Three players tumbled off the Suspension Tightrope in Gameweek 28’s midweek fixtures, having picked up their 10th yellows of the campaign. Alan Hutton, Gareth Barry and Lee Cattermole will sit out their side’s next two matches as a result.

Hutton will be sidelined for the Villains’ FA cup quarter-final clash against the Baggies this weekend and the Gameweek 29 trip to Sunderland. Barry misses Everton’s home tie against Newcastle and a visit to Loftus Road, while Cattermole sits in the stands as the Black Cats welcome Aston Villa to the Stadium of Light and travel to West Ham in their next two.

On April 12, the requisite number of cumulative yellows that warrants a ban will increase to 15. Until that date, players resting on nine yellows will have to time their tackles to perfection. Swansea’s Neil Taylor and Stoke’s Phil Bardsley were joined by Cesc Fabregas, Ciaran Clark and Seb Larsson in the precarious nine club this week. Fabregas’ 30.1% ownership will doubtless be wincing each time the Spanish playmaker attempts a challenge in Chelsea’s next four ties (SOU, hul, STO, qpr) before the cut-off date.

With regards to players currently serving suspensions, Joey Barton and Mile Jedinak sat out the first of their respective three and four-match bans for violent conduct. The QPR midfielder misses further encounters with Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace, while the Eagles captain won’t be available until Gameweek 32.

In terms of those back in contention, Glenn Murray returns for Palace after serving his one-match ban during their 1-0 defeat to Southampton. In addition, Nemanja Matic, Jack Colback and Morgan Amalfitano also fulfilled their obligations, with the former expected to be fit for the Blues’ next league encounter, despite picking up a minor injury during his Capital One Cup celebrations. Adam Johnson, meanwhile, has been suspended by Sunderland pending the results of a police investigation into off-field allegations.

Although not cautioned during the match, Jonny Evans and Papiss Cisse could face lengthy suspensions after appearing to spit at each other during Manchester United’s visit to St James’ Park. The FIFA rules stipulate that any player guilty of spitting at an opponent should sit out his club’s next six matches in all competitions. Reports in the local press suggest that Cisse could be facing a seven-match ban if found guilty, given that he has already been suspended for violent conduct earlier in the season.

Discussing the matter with the Newcastle website, Cisse has acknowledged his part in the incident as he awaits an announcement from the FA:

”I have apologies to make to a lot of people today. Firstly to my teammates and to our supporters, secondly to Jonny Evans, and thirdly to every football fan who saw the incident between myself and Jonny. I reacted to something I found very unpleasant. Sometimes it is hard not to react, particularly in the heat of the moment.”

Evans, however, released a statement on the United website vehemently denying the accusations, going on to say:

“Having woken up this morning I am shocked to have seen the media coverage from last night’s match. I would like to make it clear that I did not spit at Papiss Cisse. I was totally unaware of any spitting incident and had assumed that the issue at the time was with the challenge and his attempted retaliation to the tackle from the floor. During the game Papiss Cisse and I spoke about the incident and it is clear by my reaction in the television footage that I was totally surprised by any suggestion of spitting. It is not in my character or in my nature to spit at anybody nor is it something I have ever done or would ever do. It is certainly not something that I did last night.”

Seems like he wasn't destroyed if he's scoring for fun.

He was poor for Chelsea every time he played. Maybe just finds it easier as a big player at a smaller club.

Perhaps what Salah's form may be indicating is the fact that Serie A is of a lower quality in general...

is the BPL the best because Man U strikers can't score ?

Not sure where I said the BPL is the best, or anything about United strikers.

But I will say a number of great players from Serie A have struggled in the PL. Not all, of course, but I don't believe it to be quite the same standard as a whole as the PL.

Well I don't think you can rank the different european leagues that way. They all have their specificity and I'm really not sure a mid table british club would do a lot better in italy.

I think you can, to be entirely honest. And I'm not entirely sure on that either, depends on the team of course.

that is just not possible to verify, so could be a long debate. the only objective argument is british clubs do (usually) well at european level, but that concern the top teams, really. You shouldn't judge la liga based on Barca, Real or Atletico only.

As an avid viewer of La Liga and Bundesliga as well, I certainly don't judge based on only the top teams. It is one of the reasons I don't necessarily believe the PL is the best league in the world.

And it isn't to say I don't rate Serie A at all or anything like that, I just am not convinced Salah would be doing as well at Chelsea if he was playing.

Big clubs ruin players, no doubt, but Sanchez can't be mentioned to be honest because he developed wonderfully at Barcelona. Fabregas had other issues there. My point is more we see Salah scoring in Italy and immediately assume he could be doing the exact same in the PL, which isn't necessarily true.

So I left £4.8m in the bank with a plan to do Austin > Costa this week, would anyone consider anything different? I guess Clichy and Cazorla are the 2 other main problems in my squad

    Hazard Eriksen Silva Cazorla
    Aguero(c) Kane Austin

Won't give up, but next year I'm definitely going all Light Knight/ GB/ Wakey on it. Loads of hits and captain gambles. I enjoy it so much more when I'm not worried about ownership, price rises etc.
It's sort of a thrill to go against the grain on here too.
The reactions can be funny when you suggest something left field.

