hazard, ADM

33 is the safety score before hits.
Might drop to 32 or 31 depending on hits.

Same. Downing my only shining light. Never had a hope of captaining the right player, Downing was a step to far despite knowing deep down he was a dark horse for the captaincy.

Yup, I know your feels man, Sterling was the only one who managed something for me.
Bad luck FG, we should be thankful this was a low scoring GW for most, less room for error compared to the Gw 8's

To think that I almost sold him for AdM 8O, thank god the DZ talked me out of it.

this....cant understand why i see him in so many WC. he is cheap enough that we can always get him. if he turns into fools gold, it will be a wasted pick with scores of 2,2,5,2 then it will cost you 4pts to get rid.

Yeah, not wrong. However, on a WC - you could ride out his potential price rises... then move him on, if you didn't want to hold on to him?
Quite a nice fixture next up for Elia & Soton too, though - home to Swansea...I've seen worse short-term punts...

Evening. If you had told me at the beginning of the gameweek that I would have six of my attackers blank, including a 1 pter from Aguero as captain, and that Baines would have a penalty chance taken away from him, I guess I gladly would have accepted the small drop. Got to take the long view.

Yep, they almost deserve the opportunity to gloat after all the anti-Costa propaganda. I'll still maintain its neither right nor wrong to have Costa in a team and I don't believe anyone should gloat about such things anyway when there is a fair debate on both sides.

Yeah, I know what you're saying here mate. He was a great captain choice, as I now many veterans highlighted his brace vs a strong Swansea side early on in the season.

could lose his starting place, especially when mane comes back - could then swap him for Mahrez who gets forward and was playing well prior to African Cup and likely to go straight back into the Leicester team - at least that is what I am likely to do.

Giroud and Bony might be good options. I think Sturridge will shake things up a bit when he returns too. Its all just a matter of a few GW's till things change a bit in the premium forward category. Giroud is doing it now too.
