With Gameweek 25 just around the corner, our look at the injuries sustained over the weekend brings a handful of concerns for Roberto Martinez ahead of the trip to Chelsea. Charlie Austin will miss QPR’s crucial encounter at Sunderland, while Ronald Koeman allays fears over the head knock that forced off young Matt Targett early on last weekend.

Burnley
Manager Sean Dyche said it was too early to offer a diagnosis on the knee injury that forced Dean Marney off at half-time in the 2-2 draw against West Brom, according to the club’s official website.

Chelsea
Cesc Fabregas remained sidelined with a hamstring problem for the Blues’ 2-1 win over Villa. Reports on Friday confirmed the Spaniard had been passed fit during Jose Mourinho’s press conference but he failed to make the trip to the midlands, with doubts remaining over his midweek availability at home to Everton.

Crystal Palace
Scott Dann was replaced at half-time following a clash of heads with Leicester’s Wes Morgan in the 1-0 win at the King Power. Alan Pardew doesn’t believe the defender suffered concussion from the incident.

“Scott Dann has a large golf-ball-sized lump on his head from a clash with Morgan. He wasn’t quite right at half time. I don’t think he was concussed, but he felt a little bit uncomfortable.â€

Everton
Leighton Baines will be assessed ahead of the game against Chelsea on Wednesday after failing a fitness test on a knee injury before the Merseyside derby. Aiden McGeady looks set to miss out against the Blues with a similar complaint, revealed Roberto Martinez.

“As you can imagine, Leighton did not want to miss the game for anything and we tried everything to get him fit. But the knee wouldn’t settle and we had a fitness test this morning which showed he wasn’t 100 per cent to play. I don’t know about Wednesday [against Chelsea]. I don’t think it is a long-term problem and I think he could be available – if the game was a week away, I would definitely feel that he would be ready..Aiden had a knock in training and has a bruised bone in the knee. I think he will be a little bit longer than Wednesday, even though it is not a serious problem.â€

The Toffees boss revealed Muhamed Besic and Steven Naismith will also need assessing after picking up knocks in the 0-0 draw at Goodison Park.

“Steven Naismith had a really nasty fall and he twisted his neck. The doctor was concerned and we were going to do the substitution but the doctor felt he could carry on until half-time and then we could reassess. Naisy didn’t want to come off and then also Mo Besic was carrying a little bit of a niggle, James McCarthy was coming back from a long-term injury, it was the first time Bryan Oviedo had started for a while and Gareth Barry was on nine bookings – so I had to make sure I wasn’t using a substitution cheaply.”

Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers revealed midfielder Lucas Leiva was substituted after 16 minutes of the Merseyside derby with a recurrence of a groin injury which ruled him out of the FA Cup tie at Bolton last Wednesday.

“We’ll just have to assess it. He had a slight problem with his adductor – that’s why he missed the last game [at Bolton]. He felt it again there, so we’ll see what the scan says on that.â€

QPR
Charlie Austin will miss Tuesday’s trip to Sunderland after suffering heavy bruising to his right foot. But Rangers’ top goalscorer should be available for their Gameweek 26 clash against Hull at Loftus Road. The news on Richard Dunne isn’t so good, though; the veteran is ruled out for up to three months after sustaining a medial cruciate ligament injury, whilst fellow defender Nedum Onouha faces three-to-four weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Southampton
Replacing the suspended Ryan Bertrand in the starting XI, Matt Targett lasted just 25 minutes before suffering a head injury following an aerial collision with QPR’s Matt Phillips. Ronald Koeman is confident the injury isn’t too serious:

“The update with Matt is that everything is under control now. There’s no other problems. He will have a headache but nothing more and that’s good news.

Stoke
Stephen Ireland and Marc Wilson both limped off injured during the 1-1 draw at St James’ Park, reports in the local press have confirmed.

West Brom
Victor Anichebe was forced off with a groin injury in the Baggies 2-2 draw against Burnley. After the match, Tony Pulis explained why Saido Berahino was named amongst the subs and gave an update on Anichebe’s situation.

“We have three big games so were looking after Saido a bit. Victor has been in and done well but he felt his groin before the game but the big fella waned to play and start the game. You could see after 15 minutes that he was struggling. â€

Repost from a few hours ago to different audience.

    Its a dull one.

    Foster/Myhill
    Terry/ Trippier/ Waslik (LEI)/ Hutton/ PVA
    ADM/ Hazard/ Boyd/ Sanchez/Silva
    Aguero/Kane/ Giroud

    1ft 0.2 ITB

    A. Trippier to to Bellerin (can see the line up first, leaves around 0.5 to drop wasilk later for LEI blank)
B Punt on Tripper to Aldewer
    C. Save and later do Tripper to Alderw
    D Just Save
    E Something else

Aware this is a pretty dull choice. Thanks.