When I was ranked 1m in December last year and had nothing to play I did something similar to this. I found it a lot of fun captaining players like Soldado and Torres but I have to say I much prefer trying to break the top 1k.

I could have a decent payout in May it'll make me fancy doing a Stevie G and going again.

I can't see me not playing cash unless I had a total stinker of a year.

But I'd like to be a casual to play loose gamble a bit be hit heavy and play the value.

I should just do it might rank can get no worse.

Certainly. When I get married and have kids I don't think I'll manage. FPL is great when you have plenty of spare time but it can also be an unnecessary burden. Perhaps I'll be content to be a lurker/casual and spend 30mins a week on it but in an odd way, spending minimal time on it might make it less interesting and hasten the appeal of giving up entirely.

          This, so This.

I got so much more into FPL once the kids came and I lost my friends and freedom.

2am and 4am feeds became so much more exciting in the Deadzone of FFS and waiting for price changes. Just mindless amusement.

Nowadays I have 1 kid one side, one on my lap, Doc McStuffins on telly and FFS on my phone somewhere in between. Perfect !

With the current rules, probably not. But I guess sooner or later they will "improve" the game somehow that it will make it less appealing. that could be the time for me to give up.

Unfortunately I think yes. I'm the closest I've ever been. No specific reason, the excitement is just gone. Never thought it would happen. Maybe I take a break like LR did this year. Im scared though. Will I get withdrawal symptoms in December(the most exciting time of season for me) or will I just never ever come back. Either way, it's a scary thought.

After 8yrs of seeing it all, from Ferguson, a 4.5m defensive midfielder hoovering up bonus points, Zigic(c) DGW fails, fake team sheets being posted on here, posters being banned, the same posters being re instated...only to be banned again.

I experienced the down vote button being invented. Only to have it taken away. I even managed to sleep my way to a scoutlevel 2 badge.

The only thing I've never seen is a sub 4̶0̶0̶0̶ 1000 ranking.

I don't think it was ever meant to be.

I sort of did it this season, for a combination of reasons. After finishing my studies (where way too much of my time was spent on football/fpl), im now in a job that is taking up much of my fpl research time. I also got a bit bored of it I think, the excitement started to disappear with the feeling that everyone pretty much has the same team (exaggerating, I know). In the preseason (before I started my job), I spent quite a lot time on making my team, but it just never cliqued, I never liked my team, a new feeling. Usually come GW1 I was bloody excited about my team and the heights it would reach. Just careless now. This has of course led this season down the drain, with 15 different captains and a lot of hits taken. Its a bit fun every now and then when my punts deliver, but this all Haz, Alexis, Kun shite is not interesting in the long run.

I think what might keep me playing is playing a draft league next year, havent tried that and it looks a lof of fun.

Finishing 20th convinced me I could win it. In reality I had a ridiculously lucky season and am doing well if I finish inside the top 20K.

But even if I give up mid season, the excitement of when a new year launches and building a new team will always be there 😀

In the 20 year club too I remember playing shoot fantasy football when I was 12/13 and playing the ones in the newspapers and having to ring a premium rate number to make transfers!

Its UFPL that's got me interested this season. FPL is fairly boring.

Had a relatively poor week and feeling the need to make some changes.

    Pantilimon // Foster
    Kompany // Terry // Clyne // N.Taylor // Hutton
    Hazard // Cazorla // Eriksen // Walters // Boyd
    Aguero// Giroud // Kane

1 FT, £1.3m in the bank.

    Which of these is best:

    A) Kompany, Cazorla, Hutton -> Ivanovic, Bruce (bench fodder) and Ozil (-8)
    B) Kompany, Cazorla -> Alderweireld, Ozil (-4)
    C) Hold Kompany and just do Cazorla -> Ozil
    D) Something else?

Bit at a loss as to what to do so any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Too early to plan for blank/doubles?

WBA, LIV & MUN are favourites to progress.

MUN can't be in GW34 as CHE already have a double.

    GW34 doubles could be:

    LEI vs CHE
    CPL vs WBA
    HUL vs LIV

Who would you get from these sides?

    LEI - None
    CHE - Ivanovic/Terry, Hazard, Costa
    CPL - Puncheon
    WBA - Dawson, Berahino
    HUL - None
    LIV - Skrtel, Sterling/Coutinho, Sturridge

      Looking at dgws for
      Lei vs che
      Cpl vs WBA
      Hul vs liv
      Ars vs sun

      So dgw would be

      foster
      Pva terry Moreno
      Hazard Oscar Sanchez silva puncheon
      Aguero giroud

    Panti
    Bellerin/Clyne/Terry
    Hazard/Silva/Cazorla/Eriksen
    Giroud/Kane/Aguero

    (Rose/JWP/PVA)

Brought in Eriksen just for the DGW. So far thought Kane is enough TOT for me. Now however I am thinking of keeping Rose until at least GW33 (mun,LEI,bur,AVL), but Eriksen I feel needs to go. Budget defender + Giroud->Sturridge, or keep Giroud and get a Coutinho/Henderson?

Or keep FT... 0.8m ITB. Any thoughts more than welcome. Cheers
