Queens Park Rangers won’t have to venture beyond the capital in their imminent double Gameweek, as they host north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal within the space of four days. While the R’s languish in the lower echelons of the Premier League table – sitting outside the relegation berths by virtue of a superior goal difference – their winning record at Loftus Road renders them far from a Fantasy write-off.

The Prospects

The Hoops’ first test of the week sees them lock horns with an Arsenal side that triumphed 2-1 in the reverse fixture. With only one win in their last nine outings and a single victory in their previous five home ties, QPR will doubtless be underdogs in this local derby.

That being said, isolating QPR’s record under new boss Chris Ramsey frames them in a different light. The 52-year-old’s debut match in charge as caretaker manager would have resulted in a well-earned point, save for a last-gasp winner from Southampton’s Sadio Mane. Then in the two road ties that followed, Ramsey commandeered QPR to their first away win of the campaign – a 2-0 victory over Sunderland – and a narrow 2-1 defeat to Hull City.

The Gunners’ biggest strength lies in their plethora of creative midfielders and goalscoring forwards – Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud have tallied three and four goals respectively in their last six, while Mesut Ozil has delivered attacking returns in four of the previous five Gameweeks. Nonetheless, Arsenal’s vulnerability at the back was exposed by Monaco in the Champions League and is also evident in their paucity of clean sheets (seven) this term, offering encouragement to QPR’s attack-minded players.

QPR welcome Spurs to White City in the second match-up of their double, pitting Ramsey against the club that employed him for over a decade. Tottenham are a match for anyone on their day – as league leaders Chelsea will attest to – but inconsistency is a problem for Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit. For every head-turning win over one of the big boys (Chelsea, Arsenal), there’s been a humbling defeat to a team lower down the league ladder (West Brom, Crystal Palace). Moreover, as much as the likes of Harry Kane – who’s netted 12 times in his previous 11 outings – poses a real threat to QPR’s rearguard, the hosts will fancy Charlie Austin to cause trouble, too, given that only Leicester City (10) have conceded more big chances than the Lilywhites in their past four matches.

The Likely Lads

As the highest scoring Fantasy Premier League player on QPR’s roster by a clear 34 points this campaign, Charlie Austin (6.3) inevitably stands out as the prime candidate for R’s coverage in the double Gameweek. The 25-year-old hitman has registered six goals in his last nine appearances, equalling the much-vaunted Kane’s tally of 14 for the season, and looks nailed-on for Gameweek 28.

Having started QPR’s last three matches, Matthew Phillips (4.6) is shaping up to be a permanent fixture under Ramsey’s tenure. The Scotland international’s odds of retaining his right wing berth have certainly been enhanced by three assists in the past two Gameweeks. Furthermore, only Chelsea livewire Eden Hazard (11) has fashioned more chances for his teammates than Phillips (10) in the previous three Gameweeks.

Of the five clean sheets that Robert Green (4.5) has recorded this season, four of them have arrived at Loftus Road. Granted, Tottenham and Arsenal have only failed to score in six matches between them to date, yet their ability to fashion a wealth of chances should only strengthen the 35-year-old shot-stoppers’ potential to accrue save points – nine of Green’s last 10 outings have harvested one extra point from saves.

The Cheeky Punt

One goal and six attempts in QPR’s last two matches illustrates Bobby Zamora’s effort to impress his new boss. With many Fantasy enthusiasts rejigging their line-ups in an attempt to accommodate both Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero after the double Gameweek, the 4.1-priced forward could serve as a decent stop gap for those looking to free up cash.

Considering QPR have conceded more goals (45) than any other Premier League outfit this campaign, investing in their defence might seem like a questionable strategy, with Green’s save points looking the safest option. However, priced at 3.9, Suk-Young Yun represents a small outlay for a left-back that’s started the London club’s last two fixtures. On the off-chance of a clean sheet, Yun might tempt some managers with space for a budget defender in their ranks.

At this point of the season, what kind of differentials are needed to climb into the top 50k and top 10k? Would you consider players with 15-20% ownership like Austin,Cazorla,ADM differentials or only players under 10% ownership? Can these players help you climb in rank or do you need players with less ownership like Ozil?

