In a season where a number of budget forwards have more than held their own with premium-priced alternatives, QPR’s Charlie Austin has arguably been the pick of the bunch. Still kindly priced at 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he sits second amongst strikers on 109 points, sandwiched in between big-hitting pair Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero on the back of 13 goals and a trio of assists in just 20 top-flight appearances.

Over the last four Gameweeks, however, Austin’s Fantasy returns have afforded his owners cause for concern. The R’s top scorer has struck just once from Gameweek 19 onwards – compared to five strikes in his previous four appearances – and with plenty of similarly priced options jostling for our attentions, we delve into the data to assess Austin’s recent displays, comparing them to both his previous performances and fellow forwards alike.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

And then, of course, there was Phil Jones, charging about with all the creativity of a side of beef let off its hook in the freezer, charging about like a farmer’s lad who has discreetly slid an egg into the back pocket of his corduroy trousers for a snack later on, only for mother duck to catch him in the act, chasing him around the barnyard, quacking and pecking at his backside with her beak.

Apparently a former Arsenal player ensured that Szczesny would never play again for the Gunners and from that moment Ospina became the chosen.

So, if that´s true and Ospina is 4.8, it makes him a good punt for GK, right??

Definitely. Oscar has only missed four games this season..if you had a fifth mid who only got two points for each of those four games he missed as his deputy then that FPL spot would have yielded nearly as much as Cesc...and a lot cheaper.

thanks nuttman. my current WC team is pretty template:

        forster (myhill)
        clyne, jones, koscielny (baird, wollscheld)
        hazard, sterling, sanchez, elia (boyd)

Think it's solid, Sterling could be one of the hot mids, Oscar or Cazorla.
I don't hate the idea of finding a differential instead of Kane.

I think the key is to work out what you want from the season, my aims are win my ML and top 100k to push on next season, so I keep an eye on the top 100k ownership and my ML in depth. Differentials are then based off of these, like Oscar and Cazorla are owned by 0 of the top 10 of my league, Di Maria is owned by 4 but only 1 of those are imminently near me so not choosing him till he hits form is a safe thing to do.

          1. Francescoli

yeah good point. hard to say what the wash up will be after the january WC. but i'm guessing the top guys in my ML will have hazard, sanchez, aguero, costa. looking for something that might bump me ahead of them. that's why i'm considering doing away with sanchez and kane to get a jump on the others. on the otherhand, i always tend to implode in the second half of the season because i take too many risks....

I don't think you can go without Sanchez, his work rate is top notch and his fitness is unbelievable at the moment (touch wood).

The way I look at your side the 3rd Defender, 3rd and 4th mid and 3rd Striker are all places were you can get differential because there is no consensus must have in that position.

              Forster
              Clyne, Kos, X
              Sanchez, Hazard, X, X
              Aguero, X, D.Costa

              + Bench as it is.

as long as the X's have a good mixture of form and fixtures you should generally get a good points haul most weeks. Have a look at your mini league, work out who owns what of you top 10 and the differentials will reveal themselves to you 🙂

How nailed on is Caz over the next few GWs?
Doubt Wenger can keep Ozil on the bench for too long, now that he's back from injury.
Arsenal have at least 5 quality players to fight for 3 spots behind the striker.
If we agree Sanchez is nailed, then Cazorla, Ozil, Ox, Walcott to fit the remaining 2 places.
    There will defo be rotation.

      The 'ol Costa dilemma essentially.
Though you have to put it in context as to who else you would be losing/gaining.

Both are great... I'd prefer Oscar to Fabregas in A, but B still clinches it as that's my front 8 if I do ADM > Cazorla!

Team A doesn't really have a benching option. Not one you'd feel happy with, anyway.

Yeah true that on the benching issue. I've been struggling with that the last 2 GW's and can't say I like the stress.
Guess I just don't really want to sell Downing 😉

Yes, I think we'll stick with Cazorla, but I haven't liked how often the role changes. Both Ozil and Alexis were given pens when they arrived and wasted them. Giroud hasn't missed any yet but with Cazorla scoring his last couple I reckon Wenger will stick with him.

I am worried about wasting money up top by getting Falcao as my third striker when Kane, Gayle etc may be just as effective. This means my midfield is weaker also

Someone wrecked my team with WC last week and got me the biggest red arrow of the season. Now I have to start digging out of the hole.

    Forster
    Terry, Gardos, PVA
    ADM Chadli Hazard Sanchez
    Aguero Kane Austin
Bench: Wisdom, Cameron, Boyd, Gilks. 3.8 ITB. 1FT

    Step 1 to fixing is:
    A) Austin -> Giroud
    B) Chadli -> Cazorla
    C) Fix defense (e.g. Cameron/Gardos out)
    D) Save FT?!?