I really don't think you can go for a predictive analysis based on stats for a player like Aguero .. He hasn't been at his best in the recent past but his shooting hasn't been bad . He can easily convert those 2 or 3 opportunities to score that he is bound to get every game

"If you have held this long..."

What, one GW? Bertrand is banned till 28th February and will continue to fall in value in that time. There are only 14 games left in the season and Bertrand will miss the first two of them. Dumping him is only sensible.

    2 FT, 0.4m.

    Foster
    Terry, Bellerin, PVA (Fonte, Hutton)
    Sanchez, Hazard, ADM, Silva, Sterling
    Aguero, Kane (Zamora)

Fonte first sub so I have a headache as it is. Will wait for the Arsenal line up but as I have a luxury transfer I was thinking ADM/Silva/Sterling > Ozil or Wally if he starts?

Hard to sell ADM despite his form with the Burnley fixture. Don't mind selling Silva as with the 2 FT's I can get Yaya next week. Maybe Sterling can go? Any opinions?

I am not. Arsenal lose the ball without Welbeck.

Almost no-one on this forum understands this, but Welbeck ensure continuity of attack, and therefore of pressure.

No but I've been following him since he was 16. Only reason why I'm here.

When he got hurt at Barca, they told 10-12 weeks and after less than a month he started doing backflips in front of the medical staff to prove he was ok to play. During the week, it was rumored he started climbing walls. Just an example of his desire thats all.

Think Walsh or Davies lamented that Kun would probably take a long long long time to get to the form he was in before the injury.

Seems to be the case. Mentally he was broken as well when he got the injury - evidence by his tears. His poor form now is definitely a mental situation as well as a team issue.

Will Falcao start and are they really playing well? Bit knee-jerk imo, injury will have some effect on him and with so many midfielders available, its highly unlikely that he will play around 60mins.

Cazorla showed that Arsenal in good form is not only Alexis. With Alexis in form they were 6th and now looking to go for top4 spots the points will spread for sure 🙂 With three or four other players in form (Caz, Ozil, Wallcott, Giroud) Alexis is not such a must have anymore .. what is must have is 2 Arsenal players upfront .. I am currently with Ozil, Giroud and I feel confident. Also my 5th midfielder is Mane and with Sanchez it would be 4.5M midfielder and now I can go Rose/Moreno over Hutton 🙂

    Judging from the pages...

    1) Wisdom was dropped as he's kack. But since they conceded 2 goals, opinion is that he was rested and will return to starting.

    2) Arsenal - Wenger set to rest perhaps his 2 most reliable attackers at the moment in Cazorla, Giroud, to give Welbs and Walcott run outs.

    Correct?

    Aguero Ings Kane

Sanchez for ADM. If no Sanchez, Ozil for ADM. Fingers crossed Wisdom starts.

Is three Arsenal too much? I am thinking of bringing Giroud in for Ings but already have Sanchez and Cazorla.

Could work out well this week, if they all start.

I wouldn't bring Giroud in if you have those two already [lineups depending]. Kane/Defoe is a better bet.

I already have Kan and two Sunderland (PvA and Panti) I think three ARS is better than three SUN. Don't you?

Not necessarily, it all depends on which 2/3 players of the teams you have.

The decision you have to make is...over the next 3/4 GW's who will score more points out of Defoe or Giroud? Then make your transfer accordingly

What to do with this lot?

    Panti
    Terry Bellerin Wisdom (Bertrand Wasilewski)
    Caz Haz Silva Walters (Boyd)
    Aguero Giroud Kane

    (1) Clyne for Wasilewski
    (2) PVA for Wasilewski
    (3) Clyne/PVA for Bellerin and Walters/Boyd for Sanchez (-4); Still leave me short on defense and take a hit to get Sanchez over Bellerin
    (4) Caz to Sanchez

      2) looks like a good upgrade. Would be risky to go without Sanchez if he's starting though.

Worth dropping Bellerin to PVA and being short in back and banking on Wisdom and bringing in Sanchez for Walters or Boyd for -4?

That'd be risky as you'd likely have 2 defenders if Wisdom doesn't play. If you look towards the GW27 blank you'll want to have as many playing players as possible... But the huge gap in quality between Walters and Sanchez might mean you're better off taking the risk...

      Wait for lineups:

      Sanchez Out = (2)
      Sanchez In = (3)

Take a punt on Ozil/Caz over ADM if either one is in the starting line-up. Or, Ings to Defoe and bench ADM.
