Queens Park Rangers won’t have to venture beyond the capital in their imminent double Gameweek, as they host north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal within the space of four days. While the R’s languish in the lower echelons of the Premier League table – sitting outside the relegation berths by virtue of a superior goal difference – their winning record at Loftus Road renders them far from a Fantasy write-off.

The Prospects

The Hoops’ first test of the week sees them lock horns with an Arsenal side that triumphed 2-1 in the reverse fixture. With only one win in their last nine outings and a single victory in their previous five home ties, QPR will doubtless be underdogs in this local derby.

That being said, isolating QPR’s record under new boss Chris Ramsey frames them in a different light. The 52-year-old’s debut match in charge as caretaker manager would have resulted in a well-earned point, save for a last-gasp winner from Southampton’s Sadio Mane. Then in the two road ties that followed, Ramsey commandeered QPR to their first away win of the campaign – a 2-0 victory over Sunderland – and a narrow 2-1 defeat to Hull City.

The Gunners’ biggest strength lies in their plethora of creative midfielders and goalscoring forwards – Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud have tallied three and four goals respectively in their last six, while Mesut Ozil has delivered attacking returns in four of the previous five Gameweeks. Nonetheless, Arsenal’s vulnerability at the back was exposed by Monaco in the Champions League and is also evident in their paucity of clean sheets (seven) this term, offering encouragement to QPR’s attack-minded players.

QPR welcome Spurs to White City in the second match-up of their double, pitting Ramsey against the club that employed him for over a decade. Tottenham are a match for anyone on their day – as league leaders Chelsea will attest to – but inconsistency is a problem for Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit. For every head-turning win over one of the big boys (Chelsea, Arsenal), there’s been a humbling defeat to a team lower down the league ladder (West Brom, Crystal Palace). Moreover, as much as the likes of Harry Kane – who’s netted 12 times in his previous 11 outings – poses a real threat to QPR’s rearguard, the hosts will fancy Charlie Austin to cause trouble, too, given that only Leicester City (10) have conceded more big chances than the Lilywhites in their past four matches.

The Likely Lads

As the highest scoring Fantasy Premier League player on QPR’s roster by a clear 34 points this campaign, Charlie Austin (6.3) inevitably stands out as the prime candidate for R’s coverage in the double Gameweek. The 25-year-old hitman has registered six goals in his last nine appearances, equalling the much-vaunted Kane’s tally of 14 for the season, and looks nailed-on for Gameweek 28.

Having started QPR’s last three matches, Matthew Phillips (4.6) is shaping up to be a permanent fixture under Ramsey’s tenure. The Scotland international’s odds of retaining his right wing berth have certainly been enhanced by three assists in the past two Gameweeks. Furthermore, only Chelsea livewire Eden Hazard (11) has fashioned more chances for his teammates than Phillips (10) in the previous three Gameweeks.

Of the five clean sheets that Robert Green (4.5) has recorded this season, four of them have arrived at Loftus Road. Granted, Tottenham and Arsenal have only failed to score in six matches between them to date, yet their ability to fashion a wealth of chances should only strengthen the 35-year-old shot-stoppers’ potential to accrue save points – nine of Green’s last 10 outings have harvested one extra point from saves.

The Cheeky Punt

One goal and six attempts in QPR’s last two matches illustrates Bobby Zamora’s effort to impress his new boss. With many Fantasy enthusiasts rejigging their line-ups in an attempt to accommodate both Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero after the double Gameweek, the 4.1-priced forward could serve as a decent stop gap for those looking to free up cash.

Considering QPR have conceded more goals (45) than any other Premier League outfit this campaign, investing in their defence might seem like a questionable strategy, with Green’s save points looking the safest option. However, priced at 3.9, Suk-Young Yun represents a small outlay for a left-back that’s started the London club’s last two fixtures. On the off-chance of a clean sheet, Yun might tempt some managers with space for a budget defender in their ranks.

I don't really know what common practice is in these cases, but should Sunderland have suspended AJ for being accused of something? Has not been proven or anything like that. So were they a little too hasty or do they possibly know that he is guilty?

I agree. It seems as though "innocent until proven guilty" is really just a myth.

Aye, I mean I know we're all joking on here etc. but I thought a club would stand by a player, especially if it is only at the accusation stage... Different story if he had been found guilty already/if the club knows something we don't.

That was kind of my thinking, but would be pretty bad form if he's found to be innocent. I'm fairly sure other accusations for things that are not acceptable in society (racism etc.) have not been met with suspension immediately. I might be wrong though.

Oh that's true, I don't think he should be playing or anything. But not playing a player because of "issues" and publicly suspending him are quite different I would have said.

              10 years, 9 months ago

Aye true. Unless they know something as you say, it probably should have been handled differently, albeit the same outcome of him not playing.