I'd definitely check the stats of the ownership within the areas you're trying to break through.

Looking at overall ownership is different to top 10k ownership for example.

You need players with less ownership but at the same time need them to outscore the normal players!

It's often defenders who can get you up the rankings, most of the good attacking options don't stay differentials for long.

Something like Baines (when fit), Moreno, Schlupp could do well. Going without someone like Kane, Aguero or Hazard could kill you if they hit massive scores, but going without Terry or Clyne shouldn't be too bad.

I'd just try and pick the best team possible. Be smart about it. Pick the players with the best upcoming fixtures that may have scored poorly in recent weeks, but only due to tough fixtures. Or players with good underlying stats whose numbers just haven't been converted into points yet.

Ultimately whatever team you pick, you'll have differentials. The top 50k teams don't all have the same players! Surprise, surprise! And any team you're up against, you'll always have a couple of players they don't and even one player can catch you up 10+ points in a single week.

The biggest mistake is to drop the obvious choices in an attempt to leap ahead. Instead you just fall behind even more usually.

Sanchez is a tough question. Decent fixtures. Can explode at any moment. Hefty price tag however. Whether you go for him or not it'll be a differential. A lot of teams will start to drop him and a lot will keep the faith. Unless you have a great replacement I'd stay for now.

I am considering Sanchez or cazorla to eriksen myself. Eriksen is a player with consistently high scores. He doesn't do it every week but over the course of a season he does get you the points.

What % of the top 50k would you say are casuals? Those who don't plan ahead, don't know about DGWs until just before it etc. Pretty low? This week could be a week to make up some ground.

I know that most are going to captain Kane anyway, but for those considering not doing it I wanted to bring you even more stats than are available here - http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/03/02/scout-notes-gameweek-27-sunday-3/?hc_page=4#hc_comment_9845584

It’s actually been interesting comparing the two as I assumed for the most part Aguero was performing above Kane despite his recent form.

These stats are all based over the last six matches:

    Mins per goal:

    Aguero – 167.3
    Kane – 81

    Final third touches:

    Aguero – 166
    Kane - 206

    Goal attempts:

    Aguero – 18
    Kane – 28

    Inside box:

    AGuero – 16
    Kane – 17

    Shot accuracy:

    Aguero – 38.9%
    Kane – 46.4%

Once again Kane is very close and ahead of Aguero for most goal related stats and is more involved in the final third. Considering he comes off so well in comparisons it’s hard to see past captaining the player with 2 games v 1. There’s no doubt that Aguero is the superior player in real life, his movement is fantastic for a centre forward but when it comes to FPL it doesn't really matter. Kane is performing as a £6.2m Aguero right now.

As always, make of these what you will and good luck with your choices!

P.S - Won't I look silly when Kane gets injured in the first match 😉

I honestly don't know, I might want Eriksen and/or Austin but will have to ditch ARS players. I hope tonight's live youtube shizzle clears my mind of doubt so I can see the true path.

Seems like a no brainer. I did that for a hit

I did exactly the same thing, plus Johnson > Sterling for -4. Was debating whether I wanted to take a hit, but looks like Johnson made my decision an easy one!

Prefer Vertonghen/Walker to make is super fantastic though.

Rose offers a cheap way into the Spurs defence, and while it has been a s bit shaky I think there are some potential CS around the corner. I like Rose as an attacking threat too

    G2G?
    Forster (Hamer)
Vertonghen - Terry - McShane (Wolly - Collo)
Eriksen - Hazard - Silva - Moses (Punch)
    Aguero - Kane - Giroud

So what does the Jedinak being charged by the FA mean for Puncheon? Will he move deeper into midfield or will Ledley take that spot?

The last thing any manager wants is Puncheon playing deep. Dont worry about it. Their defence will go to pot now though.

Just means that McArthur will start, plus Ledley if Mutch ruled out. Punch won't get shifted.

They still have Defoe. He's their danger-man. But I wouldn't bet against a 0-0 all the same...go for it if you need to save at the back.

People going with Eriksen - do you expect him to play both? I know Spurs were a little toothless without him when he was rested not so long ago but 3 games in a week seems a bit much. Ky presumption would be starts vs QPR but benched vs Swans, maybe 25 mins if needed?
