Akers makes his debut on our latest ScoutCast offering, joining us as our third wheel fresh off the back of the most miserable Gameweek points return imaginable. The Scout Picks were to blame apparently – a cunning excuse that I really should keep in reserve; it certainly seemed to keep Mark’s acid tongue at bay.

The new boy isn’t just on board to present his excuses; he’s here to introduce the launch of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup – another chance for the Fantasy Football Scout team to embarrass ourselves with an early exit.

Elsewhere things tick along as expected, with the “All Aboard” appraising the value of this week’s most tempting bandwagons, whilst examining the seemingly infectious condition of jerky knee when it comes to Mr Bale and Mr Carroll. The weekend preview finds Mark adopting a most uncomfortable position; sandwiched between two United fans before he’s forced to abandon the duty free and beach towels to make way for an overly generous selection of Fantasy Island Risks.

Grab these latest random rants right here and search out previous episodes via this link.

      Oh no....

I think we just needed to be a little bit patient instead of calling for Sousa's head. So much for stability!

I'm sure this has been asked before, but can someone clarify the transfer situation for me pls...

E.g. If I have 1 free transfer this week but don't make it, then next week i have 2 free transfer. Now, if next week i only make 1 of these 2 free transfers, will i still have 2 free transfers the 3rd week?

I think AJ is a very good shout for Fantasy Europa League - but I don't think he'll get many full league games, unless Milner or Silva get injured.

Does anyone have any idea when Fab will drop in price. I thought i understood the %'s but am not sure now is it cos he is red flagged. I want to swap Gerrard to Fabs as early as possible does this make sense or should Iwait till end of International break.

ummm... tough call... if you aren't going to swap for this weekend, then there is no point doing the swap at all as fabs will be good from after the international week anyway...

He's slowly making progress to a fall, although ideally he'd be doing it much faster....

I'd wait until the very last minute for the Gerrard > Fabs transfer. Gerrard's NTI should be +ve next week, and assuming Fabregas doesn't play vs Chelsea, his NTI will be -ve for most of the week.

You can track it all at http://fantasytools.co.uk/ they have him at 78% of the way to a fall.

Points hits are the work of the devil.

I've come to the conclusion that unless you are (c) a player that you are bringing in on a hit or its a DGW, then they are a def no no!!!

    Anyone disagree??

I haven't taken one this season, and it might be a while before I do the way I'm going... but they can be very profitable. You just have to know what you're doing, and understand the added risk.

Well, it's not as good as the previous one and will probably not make this year's top 20 for me.

I genuinely believe that, in general, roughly, over the course of a season, there is an optimum level of points hits, andits not zero.

Last season I started off playing very carefully, and whilst I did OK, my team value was pants (yes it does matter) and it wasn't as much, you know, fun. I think that hits are fine, as long as you're progressing your team and not just knee-jerking and vascilating.

I'm looking to average at least 1.5 transers per week over the first half of the season, and am perfectly happy to take consecutive hits over the last couple of weeks. I'm also keeping track of the points profit / loss the following week to see how profitable transfers really are (a 4 pt improvement the next week IS NOT required).

"there is an optimum level of points hits, andits not zero"

That hits the nail right on the head. Over the short history of this game the winners and a vast percentage of the top 100 seem to have taken point hits, but never to excess. I think last season may have been different as point hits were fundamental to success with all of the double GWs - bt normally those at the top will take a small amount (8-20). I firmly believe that those who take point hits and get it right half the time (i.e. make at least their 4 pts back on the trade) should come out on top of those who religiously don't take a hit.

I totally agree with tosey, if its planned and your either badly need to improve your team or got some key players you want in then it can pay off.

I think you be a fool to totally ignore it and say you wont do any all season, you need to have a good start to manage that.

My first post here ppl. Great site, love to read your comments.

    1. Wondering who to choose from P. Jones and Williamson in defence (if Richards does not start)

    2. With Rovers away to Stoke and Bolton away to WestBrom, is Robinson or Jaaskelainen the best choice?

    3. Why all the fuss about N'zogbia? With how Wigan have been playing, I don't really see the big temptation.

    4. If someone would like to comment on my team, and the possiblility of -4'ing for a transfer or keeping it as it is, here you go:

    Robinson - Jaaskelainen

    Dann - M.Richards - G. Johnson - P. Jones - Williamson

    Nani - Bale - Arshavin - Malouda - Larsson

    Berbs - Tevez - Dembele

    1. Jones
    2. Jaask if you play Jones.
    3. He gets a lot of points when he plays which hasn't been much until now, so can't be blamed wor Wigans season so far. He is great value after price reductions.
    4. Lose Richards for Boateng but not for a hit.