        • 15 Years
        10 years, 9 months ago

No not playing or anything but they don't have to suspend him based only on an accusation? It could all hypothetically be BS and instead of supporting their player they've immediately suspended him.

    4. SouthCoastSaint
      • 14 Years

He's done enough to generate bad publicity for the club. It's probably in his contract

All I mean is that it is just at an allegation stage. It is entirely different if he is proven guilty of course.

      • 15 Years

I've don't know either...maybe it's different if they've been named? It does make it look a bit like they think he's guilty (whether they do or not; and whether he is or not).

Hey, buddy. Here's the problem: You're thinking about notions of "due process". That only applies to the justice system. His club is a business. BIG business. They have a brand to protect and they want to avoid negative publicity, etc It's a player contract issue, plain and simple. Any "rights" you have are spelled out in your player contract.

It's bad form and certainly doesn't help AJ on a personal level, but the club can't take the risk of standing behind him and then having him get convicted. . . .

      As the say, it's not "show friends", it's "show business" . . . .

    7. sniborp
      • 15 Years
      10 years, 9 months ago

It's proper practice. Like if a doctor or teacher is under investigation, they are suspended pending the outcome. In most cases it's abuse of their position/incompetence so it's clearly not suitable for someone to continue in their current line of work. Football is usually different because these alleged incidents aren't 'in the course of your job', but 'bringing reputation into disrepute' is much more relevant and probably in their contracts.

We don't know the circumstances but I doubt anyone would be in the right mind to continue their job with this sort of accusation over their head anyway.

Never thought i'd be struggling to decide who to keep between Cazorla and Sanchez.. Not watched Arsenal of late.. Has Sanchez shown any sign of his form from when he was fpl gold? Keeping Caz at 2.5 cheaper and with penos is much more tempting

    1. Les Bleus
      • 14 Years

Against Everton, Sanchez looked the much more dangerous one. Caz was pretty much holding mid.

Disagree. He was box to box and created a couple of chances as well as missing a couple if chances.

Sanchez will prob out score him til the end of the season, but I think Cazorla will do enough to be better value given the price differential

Transfer out Defoe or Giroud for Kane?

Defoe has a good set of fixtures coming up, nailed on to start each match but obviously doesn't have many chances created for him. Far cheaper and more likely to fund a heavy hitting midfielder.

Giroud also has decent fixtures, will possibly be rested once or twice with other firepower vying for his position, tonnes of chances. Fairly highly priced but been delivering last few game weeks.

Giroud's returning pretty well right now so shouldn't be rested again, but you never know.

I agree, I like Defoe's fixtures. Only uncertainty now is whether he will be impacted by the absence of AJ.

I'd be torn here but everyone's going to say sell Defoe so I suppose you might as well

      No.

Di Maria - when Silva shoots, it's from close range, and lately, it's been going in. When Di Maria shoots, it's from miles out, and it goes nowhere without a deflection or stroke of luck. Silva also has a greater chance of assists, considering the comparative quality of the recipients of his passes. Oh, and fixtures.

Guess who I got in for his great run of fixtures in GW22. He scored 2,2,1,2,3,2 and is now suspended indefinitely 🙂
    ....that went well, then.

Oof. And there's the red flag. I captained him in GW23 for one of those 2pt hauls.

Ah well, I was keeping him unwillingingly, so at least it's an excuse to shift. Another -4 sadly, as Walcott had to go too 🙁

Chances of a Chelsea cleanie at West Ham?

Thinking of benching Ivan...goes against all common sense, I know, but just think a Wembley hangover is likely.

Not great - I expect West Ham to score. But I definitely wouldn't bench Ivanovic.

Over the last four/six matches, West Ham have conceded the most chances from their left hand side, and the most chances from set pieces. Add in Ivanovic's incredible hot streak of form, and Chelsea's momentum after their Cup win.

I just brought Ivan in, if that gives you any feedback. He is too attacking to bench, IMO, but perhaps you have 3 equally strong alternatives at defense...

Thanks. Great options, I think. Dawson, Clichy, Rose, PVA.

        Hazard. Silva, Cazorla.

Also have Walters, but would need to take a hit to fit in Eriksen

Which Xbox, 360 or that new one?

Borderlands, Borderlands 2 and Borderlands The Pre-Sequel.

      All are f**king brilliant 2 player co-op.

Never really got into Titanfall, not for me.

Destiny annoyed me so much. Had the potential to be one of the best games of all time but the story mode was waaaaaaaaaaay to short. Bungie then started selling extra story missions as part of expensive DLC, pathetic. Probably the best looking game I have ever played, mind.

            I don't need a co-op game, just a good game with multiplayer.
